Abstract

The diesel engine is a vital component that serves as the ship's main propulsion system. This engine plays a crucial role in the efficiency and operational stability of the ship. One of the important parts of a diesel engine is the governor, which functions to regulate the engine's rotational speed to keep it stable. Problems with the governor can cause engine speed instability, leading to operational issues, reduced fuel efficiency, and a higher risk of damage. The study uses observational methods to identify the main causes of engine speed instability due to governor failure. Basic data include measurements and observations, maintenance history, and records of past failures. Observations on engine speed instability caused by governor failure focus on electrical issues, material wear, and extreme temperatures. This research emphasizes the importance of good and routine maintenance for the governor. Maintenance includes regular inspections, electrical maintenance, and the replacement of worn components. The research results are expected to provide practical recommendations for ship technicians to improve maintenance activities and address diesel engine speed instability issues. Implementing the findings of this research is expected to enhance the overall safety and operational efficiency of the ship

Abstract

Ships are water transportation tools used in the sea, rivers, or lakes for various purposes such as transporting goods, passengers, and fishing. Ships generally use power from engines, such as diesel engines to drive the propellers that propel the ship in the water. The problem experienced by the author when carrying out sea practice for one year (July 2023 - July 2024), on the main engine of the MT. Transko Bima ship is the entry of coolant into the cylinder, which can have a negative impact on the performance of the main engine. Therefore, this study aims to analyze the causes of the entry of coolant into the main engine cylinder on the MT. Transko Bima ship. The research method used is a case study with a descriptive qualitative approach. Data were obtained through direct observation, interviews with engine crews, literature studies and documentation during sea practice on the MT. Transko Bima ship. The results of the study showed that damage to the exhaust valve seat was the main cause of the entry of coolant into the cylinder. This problem has an impact on the engine experiencing corrosion, water hammer, and can cause further damage if not handled immediately. Repair efforts include replacing damaged components and routine maintenance of the cooling system to prevent overheating. This research is expected to contribute to ship engine crews in handling similar problems and improving the reliability of ship operations.

Abstract

Pengabdian masyarakat ini bertujuan untuk mensosialisasikan keselamatan kerja pada nelayan serta memberikan penjelasan tentang pengelolaan hasil tangkap ikan oleh nelayan. Pendekatan dilakukan dengan metode ceramah materi dan sosilaisasi penggunaan alat-alat keselamatan pelayaran. Pengabdian kepada masyarakat ini diharapkan dapat memberikan pengetahuan yang mendalam kepada para nelayan khususnya nelayan desa Margorejo Kecamatan Cepiring Kabupaten Kendal, agar dapat menganstisipasi keadaan darurat selama dalam pelayaran dan setelahnya bisa mengolah hasil tangkapnya untuk memenuhi kebutuhan pangan dan pemenuhan kebutuhan ekonomi yang lainnya.

Abstract

Electrical installations need to be installed correctly by referring to the basic guidelines, namely the General Guidelines for Electrical Installation (PUIL) for the country of Indonesia, or referring to other guidelines with international standards, namely the International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC) and IEEE. Electrical installations must have a protection system, high reliability when operating, and the ability to respond to installation disturbances quickly. The protection system provides safety for living things, property, and the electrical installation itself. The grounding system is one of the protections to maintain the reliability of the installation and protect the safety of personnel, the grounding system serves to ensure a stable and safe power supply voltage. This study discusses the grounding system, namely grounding resistance (GR), and its relation to the grounding rod material and soil resistivity (SR). The writing of the paper used a qualitative descriptive method, the basic supporting material was carried out with a literature review and references to previous research. The assessment of the two components aims to produce a good grounding system with economical design and maintenance costs, it is stated that the grounding rod material and soil resistivity are important factors for the grounding installation system.

Abstract

PLTU di Indonesia mayoritas digunakan steam boiler untuk memutarkan turbin generator, batu bara sebagai bahan bakar utama sistem pembakaran steam boiler. Proses transport batu bara dari dermaga (jetty) ke furnace boiler digunakan jalur conveyor belt tertutup. Debu halus batu bara mengandung gas CH4, CO, dan light fuel dalam zat terbang sesuai peringkat batubara. Debu dengan viscosity dibawah 50 g/m3, konsentrasi gas CH4, CO dan temperatur tinggi memicu terjadinya pembakaran sendiri (self combustion) hingga bahaya kebakaran. Penelitian ini dibahas tentang pengontrolan material batu bara dengan pendekatan logika fuzzy untuk menghindari bahaya self combustion. Metode penelitian deskripsi kualitatif dengan penyelesaian masalah skala laboratorium. Dasar keilmuan mengacu penelitian sebelumnya dan literatur review. Pendekatan logika fuzzy sebagai program tertanan di arduino board. Parameter input adalah konsentrasi CH4, CO, temperatur, dust viscosity dan water spray sebagai parameter output. Hasil penelitian dinyatakan bahwa faktor dominan self combustion adalah dust viscosity, konsentrasi gas CH4 dan CO. Coal dust viscosity berat dan dingin  mengurangkan konsentrasi flammable gas, sehingga  bahaya self combustion dapat dihindari.  Dust viscosity lebih dari 50g/m3 dan temperatur dibawah 60oC adalah kondisi aman dalam proses transport batu bara.
