However, though the precise number is yet to be documented, children have been woefully failing the subject causing fears and panics in the general population more especially in the parents and government authorities as the future of development seemingly anchored on science and its applications. The fundamental rationale for the systematic literature review is to examine the causes of poor performance in mathematics among senior secondary school students; share knowledge to spark and inspire a process that will usher in appropriate interventions in eradicated the menace. A systematic review of the literatures using information collected from different sources was actuated. Google search engine, google scholar, web of science, scopus database, etc. were used to search for these articles. During the search numerous combinations of words and phrases were used to ensure articles reflect the most recent knowledge and scholarly works. In essence, only peer-reviewed articles published after 2000 were selected except extracts perceived to be of fundamental mileage to the study. However, articles published by staunch international organizations working in education for years and has produced indefatigable knowledge in the field were stealthily appraised. The study revealed that the causes of poor performance in mathematics among senior secondary school students are multifaceted and include causes located in personal status, erroneous beliefs, students, teachers, teaching methods, language competence, teaching and learning materials, parents and family members, schools, policies, society, infrastructures, and government. The poor performance in mathematics among senior secondary school students is negatively impacting their access to tertiary institutions for higher education in order to effectively take part in future national developments and worse of all pushing them to commit crimes as they cannot secure jobs in the highly competitive job market..

Abstract

Twenty-one percent of young women married before the age of eighteen. Approximately 650 million girls and women are married before their 18th birthday (UNICEF, 2020, 2021). States member of the United Nations, through its Sustainable Development Goals, has committed to ending child marriage globally through laws, legislation, and other means. Though the practice of child marriage is declining globally, it remains prevalent in Africa and Asia, particularly in the Gambia. This study looks at the impact of child marriage on girls' education in rural Gambia and the factors that encourage it. The researchers conducted qualitative case study research through documentation, Focus Group discussion (FGD), observation, and interviews to collect data. The study's findings indicate that child marriage has negative impacts on girls' education in rural Gambia. This reveals the fact that the percentage of girls enrolled in schools, especially high school, is lower than boys. Girls also face more difficulties than boys to complete, retain and transit to secondary or higher education. This leaves them with no future and excludes them from social or economic advantages. The factors that encourage child marriage are included: religion, poverty, culture, lack of meaningful opportunity, older men's desire for younger women to marry, and the failure of law enforcement. These factors mentioned repeatedly perpetuate the practice of child marriage, and undermine the educational opportunities for the majority of girls in the Niani district of Gambia. Therefore, the researchers recommend that the Gambian government enforce the existing laws and regulations to protect children’s fundamental rights and put into practice the necessary regulations on the prohibition and elimination of this phenomenon.

Abstract

Final year students often face high academic and psychological pressures, especially towards the completion of their studies. In the context of Muslim students in Indonesia, this situation is even more complex as they are faced with academic demands, social expectations, and spiritual dynamics that shape their psychological experience. One of the impacts of this pressure is the emergence of hopelessness, which is a feeling of hopelessness about the situation at hand. This study aims to understand the psychosocial factors that influence hopelessness in final-year Muslim students, focusing on the role of peer attachment, healthy lifestyle, social media addiction, academic stress, and religiosity. This study used a confirmatory quantitative approach with Partial Least Squares Structural Equation Modeling (PLS-SEM) analysis technique. A total of 815 final-year Muslim students from various universities in Indonesia participated in the online survey. The research instrument measured six main constructs, and the data were analyzed to test the validity, reliability, direct and indirect effects, and mediating and moderating roles in the conceptual model. The results of the analysis showed that academic stress was a significant mediator in the relationship between healthy lifestyle, social media addiction, and religiosity with hopelessness. Meanwhile, religiosity also acts as a moderator that strengthens or weakens the relationship between peer attachment, academic stress, and social media addiction with hopelessness. This model is able to explain 93.6% of the variance of academic stress and 97.8% of the variance of hopelessness. However, peer attachment showed no significant direct or indirect effect on hopelessness. These findings confirm the importance of comprehensive guidance and counseling services for final year students, especially in managing academic stress, social media use, and strengthening the meaning of life. Healthy lifestyle-based interventions and targeted emotional support are needed to prevent hopelessness in this population.

Abstract

Background: Extramarital affairs remain a pervasive phenomenon across societies, with far-reaching negative socio-economic and political consequences for couples, children, and communities. Objective: The objective of this study was to systematically review the range of support services required by survivors of extramarital affairs and to synthesise knowledge that can inspire effective interventions. Method: A systematic literature review was conducted using multiple sources, including Google Scholar and other academic databases. Only peer-reviewed articles published after 2000 were included, except for seminal works providing essential conceptual foundations. In addition, publications from established international organisations with longstanding engagement in this area were critically appraised. Result: The findings indicate that survivors require diverse forms of support, such as disclosure, education and awareness programs, behavioural therapy, poverty and inequality alleviation, healthcare services, social welfare interventions, relationship satisfaction initiatives, group therapy, and counselling. Conclusion: This study concludes that holistic and multi-sectoral support services are essential to mitigate the long-term impacts of extramarital affairs. Contribution: The contribution of this review lies in consolidating fragmented knowledge, providing a comprehensive understanding of survivor needs, and offering evidence-based insights that can guide social workers, healthcare providers, and policymakers in designing effective interventions.

Abstract

Background: Despite robust international and national rights frameworks, disaster risk reduction and management still center on the non-disabled. As climate-related hazards intensify, people with disabilities face a 2–4x higher risk of injury or death, exposing persistent gaps in inclusive planning and service delivery. Objective: To identify and synthesize support services required by PWDs during and after disasters, and to translate these needs into actionable implications for disaster management and risk reduction planners. Method: A systematic review of peer-reviewed literature published from 2000 onward, along with select reports from long-standing international organizations, was conducted using multi-source searches. Eligible studies addressed supports for PWDs across the response and recovery phases. Data were extracted and thematically synthesized. Result: Required supports coalesced into eight domains: health & rehabilitation; accessibility & mobility; communication; participation & governance; social–family support; psychosocial & protection; livelihood & financial assistance; and data & coordination. Conclusion: Disability-inclusive disaster management requires embedding universal design, co-production with PWDs, and guaranteed accessibility across all phases, from warnings and evacuation to long-term recovery. Systems must ensure continuity of care, accessible infrastructure, and accountable governance to reduce disproportionate risk. Contribution: This review consolidates fragmented evidence into a practical, planner-ready framework of service domains, offering a checklist for operational readiness and highlighting evidence gaps in low-resource settings, intersectional risks, and continuity of assistive technology during protracted recovery.
