Abstract

Background: Surgery induces changes in the body's tissue structure, triggering the body's recovery response to maintain balance (homeostasis). This process involves chemical reactions in the body that produce pain sensations in patients. Finger hold technique is a combination of deep breathing relaxation and grasping the fingers relatively quickly. The sensation experienced during the use of this technique provides a deeper sense of comfort and relaxation, as well as increasing tolerance to pain. Purpose:  To determine the outcomes of applying finger hold technique on laparatomy post-operative patients at the HCU Cempaka of Dr. Moewardi Regional General Hospital (RSUD) in Surakarta. Methods: The type of research is descriptive research in the form of a case study involving 2 postoperative patients. The research instrument uses the Numeric Rating Scale (NRS) to measure the pain scale. Results: The results of the study showed that before the application of finger grip therapy, Mrs. S obtained an NRS score of 8 (severe pain), while Mrs. N obtained an NRS score of 9 (severe pain). After the application of finger grip therapy for 3 consecutive days, Mrs. S obtained an NRS score of 3, likewise for Mrs. N after the application, an NRS score of 3 was obtained. Conclusion: After applying finger grip for 3 consecutive days on Mrs. S and Mrs. N, it can be concluded that there was a decrease in the level of pain in both patients from severe pain to mild pain.

Abstract

Tindakan operasi bedah telah menjadi komponen pelayanan kesehatan yang essensial pada banyak negara di dunia. World Health Organization (WHO) jumlah klien yang menjalani tindakan operasi mencapai angka peningkatan yang sangat signifikan setiap tahunnya.

Abstract

Curriculum management is a strategic component in ensuring educational quality, particularly in the context of vocational education such as Vocational High Schools (SMK). Changes in national education policy and the dynamics of industry demand an adaptive, participatory, and contextual curriculum management system. This study aims to uncover how the implementation of curriculum management at SMK Muhammadiyah 1 Bambanglipuro contributes to improving school well-being, encompassing the dimensions of teachers, students, facilities, and institutions. A qualitative approach with a phenomenological design was used to understand the direct experiences of educational stakeholders related to the curriculum management process at the school. Data were obtained through in-depth interviews, observations, and documentation studies with three main participants: the principal, the vice principal for curriculum, and teachers. The results indicate that the implementation of curriculum management reflects synergy with industry, adjustments to the Independent Curriculum, and ongoing teacher training. Collaborative practices, such as the Teaching Factory with industry partners (Astra, Daihatsu, Jogja TV), also support the achievement of school well-being, both professionally, materially, and institutionally. This study recommends strengthening the curriculum evaluation system and developing industry partnerships as sustainable strategies to improve school quality and well-being.

Abstract

Introduction: Patient density in the emergency room (ER) is a worldwide phenomenon and a major health-care issue. Because of the high degree of patient severity and the dynamic workflow, treating patients in the ER is frequently delayed. But, determining the need for nurses in the ER is difficult since patients arrive at random, including several complex situations, the quantity of patients, and the length of stay shifting greatly. This study aims to assess the emergency nursing staff need by determining the nurses' workload and patient dependency level in emergency room of the hospital using the baseline emergency staffing tool (BEST). Methods: A prospective observational research design was used in this study. A consecutive sample of 101 nurses selected in seven-day period in emergency department. The research was carried out in two government general hospitals situated in the provinces of Central Java and East Java. The BEST was used to estimate nursing staff requirement in emergency department and patient dependency was assessed using the Jones Dependency Tool (JDT). Results: Calculation of staff requirements in the ER of the first hospital has an average of 16 nurses, while the second hospital has an average of 30 people. The staffing challenges faced by these hospitals are significant, with a discrepancy of 3 nurses and 14 individuals in the ER. Based on the official hours, the highest number of staff needed in the evening and night while the relatively low number is in the morning. Conclusions: This gap in staffing might have an effect on how patient's outcomes and poses potential risks. To maintain the greatest standard of service, it is critical to account for changes in patient volume and alter staffing levels accordingly

Abstract

Background: Effective postoperative pain management is essential to enhance recovery, reduce complications, and improve patient comfort following major abdominal surgery such as laparotomy. Non-pharmacological interventions offer safe adjuncts to conventional analgesia, particularly in resource-conscious or multimodal pain management settings. Objective: This study aimed to evaluate the effectiveness of the finger grip relaxation technique in reducing pain intensity among post-laparotomy patients. Methods: A descriptive case study was conducted with two female patients diagnosed with colon cancer who underwent elective laparotomy at Flamboyan 5 Ward, Dr. Moewardi General Hospital, Surakarta, Indonesia. Pain intensity was assessed using the Numeric Rating Scale (NRS; 0–10) before and after the intervention. The finger grip relaxation technique, a simple, self-administered method involving rhythmic gripping and releasing of the fingers, was applied once daily for three consecutive days, with each session lasting 20 minutes. Results: Both patients exhibited clinically meaningful reductions in pain intensity following the intervention. Patient A’s NRS score decreased from 4 to 2, and Patient S’s score declined from 6 to 3, indicating a shift from moderate to mild pain levels. No adverse effects were observed. Conclusion: The finger grip relaxation technique is a feasible, non-invasive, and low-cost adjunctive strategy for managing acute postoperative pain after laparotomy. These preliminary findings support the integration of this approach into multimodal pain management protocols. However, larger controlled trials are warranted to confirm efficacy, determine optimal dosing, and assess broader clinical applicability.
