Abstract

Appendectomy is done as soon as possible to reduce the risk of further perforation such as peritonitis or abscess. If not handled properly it can cause complications, slow down the recovery process, and increase the length of hospital stay. The purpose of the study is to analyze the effectiveness of the combination of nature sound and foot massage on pain in post-appendectomy patients. Method: True experiment with pre-post test control group design. The intervention group (n=21) was given nature sound therapy for 15 minutes, the combination group (n=21) was given a combination of nature sound therapy and foot massage for 15 minutes, and the control group (n=21) received routine nursing care. Data analysis used the Wilcoxon test. Results: The combination of nature sound and foot massage for 15 minutes/day is effective and significantly reduces pain on the average Numeric Rating Scale (NRS) score. There were differences in pain before and after the intervention in the three groups. Combination therapy of nature sound and foot massage has a greater value than the hospital SPO group and the nature sound group with a p-value of 0.004 and delta a mean of 0.70. In conclusion: The combination of nature sound and foot massage is effective in reducing pain in post-appendectomy patients.

Abstract

Acute coronary syndrome can cause chest pain with a heavy quality, radiating to the left arm, neck, jaw and back. Uncontrolled chest pain will cause physiological and psychological problems in the form of anxiety, and abnormal heartbeat. This problem can be treated with non-pharmacological intervention in the form of a red ginger compress which can increase capillary permeability, histamine release and vasodilation, thereby relaxing muscle and nerve tissue in acute coronary syndrome patients. The research aims to explain the effectiveness of giving kojame (compressing red ginger) to chest pain and anxiety in patients with acute coronary syndrome. The research design uses a Quasi Experiment study with Pre-Post Test with Control Group Design. The sample size was 57 respondents with each group consisting of 19 respondents, using a consecutive sampling technique. The intervention for each group was given 4 times for 20-30 minutes in 2 days. Analysis of this research data used the Wilcoxon test and Mann-Whitney test (ρ<0.05). Shows from the two groups the kojame intervention (red ginger compresses) is more influenced by a decrease in chest pain and anxiety with a value of ρ-value 0.008. Kojame intervention (red ginger compress) is more effective in reducing chest pain and anxiety in patients with acute coronary syndrome.

Abstract

Background: The high risk of death and treatment costs for chronic kidney disease make a global problem. History of hypertension, diabetes mellitus, smoking, and energy supplement drinks are factors that cause chronic kidney disease that can be controlled. Consequently, it is important to identify factors associated with poor outcomes among hemodialytic patients. Objective: This study aims to determine the main factors associated with chronic kidney disease in a private hospital in Blitar. Methods: The study was a cross-sectional study. 132 patients were purposively selected in the study. Data was analyzed using logistic regression. Results: The multivariate analysis showed that a smoking history accompanied by another factor increases the risk of Chronic Kidney Disease.  Diabetes Mellitus history (OR: 3.04), Hypertension history (OR: 1,4), Smoking History (OR:0,3), Drinking energy supplement history (OR:0.3) were significant variables on patients undergoing maintenance hemodialyis. Conclusions: The foremost common cause of patients undergoing maintenance hemodialysis is smoking history. More education is needed for society to avoid chronic kidney disease by exercising health control regularly, stopping smoking, and having a healthy lifestyle.

Abstract

Background: Stroke is a medical condition that arises from the disruption or rupture of blood vessels in the brain, making it an emergency that can lead to neuromuscular disorders, muscle weakness, and potentially result in disability or death. One effective treatment to alleviate muscle weakness in non-hemorrhagic stroke patients is massage therapy with clove oil. This therapy helps by boosting endorphin release and decreasing muscle spasticity, which in turn relaxes the muscle tissue in these patients. Purpose: To explain the effectiveness of massage therapy with clove oil on the degree of muscle strength in non-hemorrhagic stroke patients. Method: A quasi-experimental study employing a pre-post test with a control group design was carried out on 48 non-hemorrhagic stroke patients. These patients received range of motion exercises, massage therapy without oil, and massage therapy with clove oil, selected through consecutive sampling. Each treatment was administered six times for 30 minutes over six days. Data analysis was performed using the Friedman test and Kruskal-Wallis test (ρ<0.05) with SPSS version 22. Results: The clove oil massage therapy had a greater effect on increasing the degree of muscle strength with a ρ-value of 0.000. Conclusion: Massage therapy with clove oil is effective in increasing the degree of muscle strength in non-hemorrhagic stroke patients compared to other groups.

