Abstract

The Goal-based evaluation is an evaluation method introduced by Tyler as a pioneer in evaluating programs and policies in education. In practice, this method is also widely used by evaluators and researchers to evaluate programs in non-educational fields. Many publications report the results of evaluations from the 80s to the present, but have not made generalizations about these studies. This study aims to determine the application of goal-based evaluation as a generalized multifunctional evaluation method from various studies published online. Systematic reviews and meta-evaluations were carried out to investigate the characteristics of the evaluation research using the goal-based evaluation method, identify the steps of this method and discover the novelty of this method which can be adapted for subsequent applications. Data in the form of evaluation report articles were collected by searching online sources and selecting articles that met the criteria. Then each article is analyzed to find answers to the research objectives. The results of the study show that 1) the goal-based evaluation method can be used to evaluate various fields of study, 2) the steps of goal-based evaluation vary depending on the purpose of the evaluation, 3) modifications are carried out by the researcher by summarizing the evaluation steps, determining evaluators from various related fields, as well as determine program objectives at the outset in accordance with the parties related to the program. The application of goal-based evaluation and its modifications can be used as reference material for future evaluators in evaluating similar policies or programs as well as for researchers who will further develop this method.

Abstract

Student textbooks need to contain character education following curriculum objectives. This study aimed to describe the character content in high school science textbooks 10th-grade, analyze the distribution of character content on each topic, and identify similarities in each textbook. The research objectives were answered by inferential content analysis. The books analyzed were two textbooks (one published by the government and one published by a private company). The results showed that both textbooks contained dimensions of the Pancasila student profile presented explicitly and implicitly. The analysis showed that the character content in book 1 was 262 and in book 2 was 463. Book 1 is dominated by critical reasoning (39%) and book 2 is dominated by independence (34%). The distribution of characters on each topic in the two books is different, but both books contain all dimensions of the character profile of Pancasila students. The results of this study are considered for teachers to use various books and learning resources in learning. In addition, the results of this study also provide initial information for future researchers to develop a mechanism for measuring the profile of Pancasila students as a feature of the Independent Curriculum.

Abstract

Changes in social and technological aspects demand curriculum changes in education. Curriculum changes were made to create capable human beings according to the era. The Indonesian Ministry of Education has responded to these changes by implementing the "Merdeka Curriculum". However, there are still some challenges in practice, especially in learning assessment. This study aims to determine teachers' understanding of assessments under the Merdeka Curriculum. This type of research is descriptive, using a qualitative approach. A total of ten biology teachers participated in this study. The results showed that the teacher understood the assessment concept and the steps for compiling assessments under the Merdeka Curriculum. However, from the results of the analysis of the assessment questions used by the teacher, there are still questions that are not following the objectives of the Merdeka Curriculum. The results of this study can be used as a consideration by stakeholders and universities where there is a teacher training program in the process of socialising the Merdeka Curriculum.

Abstract

This study provides insights into STEM practices that are integrated with project-based learning. We show that when investigations into student interest and active participation, there are opportunities to experience project-based learning. The sample in the study was 30 students of biology education who attended environmental science lectures. The data analysis was carried out qualitatively with descriptive analysis to see the dominance of learning arrangements, learning activities, and the products of each of these learning settings. Students work on projects using the STEM learning steps. The results show that students can work on projects well, and are able to publish their work on YouTube.
