Abstract

Since 2014, Russia and Ukraine have been locked in a protracted conflict in Eastern Ukraine, escalating in the Russian invasion of Ukraine in 2022. Both sides utilized various ethnically charged propaganda themes to justify their positions. This paper examines the extent to which the conflict is framed as an indispensable necessity to protect the ethnic interests of Ukraine and Russia. The paper employs the three ethnic theories—primordialism, constructivism, and instrumentalism—to analyze the underlying dynamics of the ethnic propaganda in the Russia-Ukrainian conflict. The finding suggests that the broader geopolitical interests are veiled in the ethnic narratives from both sides.

Abstract

CdS is an important wide bandgap chalcogenides most popularly studied for various optoelectronics and biosensing applications. In this study, CdS Nanoparticles (NPs) have been prepared successfully by chemical co-precipitation method, using cadmium acetate and sodium sulphide as precursors. A comparative study of average particle size calculated by Scherrer Plot, Uniform Deformation Model (UDM), Dynamic Light Scattering (DLS) analysis and Brus Model has been done here. The structural and optical behaviour of synthesized samples were investigated via X-ray diffraction (XRD), DLS and UV–Visible Spectroscopy. The XRD spectra of the prepared CdS NPs revealed the crystalline phase having cubic structure. The average particles size has been studied via Debye Scherrer equation and Scherrer Plot. For the theoretical calculations of particle size along with the induced lattice strain, considering the broadening effect of lattice strain, Williamson-Hall analysis was employed. Assuming the lattice strain to be isotropic in nature, UDM was applied for calculation. The particles size distribution profile in terms of volume as well as intensity was recorded using DLS analysis in ethanol medium at room temperature. Besides this, the energy bandgap was obtained by applying Tauc model in the recorded absorption spectra. The obtained value of bandgap was used in Brus model for estimating the average particle size. The obtained comparative results show that the average particle size of the prepared CdS NPs estimated from Scherrer equation, Scherrer plot, UDM plot and Brus model are almost similar and lies in the range of 2-5 nm whereas the results of DLS showed wide variation in the range of 40-600 nm.

Abstract

It is hard to ignore the importance of reading skills for desired proficiency in foreign languages. Reading can be beneficial for learners to immerse themselves in the target language and learn it efficiently. In EFL contexts like Saudi Arabia, learners face many challenges in reading skills. The main purpose of this research was to explore reading problems of elementary level students and causes of the readings skills inabilities. Following random and convenience sampling techniques; this mixed-method research obtained quantitative data from 290 elementary level students and qualitative data from nine teachers and supervisors. The analysis of quantitative data from the reading test and checklist and qualitative data retrieved from interviews suggests that students considerably perform relatively low in reading skills, and the main reasons are poor vocabulary, incorrect pronunciation, wrong spellings, slow reading pace, and flawed grammar. These five areas account for more than 90% of the challenges faced by learners in reading skills. Based on evidence from this research, we suggest that policymakers, teachers, and students should focus on these five areas for solving the issues related to reading skills. Although other avenues are essential, these items demand special attention to develop the reading skills of EFL learners in Saudi Arabia and elsewhere in the world. Keywords: Reading skill, Elementary level, Reading Pace, EFL

Abstract

English has become the most important language for people to learn, and accordingly, it is above politics. Many people have learned it as a second/foreign language in Nawabshah, Pakistan. It is also heard in business speak across international companies with English having developed this role over time due to the Anglicization of other cultures. Many students find learning English as a Foreign Language (EFL) difficult because of the few similar characteristics it shares with their native tongue. The present research intends to investigate the problems EFL learners encounter and attribute those against them. To accomplish this aim, a survey was carried out with EFL learners in Pakistan to gauge what they find difficult about learning English and the elements that impact their learning. English language learners face many obstacles and visible issues. The results of the study can inform language teaching practices and policies to better support EFL learners in overcoming their difficulties and achieving their language learning goals.