Abstract

Background: Diabetes is a chronic disease that will be suffered for life and can have an impact on complications, one of which is Peripheral Arterial Disease (PAD) which is characterized by a decrease in the value of the Ankle Brachial Index (ABI) and is the main cause of the increasing number of gangrene incidents and amputations. To prevent these complications, it is necessary to have therapy that can increase the value of the Ankle Brachial Index (ABI), which is by combining acupressure therapy and warm water foot soak (hydrotherapy). Purpose: To analyzing the effectiveness of the combined therapy of acupressure and warm water foot soak towards Ankle Brachial Index (ABI) value in type II diabetes mellitus. Methods: Using a quasi-experimental design with a pretest-posttest design approach with 51 participant. The participant were taken using simple random sampling technique and divided into 3 intervention groups. The first group is acupressure (n = 17), the second group is warm water foot soak (n = 17) and the third group is a combination of acupressure and warm water foot soak (n = 17). The normality test in this study was conducted using the Shapiro Wilk test, the dependent t test was used to determine any changes in each group while comparing the effectiveness of Ankle Branchial Index (ABI) values of each group using the one way anova test. Results: The use of acupressure therapy can have an effect on the value of the Ankle Brachial Index (ABI) with a significance value of p:  .000. The group receiving warm water foot soak therapy also experienced changes but the change in the Ankle Brachial Index (ABI) value was not too significant because the significance value was obtained p:  0.002. While in the group with the combination of acupressure and warm water foot bath has a significance value of p: 0.000 Conclusion: The combination therapy of acupressure and warm water foot soak provides an effective influence on the ankle branchial index with a significance value of p: 0.000 (p < 0.05) compared to warm water foot soak therapy which has a significance value of p: 0.002. (p< 0,05). By combining acupressure therapy and warm water foot soak, sclerosed blood vessels can stretch due to the effect of heat which causes vasodilation of blood vessels which has an impact on smooth blood flow and can carry oxygen and nutrients well, especially to the feet.

Abstract

Background: Hyperglycemia often occurs in DM patients even though they have received pharmacological therapy, thus encouraging people to consume herbal medicines. The dosage of herbal therapy consumed by the community is not appropriate, only the dosage of community assumptions, resulting in negative impacts. Chronic hyperglycemia causes worsening of the Ankle Brachial Pressure Index (ABPI) score. Giving red betel extract with the right dose can be a solution, because red betel extract contains flavonoids that can inhibit y-amylase and y-glucosidase so that the body can control blood sugar levels and improve ABPI scores. Purpose: To determine effectiveness of red betel extract on fasting blood sugar levels and ABPI. Method: A quasy experiment approach, specially focusing on pretest and posttest group. The study took place from October-November 2024, in Padangsari and Srondol Health Centers, Semarang. The independent variable was red betel leaf extractthe dependent variables is fasting blood sugar levels and ABPI. Using purposive sampling and Lemeshow formula, 70 respondents were selected which were divided into 2 groups, who met specific inclusion and exclusion criteria. Analysis proceeded with a univariate test to determine the frequency distribution of respondent’s characteristics, followed by bivariate analysis using man whitney test. Results: Red betel leaf extract significantly reduced blood sugar levels in patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus with an intervention value of 112.83 ± 15.227 compared to control of 191.46 ± 72277 with a large Cohen's d effect of 0.87 and increased the value of the Ankle Brachial Pressure Index or ABPI in the intervention group by 0.855 ± 0.045 compared to control by 0.674 ± 0.094 with a large d effect of 1.22 These findings suggest that red beet extract has potential as an adjuvant therapy in glycemic control and improvement of peripheral circulation. Conclusion: Betel leaf extract has been shown to be effective in reducing fasting blood sugar levels and improving Ankle Brachial Pressure Index (ABPI) scores in patients with type II diabetes mellitus.
