Abstract

Vocabulary mastery is one of the most important in learning Japanese. Lack of mastery of vocabulary will make students look less active when teaching and learning activities take place. The purpose of this study is to determine the effectiveness of the crossword puzzle in increasing the mastery of Japanese vocabulary. This research is an experimental study with a Posstest-Only Control Group Design model. The data generated in this study are quantitative data obtained form the results of the post test in class A as an experimental class and class B as a control class. The results of data analysis showed that the level of mastery of vocabulary in the experimental class using crossword puzzles, was higher than the control class using conventional media in the form of lecture activities using textbooks. In addition, The atmosphere of the learning by using crossword media is more interesting and fun. This is confirmed by the average results of the vocabulary test scores in the experimental class at 85.87, while in the control class at 74.8.

Abstract

Students of Japanese Literature typically encounter challenges in verbalizing the Japanese language. Implementing an independent learning curriculum alongside the Project Based Learning model can facilitate students' proficiency in spoken Japanese, as it enables them to comprehend information, select themes, and actively engage in addressing their speaking challenges autonomously. This project, funded by LPPM Unsoed Skim project on Competency Improvement, aims to assess the enhancement of speaking skills among Japanese Literature students and identify the challenges they encounter. This study employs an experimental research methodology utilizing the One Group Pretest-Posttest Design. The tools employed for data collection include the speaking skills assessment rubric and interview instructions to identify speaking challenges. Data gathering methodologies encompass (1) oral assignment approaches, (2) observation, and (3) interviews. Qualitative observation data are evaluated utilizing the Miles and Huberman analytical framework, which encompasses data reduction, data display, and verification and conclusions. The study's results indicated that the speaking proficiency of Japanese Literature students who engaged in Project Based Learning surpassed that of their counterparts in conventional learning models, and the students' speaking challenges were identifiable.

Abstract

Salah satu upaya peningkatan pelayanan oleh pihak desa wisata Melung adalah dengan membuat pojok bahasa asing yang dapat digunakan oleh sumber daya masyarakat (SDM) setempat dan pelaku wisata serta wisatawan asing. Permasalahan yang dihadapi oleh pihak desa melung adalah keterbatasan SDM dalam kompetensi bahasa asing dan pengembangan desa wisata. Oleh sebab itu, diperlukan adanya pojok bahasa asing yang dapat diakses oleh SDM setempat dan wisatawwan asing dalam mengembangkan wisata desa. Tujuan dari kegiatan pengabdian ini adalah: a) Memberikan fasilitas pojok bahasa asing di bidang pariwisata; b) Meningkatkan pelayanan di desa wisata Melung dalam mengembangkan desa wisata. Metode yang digunakan dalam kegiatan pengabdian ini adalah dengan memberikan pendampingan pendirian pojok bahasa asing di bidang pariwisata yang dapat diakses oleh SDM setempat dan wisatawan asing. Pengukuran dilakukan dengan tanya jawab dengan menggunakan guideline yang dilakukan di awal sebagai analisa situasi dan di bagian akhir sebagai evaluasi.
