The pandemic has affected many aspects of our lives including education and that has caused the Government to provide alternative teaching methods and make recommendations for online learning. Since smartphones and laptops using the internet are the only tools for learning, students are increasingly playing online games and being exposed to English vocabulary. This research aimed at identifying and analyzing whether students' participation in online games and vocabulary mastery simultaneously correlate with their learning motivation. This research is a quantitative research with a correlation design. The research was conducted at SMPN I Koba, Central Bangka, Bangka Belitung, with 93 students as respondents. The data collection technique used a questionnaire with a Likert scale on the online games questionnaire and learning motivation and the Guttman scale on the vocabulary mastery questionnaire. The prerequisite test uses the normality test, homogeneity test, and linearity test. Analysis using correlation analysis of r-Product moment and multiple regression analysis. The research results have shown that there is a correlation between students’ participation in online games and vocabulary mastery simultaneously with learning motivation.

The criteria of success of this research were 85% of students to get score 75 as the minimum target. In cycle 1, 65% of students got 75. Then, there was an improvement in cycle 2, 76%. Finally, 88% students could achieve score 75 as minimum target in cycle 3. The result of this research indicates that tstudents’ writing skills in procedure text improved after the Canva application was used as the learning tool in the teaching and learning process.

Abstract

The research was carried out to investigate the significant effect of the TBLT (Task-Based Language Teaching) and students’ reading motivation on their reading comprehension achievement. The research employed an experimental approach with a factorial framework to investigate the interaction and individual impacts of the variables that were independent. The study population included all eighth-grade students at Salsabila Islamic School Palembang during the 2024–2025 academic years, encompassing four classes with a combined total of 120 students. From this population, a total of 60 students were purposively selected from the population, with 30 students placed in the experimental group and the remaining 30 students in the control group. The data collection methods included a reading motivation questionnaire and reading comprehension tests, both administered as pretests and posttests. The questionnaire, consisting of 20 structured items, aimed to measure the students' levels of reading motivation. The comprehension test consisted of 40 multiple-choice questions, each with five answer options, designed to evaluate the students’ understanding of reading materials. To analyze the data, several statistical techniques were utilized. Specifically, the paired sample t-test, independent sample t-test, and two-way ANOVA were used. All statistical analyses were conducted using SPSS version 22. The results of the hypothesis testing indicated that all four hypotheses yielded statistically significant outcomes, as shown by p-values less than 0.05. Based on these findings, it can be taken the conclusion that the implementation of TBLT strategy has a positive and significant influence on improving students’ reading comprehension. Thus, TBLT is recommended as an effective pedagogical approach in English language instruction, particularly in enhancing reading skills among junior high school students.

Abstract

This study examines the effect of the Cooperative Integrated Reading and Composition (CIRC) method and students’ learning activeness on the reading comprehension of seventh-grade students at SMPN 3 Rantau Bayur. Using a quantitative experimental design, two groups were involved: an experimental group taught with CIRC and a control group taught using conventional methods. Students in each group were further classified into high and low learning activeness categories. Data were collected through pre-tests and post-tests for reading comprehension, and learning activeness was assessed through observation checklists. The results, analyzed using Two-Way ANOVA, indicated that: (1) the CIRC method significantly improved students’ reading comprehension, (2) learning activeness had a significant positive effect on reading comprehension, and (3) there was no significant interaction between the teaching method and learning activeness. These findings suggest that both CIRC and learning activeness independently contribute to better reading comprehension, making CIRC an effective strategy for enhancing reading skills in junior high school students.
