Abstract

This article expects the readers to witness the condition of religious harmony in the village of Kutuk in Undaan, Kudus, Central Java. The people who live in the village share various religious backgrounds, but they live side by side in harmony. This condition is achieved as the results of the education carried out by the Kutuk people since ancient times that has passed down through generations. Then, what kind of education pattern is being developed by the community to accompany every Muslim to be a tolerant figure? This research question is answered through a qualitative research with a case study approach that uses non-measurement techniques in data collection processes, namely observation, interviews, and documentation. This study confirms that Kutuk village is a miniature of tolerant village in Kudus district. This village has a lifelong pattern of tolerance education, children with the education in their families, youth with peer education in youth organizations and adults with their educational councils. The methods that were utilized in the process of transmitting the tolerance values are education bil hal (education with good behavior and good examples), education bil maqol (education via oral tradition), and education bil du'a (education with a prayer). These findings provide some options to the community about applicable steps to empower families and communities in assisting Muslims to be tolerant. It is the evidence in the village that amaliyah of nahdliyyin such as yasinan, tahlilan, and berjanjenan have contributed signifi cantly to educate Muslim to be socially and theologically pious adherents of Islam.

Abstract

Religion is a sensitive issue that is easily brought up in Indonesia's pluralistic society. Moreover, minority groups sometimes feel they have less freedom of movement amidst various clashes with the customs and traditions of the majority. The dynamics between religion and custom must be addressed wisely and judiciously by all elements of society to form a harmonious, peaceful life in a pluralistic society. This requires sensitivity between religious communities to tolerate each other's customs and traditions without sacrificing their own beliefs. So, there will be excellent synergy between religion and custom. Conditions like this can be found in the Muslim community of the Balinese Pegayaman village, whose position is a minority but can integrate with local regional customs which are very strongly Hindu. This form of synergy between religion and customs in Muslim society in Bali is very interesting to research, as an example for a pluralistic society as well as a means of introducing customs and traditions through scientific publications. It turns out that the key to the synergy between religion and custom that is very well formed lies in the emotional sensitivity to respect and love each other and maintain traditions by internalizing religious values. This can be seen in the unique naming of the Muslim community, where they add family names according to Balinese traditions such as Wayan, Putu, Gede in front of their names which have Islamic nuances.

Abstract

AbstractThis research is motivated by the stagnation of Indonesia's gender equality index score, which ranks 87 out of 146 countries, the strong influence of patriarchal values, and the high rate of gender-based violence. This condition demands a more practical approach to promoting gender equality, primarily through inclusive education from an early age. The golok-golok menthok tradition in Kudus, Central Java, was chosen as the object of study because it has great potential to integrate gender equality values into people's daily lives. The purpose of this study is to explore how the golok-golok menthok tradition can be a medium for gender-inclusive education that promotes values of justice. The method used is a descriptive qualitative approach. The results show that the golok-golok menthok tradition not only functions as a religious celebration but also as a tool to transmit gender equality values to the younger generation. This tradition emphasizes that gender justice is part of a complete faith and must be integrated into daily life. The implications of this research show that culture and religion can synergize in promoting gender equality, forming a strong foundation for future generations to be fair and respectful of gender differences.

Abstract

Students with special needs in inclusive education settings, including Islamic boarding schools (pesantren), often face significant challenges related to low self-efficacy and limited independence. These difficulties are frequently rooted in feelings of alienation, low self-confidence, social withdrawal, and experiences of bullying. Peer support plays a vital role in fostering both self-efficacy and independence among these students. This study investigates how peer support contributes to the development of these attributes in inclusive Islamic boarding schools. Using a qualitative case study approach, data were collected through interviews, observations, and document analysis, and were analyzed thematically using Quirkos software. The findings indicate that emotional, instrumental, and informational support from peers—especially when accompanied by unconditional positive regard and emotional availability—significantly enhances students’ self-efficacy and independence. The integration of Islamic values and the cultural context of pesantren nurtures a peer environment rooted in the philosophy of “humanizing humans”, which promotes inclusivity and challenges hierarchical perceptions of disability. This study provides valuable insights for inclusive education practitioners aiming to foster supportive peer relationships and inclusive school cultures.

Abstract

Religion is a sensitive issue that is quickly brought up amidst the diversity of Indonesian society. Moreover, minority groups are perceived to have less freedom of movement among the traditions and customs of the majority. The dynamics between religion and customs must be addressed wisely and judiciously by all elements of society to form a harmonious and peaceful life in a pluralistic society. In this case, sensitivity between religious communities to tolerate each other's customs and traditions without sacrificing their beliefs is required to form a synergy between religion and customs. These conditions are found in the Muslim community of Pegayaman village, Bali. Despite the fact that they are a minority, they can integrate with local customs, which have solid Hindu characteristics. Various Balinese customs that go hand in hand with religious activities could be found easily. The synergy between religion and customs in Bali Muslim society is intriguing to research as a model for a pluralistic society and a means of introducing customs and traditions through scientific publications. The key to the well-performed synergy between religion and customs lies in the emotional sensitivity of respecting and loving each other as fellow human beings and maintaining traditions by internalizing religious values. This can be seen in the unique naming of the Muslim community. They add family names according to Balinese traditions, such as Wayan, Putu, and Gede, as first names before putting Islamic names. For this reason, this research will discuss the existence of Muslims as a minority and forms of synergy between religion and customs of the Muslim community in Pegayaman village, Buleleng sub-district, Bali.
