Abstract

Online media journalist profession demands professionalism as stated in the 2011 Journalist Code of Ethics, Press Law No. 40/1999 and the 2012 Cyber Media Guidelines. The researcher observed news as a journalistic work as well as evidence to illustrate the professional performance of journalists by applying the deontological theory as an analytical tool. The method in this study focused on the semantic and syntactic aspects of 1149 original news stories produced by three online media sites, 362 items from detik.com, 458 from kompas.com and 329 from republika.co.id from June 2014 to May 2017. The study shows that language is modified to trick the audience and satisfy the owner, political and economic interests. Besides, online media journalists “deprive” the parties named in the news reports of their right to clarify. Statistically, 262 news items from detik.com, 264 from kompas.com and 163 from republika.co.id are not objective. In addition, online media always commit linguistic mistakeswith intensity of 4-6 times in every 150-250 words of a single news item.

Abstract

Understanding the materials and keeping motivated are challenges for elementary students in learning the Indonesian language. It happened due to a lack of learning resources. Previous studies mentioned that local learning resources can stimulate students' comprehension, specially forming colorful visualization. Therefore, the present research observes how to develop teaching material of caricatures adopted from the folklore "Sang Piatu," by employing problem-based learning (PBL). The current research aims to boost students' interest in learning, improve students' material comprehension of Indonesian language learning, and foster cultural awareness. The research method employed is Research and Development using the ADDIE model. This research contributes significantly to developing Indonesian language teaching materials at the elementary school level. The result demonstrates the approach's effectiveness in stimulating learning interest and improving students' understanding of the material, including increasing cultural awareness. Future studies could explore the potential of other folk stories from Indonesia. The upcoming studies could also integrate application technology to enhance student engagement in the era of Society 5.0.

Abstract

The demands of the 21st century have reshaped the educational landscape, particularly in mathematics, requiring students to acquire relevant competencies. However, many elementary students find abstract mathematical concepts challenging, highlighting the need for effective instructional materials. This study employed a Research and Development (R&D) approach using the ADDIE model. Data were collected through questionnaires and multiple-choice tests, and the analysis was conducted using descriptive statistics and inferential analysis. Instructional materials integrating Problem-Based Learning (PBL) with a differentiated approach were designed and evaluated for validity, practicality, and effectiveness in teaching the perimeter and area of squares and rectangles to fifth-grade elementary students. Teacher and student feedback indicated that the materials were highly practical, and no significant obstacles were encountered. The analysis of student learning outcomes showed a significant improvement in mathematics achievement. These results imply that differentiated PBL materials can enhance students' learning experiences and outcomes, providing a viable solution for addressing individual learning needs in mathematics education. By providing relevant and tailored materials, educators can more effectively address abstract learning challenges and meet the demands of 21st-century competencies.
