Abstract

The regional head election (Pemilukada) in Indonesia is an important part of the democratic process, which will be held simultaneously on November 27, 2024. This event involves all elements of society in determining regional leaders, including governors, regents, and mayors. The General Election Commission (KPU) plays the role of an independent and neutral organizer, responsible for ensuring that the election is conducted fairly and democratically. In an effort to increase public participation, the KPU implements the Voter Education Socialization program, which aims to provide understanding of the importance of Pemilukada, the voting process, and citizens' responsibilities. This study employs a qualitative approach with library research methods to explore the role of KPU's Public Relations in this socialization program. The findings indicate that the KPU has successfully raised awareness and participation among the public through various communication strategies, including the use of social media and direct activities. Although there has been a decline in voter participation compared to the previous presidential election, this socialization program is expected to strengthen community engagement in the 2024 Pemilukada. This research contributes to the literature on the role of KPU's Public Relations in creating a society that is aware of the importance of elections, particularly in the context of the 2024 Pemilukada

Abstract

This article aims to analyze the persuasive crowdfunding campaign strategies carried out by the social organization Ketimbang Ngemis Jakarta (KNJ) in the charitable social movement through Instagram. Grounded in Pope's (2023) theory, three key factors determine campaign success: communication strategy, credibility and transparency, and audience engagement. The research adopts a qualitative approach, utilizing in-depth interviews, online observation, and social media content analysis. Findings reveal KNJ's effective optimization of these factors. First, its communication strategy leverages visual content and emotional narratives (e.g., the story of Mr. Leo) to foster empathy and donor participation. Second, credibility and transparency are maintained through organizational legality, periodic reporting, and internal verification mechanisms for aid accuracy. Third, audience engagement is cultivated via two-way interactions, Instagram's interactive features, and public involvement in beneficiary recommendations. However, challenges such as donor fatigue and fraud risks persist. The study's outcomes offer a framework for other social organizations to optimize digital-era crowdfunding campaigns, emphasizing the synergy of emotionally compelling communication, robust credibility, and active audience participation.

Abstract

In the midst of the high production of coal to meet the energy needs of society, JATAM strives to carry out a social campaign for environmental advocacy in the indigenous communities of Kalimantan. The purpose of this article is to describe the management of JATAM's deadly coal campaign in advocating for the environmental rights of indigenous communities in Kalimantan due to coal mining activities. A qualitative research approach was chosen to uncover data to address these objectives. The data collection techniques employed were interviews and documentation through online media monitoring. The data analysis technique utilized three stages: data reduction, data presentation, and drawing conclusions. The results obtained indicate that the campaign aims to advocate for the rights of indigenous communities in Kalimantan to have a safe and healthy environment without mining contamination. The primary target audience includes indigenous communities and the government. In its implementation, JATAM engages in discussions and provides writing training for indigenous communities. Furthermore, JATAM collaborates with Greenpeace and other international NGOs to conduct on-the-ground lobbying of government policies through various actions. The targeted communities have shown a change in attitude and behavior, demonstrating acceptance and willingness to learn about the impacts of mining and their rights to life in their indigenous land.
