Abstract

Pantai Kelapa di Kabupaten Tuban, Jawa Timur, dikelola oleh POKDARWIS dengan berbagai fasilitas dan aktivitas. Namun, peningkatan jumlah pengunjung telah menyebabkan masalah timbulan sampah yang belum terkelola baik. Untuk mengatasi ini, rencana program pengabdian kepada masyarakat yang fokus pada pengelolaan sampah dan pemanfaatan produk sampah untuk meningkatkan pendapatan dan menjaga lingkungan. Hal ini juga sejalan dengan Tujuan Pembangunan Berkelanjutan Pembangunan Berkelanjutan (TPB) atau yang biasa disebut SDGs (Sustainable Development Goals). Tujuan dari pengabdian kepada masyarakat di Wisata Pantai Kelapa adalah mengatasi masalah sampah melalui pengelolaan sampah. Survei dan penghitungan timbulan sampah dilakukan pada 6 lokasi yang berbeda. Sampling dan pengukuran berat serta volume sampah dilakukan pada masing-masing area. Pada area pertama memiliki timbulan sampah terbanyak, didominasi oleh sampah kelapa karena terdapat wahana dan food court. Pada area kedua memiliki densitas sampah tertinggi, khususnya dari sisa makanan. Sementara itu, area 4 memiliki jumlah timbulan sampah paling sedikit karena hanya memiliki kolam renang yang jarang dikunjungi. Berdasarkan hasil survei menunjukkan bahwa area 1 (wahana dan food court) memiliki timbulan sampah tertinggi sebesar 994,8 kg, diikuti oleh area 2 (musholla) dengan 562,95 kg. Total timbulan sampah adalah 2600,04 kg per hari dengan densitas tertinggi terjadi di area 2, yaitu 11940.71 kg/m3. Sampah yang paling banyak adalah serpihan buah kelapa, sisa makanan, sampah kebun, dan sampah kayu.

Abstract

Fisheries activities produce wastewater with high levels of BOD, COD, and TSS that are dangerous if discharged directly into the river. One of the treatments that can be done is by using phytotreatment or processing using plants. The plants used in this study are Salvinia molesta and Pistia stratiotes. The stages of this research are propagation, acclimatization, range finding test, and phytotreatment test stage. The fisheries sector wastewater used in this study came from UPT Pasar Gresik with a pH of 6.54, BOD 310 mg/L, COD 853.3 mg/L, TSS 590 mg/L and UPT Pasar Giri wastewater with a pH of 6.48, BOD 292 mg/L, COD 746.6 mg/L, TSS 440 mg/L. Based on the RFT test, Pistia stratiotes is able to survive at a concentration of 20% for Gresik Market wastewater and 40% for Giri Market wastewater while Salvinia molesta can survive at a concentration of 10% for Gresik Market wastewater and 10% for Giri Market wastewater. From the phytotreatment test, the results obtained for the removal of BOD, COD, and TSS parameters in Giri Market wastewater, Pistia stratiotes plants are more effective in reducing BOD levels by 84.6% and COD 80.6% while for TSS levels Salvinia molesta plants are more effective with a removal of 89.8%. Then for the removal of BOD, COD, and TSS parameters in Gresik Market wastewater, Pistia stratiotes plants are more effective in reducing BOD levels by 92.4% and COD 84.4% while for TSS levels Salvinia molesta plants are more effective with a removal of 90.9%.

Abstract

This study examined the synthesis of nano-MgO via a precipitation method involving technical-grade magnesium chloride (MgCl2) as the starting material and ammonium hydroxide (NH4OH) as the precipitating agent. The objective of this study was to fine-tune the synthesis procedure by altering the concentration of NH4OH (0.5% and 1%) and to assess the properties of the resulting nanoparticles in terms of their suitability for applications. The properties of the synthesized nano-MgO were identified using X-ray fluorescence (XRF), X-ray diffraction (XRD), iodine number adsorption, and Brunauer-Emmett-Teller (BET) analysis to evaluate the oxides content, minerals formed and the crystallinity, adsorption capacity, surface area, and porosity. The findings show that, compared to 1%, a concentration of 0.5% NH4OH produced a superior MgO. A nano-MgO with 87.1% purities (of dominantly periclase phase), with an average crystallite grain size of 11.383 nm was formed. The iodine adsorption capacity of 243.01 mg/g, BET surface area of 43.4298 m2/g, and average pore diameter of 9.0002 nm were achieved, indicating formation of nanoporous structure, well-suited for a wide range of industrial use. Whereas when using 1% NH4OH, the purity only reached 83% (of the same dominant phase) with an average crystallite grain size of 11.691 nm, and iodine number of 197.98 mg/g. This research findings indicate that the precipitation method using 0.5% NH4OH is the effective method for producing high-quality nano-MgO from technical grade precursor with improved adsorption capabilities and suitability for large-scale fabrication. Abstract

The spread of hydrocarbon contamination in the form of oil-contaminated soil originates from waste from drilling and oil production. Hydrocarbon contaminants are categorized as hazardous and toxic waste (B3) that has long been deposited in the soil, disrupting the soil ecosystem and the groundwater cycle. Remediation of oil-contaminated soil is carried out using ex-situ bioremediation technology. Oil-contaminated soil is excavated using heavy equipment, collected at the contaminated site, and then transported to a licensed B3 waste treatment facility. The study aims to evaluate the degradation of Total Petroleum Hydrocarbon (TPH) over time using biostimulation and bioaugmentation methods to meet the success parameters of the quality standards for the Total Concentration (TK) of long-chain Petroleum Hydrocarbon (PH) (with a PH value TK-B 0.5% (5000 mg/kg). Biostimulation uses urea fertilizer as a source of N and SP-36 fertilizer as a source of phosphorus with treatment variations of C:N:P ratios of 100:10:1 and 100:5:1. Bioaugmentation uses variations in the treatment of indigenous bacteria that are naturally available in contaminated soil and variations with the addition of non-indigenous bacteria from bacterial cultures. The results of the study showed that the fastest bioremediation time to achieve the success parameters of the quality standards was 28 days with an average degradation rate of 3%/day. The 2-factor Analysis of Variance (ANOVA) statistical test with 4 replications produced a P-value = 0.257 ( 0.05) so that the C:N:P ratio did not have a significant effect on the decrease in concentration. TPH. The C:N:P ratio of 100:5:1 showed a higher percentage of TPH degradation compared to the C:N:P ratio of 100:10:1. There was no significant difference in the rate of TPH degradation between the treatment variations of indigenous bacteria and mixing with non-indigenous bacteria. The approach to calculating the population spike of non-indigenous bacteria mixing using logarithmic units showed a population spike of 0.06 log10 (1.14 times) 0.5 log10 (3.16 times). The non-indigenous bacterial inoculum survived but did not dominate the degradation pathway due to bacterial competition and a single dose that was too low. Environmental parameters such as pH, humidity and temperature were in ideal conditions during the study.

Abstract

Water pollution issues and clean water needs have forced developing countries, such as Malaysia. Relating to clean water demand for covering human activities, water quality index determine several water parameter that presents pollution problem in water. As a water source, clean water in river is a critical concern. River water quality is according to natural process and anthropogenic activities. River water is potential to be contaminated by industrial, domestic and agricultural activities. Thus, in this study, water quality and availability in Manik Urai, Durian and Geh rivers were reviewed. Each pollutants was investigated, for instance BOD, COD, DO, SS, and pH. Range of river water flow was also examined. Total water demand was mentioned. In addition, the impacts of drought in 1990-2016 were assessed. However, review resulted that climate change has severe impact in water supply system.
