Abstract

This phenomenological study investigated the way three authentic Indonesian Muslims who live in Bandung and Jakarta gave meaning to the word freedom. Three informants were purposively selected to participate in the study: a 34-year-old Muslim businesswoman; married; and lives in Jakarta; a Muslim man, 36 years old, single, a lawyer who lives in Bandung; and a 21-year-old single man who is a sophomore at a private university in Bandung. In-depth interview was administered to obtain detailed and more comprehensive information about the participants’ thoughts and experiences.  IPA (Interpretative Phenomenological Analysis) and Domain Analyses were utilized to analyze the data gathered. The study found that birth order, parenting styles, exposure to collectivist or individualistic value systems as well as Western concept of freedom, repentance or “Tawbah”, and increased knowledge about Islam were strongly related to their meaning construction of the word freedom.

Abstract

Paradigma tugas seperti n-back task, flanker task, go no/go task, numerical-estimation task, dan stroop task, dirangkai menjadi suatu latihan melalui aplikasi OpenSesame®.

Abstract

This study aimed to adapt the Short Dark Tetrad (SD4) instrument into Indonesian and evaluate its construct relevance and internal consistency. The SD4, which measures Machiavellianism, narcissism, psychopathy, and sadism, is an important tool for understanding dark personality traits. The adaptation was guided by the conceptual framework of Paulus et al. Data were collected through an online platform provided by PT Nirmala Satya Development (NSD), and model fit, and item performance were examined. The results indicated that the model demonstrated acceptable fit, with RMSEA, SRMR, and GFI values falling within appropriate ranges, although CFI and TLI values were slightly below the ideal thresholds. Internal consistency was strong, with reliability coefficients suggesting the instrument measured the intended traits reliably. Most items showed adequate representation of their respective dimensions. These findings support the use of the Indonesian version of SD4 in personality research. However, further research is recommended to refine the model and examine its applicability across different populations and cultural contexts.

Abstract

Intensive academic activities often lead to burnout, driving students to sacrifice sleep. This behavior reflects ghuluw ‘amaly (excessive behavior) by neglecting well-being, which results in significant psychological and physical impacts, including reduced resilience and motivation, brain dysfunction, and impaired sleep quality. This study aimed to investigate the correlation between academic burnout and sleep quality among psychology students at Universitas Muhammadiyah Bandung, integrating both physiological and Islamic perspectives. A mixed-methods approach was applied, combining a quantitative correlational method with library research. Data were collected through proportionate stratified random sampling, involving 204 psychology students (M = 21; SD = 1.08), who were assessed using the Academic Burnout Scale and the Sleep Quality Scale. Data were analyzed with the Pearson product-moment correlation test. The results indicate a significant moderate negative correlation between academic burnout and sleep quality (r = -.541; p < .01). Moreover, academic burnout at low and high levels was equally distributed among students, with 50% (n = 102) and 56% (n = 115) reporting poor sleep quality. This finding reflects that higher levels of academic burnout are associated with poorer sleep quality, while lower levels of burnout are linked to better sleep quality. These findings highlight the importance of avoiding excessive behavior and maintaining tawazun, which refers to striking a balance between academic responsibilities and personal well-being, thereby preventing academic burnout and improving sleep quality.
