Abstract

Post-pregnancy, women experience complex physiological changes, including decreased hormone levels, trauma to the pelvic muscles, and the risk of complications such as pelvic organ prolapse, urinary incontinence or sexual dysfunction. The process of uterine involution requires attention to prevent complications such as bleeding or infection. A comprehensive medical evaluation including examination of the reproductive organs and nutritional status of the mother is essential to ensure optimal recovery. On the other hand, psychological disorders such as postpartum depression (PPD) and anxiety are common in new mothers, affecting both maternal well-being and infant development. Hormonal fluctuations, social pressures and new responsibilities exacerbate these conditions. Lack of social support and cultural stigma compound the challenges mothers face. Psychotherapy-based interventions and integration of mental health services have proven effective in helping mothers overcome these psychological issues. Structural barriers, such as lack of access to health facilities and limited medical personnel, are obstacles to providing adequate post-pregnancy care. Community-based education programs and strengthened health services are needed to increase awareness and access. With a holistic approach that includes both physical and mental aspects, post-pregnancy recovery can be optimized, improving the overall quality of life for mothers and families.

Abstract

The postpartum period is a challenging transition period, with significant physical, psychological, and social changes for mothers. One common condition is baby blues, a mild mood disorder that usually appears in the first two weeks after giving birth. Around 70-80% of mothers experience baby blues symptoms such as anxiety, fatigue, and difficulty sleeping, which can disrupt the early relationship between mother and baby and slow recovery. Despite its high prevalence, this disorder is often considered normal and does not require intervention, whereas if not handled properly, the symptoms can develop into postpartum depression. Research shows that adequate emotional support from husbands and families can significantly reduce these symptoms. Unfortunately, many families lack understanding of postpartum psychological conditions, so they often provide unsupportive responses, which actually worsen the mother's condition. This study uses a descriptive qualitative approach to describe the experiences of mothers facing baby blues and the role of husband and family support in their recovery. The findings of this study emphasize the importance of education about postpartum maternal mental health and the need for changes in the social support system to be more sensitive and responsive to reduce the psychological impact on mothers and children

Abstract

This article presents a critical analysis of the role of academics as judges in the 2025 Cilacap Regency Regional Innovation Competition (LINDA), focusing on the health sector. The study details the judging mechanism, which took place in two stages: an administrative selection to ensure completeness and suitability of documents, and a presentation assessment that explored the innovations' substance, sustainability, and potential for replication. Field observations revealed a wide variety of proposed innovations, ranging from the use of information technology for health services, village health cadre empowerment programs, to cross-sector partnership models. These innovations have been shown to have a significant impact on service efficiency, increased access, and strengthened community participation in maintaining health. However, various challenges remain, including limited competent human resources, minimal sustainable funding, and suboptimal supporting information systems. This analysis places these innovations within the framework of national innovation policy and compares them with good practices from case studies such as PUSTAKA and Mobile JKN, which serve as references for measuring the relevance, scalability, and sustainability of innovations at the regional level. The jury's role is positioned not merely as an assessor, but also as a mentor, facilitator, and validator of science-based innovative solutions. The involvement of academics in this process is a form of community service that has a direct impact on improving the quality of public policy, while strengthening the culture of innovation within local government. The findings of this study confirm that the active involvement of the jury can provide valuable empirical input for formulating strategies for developing regional health innovations.

Abstract

Background: Childbirth is a critical physiological process experienced by women that requires optimal physical and psychological preparation. Inadequate preparation may contribute to prolonged labor and increased pain intensity. Prenatal exercise is recognized as a non-pharmacological approach to improve maternal readiness. A combination of pelvic floor muscle (PFM) exercise and abdominal exercise is considered beneficial for strengthening muscles involved in the labor process, potentially influencing both labor duration and pain perception. Therefore, this study aimed to analyze the effect of combined pelvic floor muscle and abdominal exercises on labor pain intensity and duration of labor among pregnant women. Methods: This study employed a quasi-experimental design with a posttest-only nonequivalent control group approach. The total sample consisted of 60 pregnant women, divided equally into an intervention group and a control group (1:1 ratio). Participants were selected using convenience non-probability sampling. The intervention group received prenatal exercise combining PFM and abdominal exercises starting from 38 weeks of gestation until delivery, while the control group received standard care. Data were analyzed using independent t-tests to compare outcomes between groups. Results: The findings demonstrated that the intervention group had significantly lower mean pain scores compared to the control group at 8 cm cervical dilation (t = -3.828, p = 0.001) and at complete dilation (t = -3.865, p = 0.001). Additionally, the duration of the first stage of labor (t = -3.118, p = 0.003) and the second stage of labor (t = -2.122, p = 0.038) were significantly shorter in the intervention group. Conclusions: Prenatal exercise combining pelvic floor muscle and abdominal exercises has a positive effect on the childbirth process by reducing labor pain and shortening the duration of labor stages. This intervention can be recommended as part of routine antenatal care to improve maternal outcomes.
