Abstract

Ne’ Balungkur represents the inherited living value of traditional paddy farming lived by Dayak Kanayatn. Concerning the ecofeminism ideology, this study aims to reveal the existence of women and nature in traditional paddy farming in Ne’ Balungkur folklore in relation to the cultural-value system. Enriching the ecofeminism perspective in this study, the community prominent figure of the Dayak Kanayatn community was interviewed to give triangular validity to the data interpretation. Exhibiting comprehensive ecofeminism analysis to show the representation of woman empowerment through Dayak Kanayatn's code of conduct in planting to harvesting paddy is the main contribution of this study. Ne’ Balungkur demonstrates how women of the Dayak Kanayatn tribe are respected for their roles in traditional paddy farming and cultivation. This woman’s role in Ne’ Balungkur folklore challenges the customary male supremacy in Indonesian agriculture. This study is also able to identify the pattern of the cultural-value system. The pattern of the domain, taxonomy, componential, and cultural theme analysis shows that the current religious system, which blends ritual, custom, and religion into a single thought, has always been entwined with culture and education. Numerous opportunities for incorporating local folklore especially from West Borneo into official educational contexts are suggested by this study

Abstract

The present study delves into the types of slip of the tongue occurring in formal speaking class accompanied by somatic anxiety and strategies to reduce it. The research employed a qualitative approach through students' observation of simulation, survey, and in-depth interviews. The participants were 91 students of the English language program joining the formal speaking class. The data were analyzed using the theory of slip of the tongue and the framework of somatic anxiety. The result revealed four types of tongue slips found in the formal speaking class: addition, substitution, perseveration, and repetition. The students with somatic anxiety produced more slip of the tongue than the non-anxious students. Substitution is the most dominant error produced by students. Most substitutions occurred due to the phonological similarity effect either in the mother tongue or in the target language. The findings also reported that the slip of the tongue was accompanied by somatic symptoms such as cardiopulmonary symptoms, musculoskeletal, gastrointestinal, and general symptoms. Students mostly experience cardiopulmonary symptoms palpitations, heavy sweating or perspiration, and nausea followed the symptoms. In addition, the internal factors that contributed to the slip of the tongue were fear of the stage, lack of confidence, and shyness factor. Finally, music therapy is perceived to be effective in alleviating the students' somatic symptoms and speech errors.

However, the generic structure of PD is seldomly being the perspective of linguistics studies. The paper aims at scrutinizing the genre of USA Presidential debate using the genre analysis framework proposed by Swales and Bhatia. Thus, the study employs two parts of genre analysis: move, and strategies analysis. The present study finds that there are six moves of USA PD namely greetings-informing the debate format, introducing the topic, thesis, argumentation, and closure. The communicative purpose of the moves is persuading the American voters in the election day. The finding implies pivotal stages of PD to construct political discourse. This study is expected to contribute to EFL teaching and learning especially in teaching genre exposition integrated in four English skills.

Abstract

Vocabulary skills. While previous research has demonstrated the effectiveness of the Duolingo app in enhancing vocabulary acquisition, studies focusing on students’ learning experiences remain limited. A pre-research survey indicated that Duolingo is the most preferred application for independent vocabulary learning. This study explores the experiences of eighth-semester students in learning English vocabulary using Duolingo, focusing on cognitive, affective, and behavioral aspects. A qualitative case study method was employed, with data collected through questionnaires and semi-structured interviews involving students from the Faculty of Teacher Training and Education in a private university in West Kalimantan. The findings underscore the importance of integrating mobile technology as a standalone, enjoyable, and meaningful tool for vocabulary learning.
