Abstract

Water pollution issues and clean water needs have forced developing countries, such as Malaysia. Relating to clean water demand for covering human activities, water quality index determine several water parameter that presents pollution problem in water. As a water source, clean water in river is a critical concern. River water quality is according to natural process and anthropogenic activities. River water is potential to be contaminated by industrial, domestic and agricultural activities. Thus, in this study, water quality and availability in Manik Urai, Durian and Geh rivers were reviewed. Each pollutants was investigated, for instance BOD, COD, DO, SS, and pH. Range of river water flow was also examined. Total water demand was mentioned. In addition, the impacts of drought in 1990-2016 were assessed. However, review resulted that climate change has severe impact in water supply system.

Abstract

The increase in population number resulting in a higher clean water demand. Meanwhile water pollution from human activities continue to occur decreasing the quality of surface water sources. Another problem is seawater intrusion that contaminating the ground water. This study aims to suggesting the right innovation to resolve clean water crisis in Indonesia. Various technology such as Multi-Effect Distillation (MED), Multi-Stage Flash Distillation (MFD), Vapor Compression (VC), Reverse Osmosis (RO), and Electrodialysis have been developed. Another alternative is biodesalination process using mangrove, bacteria, and the combination of both mangrove and bacteria. Labuan Bajo village as one of the nation’s tourism destination, has a poor clean water supply system. From the discussion of this case study can be conclude that RO can be used as desalination technology for domestic and non-domestic clean water supply in Labuan Bajo village. The village can utilize Batu Gosok beach as the raw water resource. Desa Labuan Bajo dapat menggunakan Pantai Batu Gosok sebagai sumber air baku. The production debit that is needed to supply domestic and non-domestic clean water is 720 m3/day. Based on the study result the suitable desalination to be implemented in Labuan Bajo village in reverse osmosis.

Abstract

Meningkatnya harga pakan ternak dan kebutuhan hewan ternak seiring dengan perkembangan populasi dunia menuntut adanya sumber alternatif pakan ternak yang andal. Sumber pakan ternak yang konvensional tidak lagi dapat diandalkan karena lahan pertanian yang terus menyusut seiring bertambahnya penduduk dengan segala dinamikanya. Sampah makanan, sebagai komponen utama sampah, dapat dijadikan sumber pakan ternak yang layak. Melalui fermentasi menggunakan air cucian beras dan air dedak, dengan penambahan dedak untuk menjaga kadar air, proses fermentasi menghasilkan pakan setelah minimal lima hari. Keberhasilan fermentasi ditandai oleh aroma menyerupai tapai dan munculnya jamur putih pada permukaan sampel. Hasil percobaan menunjukkan bahwa air cucian beras maupun air dedak lebih efektif dibandingkan EM4, dan keduanya lebih baik dibandingkan NTJ.
