Abstract

Technology integration has a great impact on learners’ learning styles and everyday life, where various encouraging responses come across in language learning institutions through the use of mobile technology. WhatsApp application instantly transfers information in different modes. At the present time it can be effectively used as a platform to engage learners with conventional classroom setting. The present study is an attempt to investigate learners’ attitudes towards WhatsApp application and their intention for future use. 32 EFL learners were exposed to learn vocabulary by the use of WhatsApp application for a period of 6 weeks. Data were collected by using questionnaire and semi-structured interviews. The result exhibited higher levels (M= 4.4 and Mode 4.37) of the mean scores of the learners’ perception and (M= 4.3) on WhatsApp Usage attitudes.   The finding of the study indicated that learners expressed positive attitudes in using WhatsApp applications for vocabulary development. The present study also suggests that the integration of WhatsApp should be fortified to learners, instructors and institutions in developing other language learning process.

Abstract

Energy is a fundamental factor for civilization development and sustainability. However, energy sources are dominated by non-renewable fractions, such as fossil fuels. Renewable biomass is projected to be a future fuel source. Spirulina platensis (SP) has numerous advantages compared to other biomass, and it is considered 3rd generation biomass that does not interfere with food and land usage and has a relatively low main decomposition temperature at 325.7℃. Thermogravimetric analysis (TGA) was conducted to observe SP kinetics parameters, especially activation energy. Kissinger-Akahira-Sunose (KAS), Ozawa-Flynn-Wall (OFW), and Starink iso-conversional methods reveal that SP has an activation energy of 152.33, 154.56, and 152.78 kJ/mol, respectively. The coefficient correlation (R2) of OFW is the highest compared to its counterpart at 0.9918. Non-condensable gas (H2, CH4, and CO2) product distribution is characterized using a fixed-bed pyrolysis reactor. The average concentrations of H2, CH4, and CO2 are 3775.2, 83792.19, and 23592.58 ppm, in that order. H2 production is linked with carbohydrates and protein decomposition. CH4 yield heavily depends on protein degradation, followed by carbohydrates and lipids. CO2 yield mainly originated from carbohydrate cracking. The optimum SP pyrolysis temperature is 310—370℃ based on its non-condensable gas yield, TGA result, OFW kinetics method, and thermodynamics parameter, where it has relatively low activation energy (139.29 kJ/mol) accompanied by a significant increase of non-condensable-gas-production.

Abstract

Vocabulary learning is an essential part of language learning. Vocabulary Instruction Feedback is essential in achieving learning objectives, mainly in language education. Vocabulary retention in one of the key issues in developing various language skills. Vocabulary instruction feedback is essential in achieving learning objectives, mainly in language education.  The present study purposes to determine the role and impact of AI-driven feedback in EFL vocabulary instruction in Islamic countries educational institution. The study used systematic review method to gather data for the present study. For this, the study reviews the various AI-driven models that can be integrated with E-learning and act a source of feedback. The findings of the review assert that   AI-driven mechanisms can be integrated to enhance the vocabulary learning and retention. The analysis suggest that AI-driven feedback models can useful if they are effectively incorporated in enhancing EFL vocabulary learning. By leveraging these technologies, instructors can produce more personalized feedback and operative learning experiences that help students in their vocabulary learning and retention.

Abstract

The use of mobile devices is common in the development of language learning, and it has remarkable effects on fostering language instruction. The present study is a qualitative attempt to determine the learners’ attitudes on integrating m-learning in developing the vocabulary of speaking performance. The study used a qualitative research method to attain the data. 25 EFL learners were the participants of the study. Semi-Structured interviews were used to gather the learners’ responses. The findings suggest that learners endorsed the m-learning app to develop vocabulary learning for speaking performance. More specifically, the analysis of the data exhibited that the use of WhatsApp deemed usleful in the retention of vocabualry for spoken proficiency.

Abstract

It is hard to ignore the importance of reading skills for desired proficiency in foreign languages. Reading can be beneficial for learners to immerse themselves in the target language and learn it efficiently. In EFL contexts like Saudi Arabia, learners face many challenges in reading skills. The main purpose of this research was to explore reading problems of elementary level students and causes of the readings skills inabilities. Following random and convenience sampling techniques; this mixed-method research obtained quantitative data from 290 elementary level students and qualitative data from nine teachers and supervisors. The analysis of quantitative data from the reading test and checklist and qualitative data retrieved from interviews suggests that students considerably perform relatively low in reading skills, and the main reasons are poor vocabulary, incorrect pronunciation, wrong spellings, slow reading pace, and flawed grammar. These five areas account for more than 90% of the challenges faced by learners in reading skills. Based on evidence from this research, we suggest that policymakers, teachers, and students should focus on these five areas for solving the issues related to reading skills. Although other avenues are essential, these items demand special attention to develop the reading skills of EFL learners in Saudi Arabia and elsewhere in the world.Keywords: Reading skill, Elementary level, Reading Pace, EFL
