Abstract

Various activities in coastal areas have negative impacts on the ecological stability of the waters. The result of human anthropogenic activities around the water causes changes and degradation of the aquatic environment. The population development in the Tanjungpinang City area continues to increase and is starting to spread to the coastal area, one of which is the Madong coastal area. The Madong area is used for various kinds of coastal activities, including catching biota, transportation areas, fish ponds or cages for consumption, and residential areas. Thus, this area is prone to water pollution and a decrease in water conditions. For this reason, a recent study is needed related to the condition of water pollution which is described using the Water Pollutant Index. The results of the study show that the parameters of temperature, turbidity, DO, BOD, and pH are parameters that are still in accordance with the quality standard threshold in the Minister of Environment Decree No. 51 (2004). Meanwhile, the TSS value exceeds the water quality standard value, while the salinity is below the quality standard range because the location of Madong waters has a low salinity level. This condition is due to the fact that the waters of Madong are still influenced by freshwater rivers. Overall, the pollutant index value or the Pollutan index for Madong waters of 1.87 is classified as lightly polluted. however, an increase in activity in the future can worsen water conditions and have the potential to increase their pollutant value.

Abstract

Littoral zone often face environmental pressure due to anthropogenic activities, which can impact the quality of their ecosystem. This study analyzes the concentrations of copper (Cu) and lead (Pb) in sediments and benthic (Anadara granosa and Cerithidea cingulata). Sampling procedures were implemented during September 2022 across the aquatic habitats of Sembilang National Park, in South Sumatra Province, using the purposive sampling method. Sediment grain size and substrate type were analyzed using Shepard’s triangle. Metal detection using a spectrophotometric method based on atomic absorption. The results showed that the sediment fraction mostly consisted of clay, ranging from 92.03% to 94%. Cu concentrations in the sediment ranged from 5.01±0.017 to 5.71±0 mg/kg, while Pb concentrations ranged from 10.5±0.195 to 11.51±0.395 mg/kg. In the benthic, Cu concentrations ranged from 0.0037±0.00005773 to 0.0147±0.00000346 mg/kg, and Pb concentrations ranged from 0.0001±0.000227 to 0.005±0 mg/kg. According to the statistical evaluation testing via independent sample t-test showed that heavy metals differed significantly (p <0.05) between sediment and benthic compartments. These results show that the environmental quality in Sembilang National Park is still comparatively well maintained and within current quality requirements, despite certain activities that have the potential to pollute the environment. To guarantee the long-term viability of this area, it is advised that environmental quality be frequently monitored as a mitigation action.

Abstract

Jaloh Island is one of the islands in the Riau Islands Province which is the location of SDN 10 Bulang and SMPN 19 Batam. Students on this island have difficulty accessing in and out of the island, thus hampering various distributions, including accessing reading resources. For this reason, 1st place competitions and book donations were carried out for existing schools. This activity is to see knowledge and increase students' reading interest. The activity lasted for two days, with previous mapping and division of the implementation team. The results of this activity gave students enthusiasm in taking part in competitions and reading the donated books, where 50 books were donated
