Abstract

One of the interchanges in Pekanbaru City, namely simpang tiga (Jalan Soekarno Hatta - Jalan Arifin Ahmad) has quite dense activities, because this road is an access to the center of community activities to the market area, offices and others. An increase in the number of vehicles larger compared to the available roads leads to congestion. One of the efforts to reduce congestion at intersections is to use yellow box markings. This marking is designed as a vehicleless area, if there is a traffic congestion, vehicle users who are still outside the marking must stop and wait until the traffic jam breaks down. This study aims to analyze the effectiveness of the yellow box markings and the suitability of the yellow box markings. This study used the Regulation of the Minister of Transportation No. 34 of 2014 and the Traffic Signs Manual Chapter 5 Road Markings (2018) and the Indonesian Road Capacity Manual (MKJI) 1997 to determine the effectiveness of intersection performance. The parameter used to determine the effectiveness of interchange performance is the degree of saturation. The results of the analysis found that the size of the yellow box markings at the research site was not appropriate according to Permenhub No.34 of 2014 the width of the straight line and the diagonal line was 10-18 cm and the Traffic Signs Manual Chapter 5 Road Markings (2018) the width of the diagonal line was 15 cm and the width of the straight line was 20 cm, while at the research location the width of the straight line and the diagonal line was 30 cm. For the number of offenders the yellow box markings were 7195 offenders. Based on the results of the saturation degree analysis, for intersection three, the saturation degree value exceeds 1.00 which indicates that the yellow box marking is not effective in improving the performance of the intersection.

Abstract

Pekanbaru City, one of Indonesia’s growing metropolitan areas, faces significant traffic challenges, particularly due to the increasing number of motorcycles. As the population rapidly expands, the volume of motorized vehicles rises, leading to frequent congestion—especially during peak hours. This study analyzes traffic performance at signalized intersections in Pekanbaru, focusing on congestion problems resulting from motorcycle dominance. The research examines vehicle volume, queue lengths, and delays at selected intersections. Findings reveal that the Gramedia (Nangka) and Governor’s Office intersections experience high traffic density, which elevates the risk of accidents. This study offers practical recommendations to support traffic management decisions and guide the development of a more efficient urban transportation system.

Abstract

Traffic accidents impose a heavy economic burden, particularly on victims’ medical expenses. PT. Jasa Raharja, a state-owned insurance company, plays a crucial role in providing compensation for hospitalization costs. This study analyzes the impact of PT. Jasa Raharja’s insurance on inpatient expenses for traffic accident victims in Pekanbaru City. The research applies a quantitative approach with descriptive analysis and simple regression. Data came from 120 respondents, consisting of victims and their families who received insurance benefits. The findings show that PT. Jasa Raharja’s insurance claims cover an average of 67% of total hospitalization costs, significantly reducing the victims’ financial burden. However, the coverage ceiling remains limited and does not fully meet medical expenses. This study concludes that PT. Jasa Raharja makes a substantial contribution to financing accident-related hospitalization, although increasing the claim ceiling would better align with current hospital costs.

Abstract

Motorcycles are among the most popular means of transportation in Indonesia. However, traffic accidents remain a significant issue, particularly in the city of Sungai Penuh. A contributing factor to the high accident rate is the risky behavior exhibited by motorcycle riders. This study aims to investigate the impact of motorcycle riders’ risky behavior on traffic safety in Sungai Penuh City and to assess the level of traffic awareness among these riders. The research employed a quantitative method, utilizing data collected through questionnaires. The sample comprised 100 respondents from the Sungai Penuh community, selected through the random sampling technique. The questionnaire featured 24 statements categorized into two variables: risky behavior and traffic safety of motorcycle riders. Responses were measured using a Likert scale. For data analysis, a simple linear regression test was conducted to determine the relationship between the variables. The findings indicate that the risky behavior of motorcycle riders does not have a significant positive impact on traffic safety. Such behaviors account for 17.4% of traffic safety outcomes, while the remaining 82.6% is influenced by other factors, including environmental conditions, road quality, time of day, and driving conditions. Furthermore, the level of awareness among motorcycle riders regarding risky behavior and traffic safety is moderate. Common risky behaviors among motorcycle riders include not wearing helmets on short trips and riding at high speeds. Traffic safety practices that need improvement include regularly checking vehicle conditions and using protective gear such as gloves and shoes
