Abstract

Dengue hemorrhagic fever (DHF) is still a health problem in Indonesia. This study aims to determine the vector entomology index of Aedes spp mosquitoes in dengue endemic areas in the East Tanjungpinang District, Tanjungpinang City. The study was conducted in January-March 2020 with a cross sectional method. The research locations in DHF endemic areas are Batu 9 and Bulang villages. Entomological data were analyzed descriptively. The results showed that the value of the House index for Batu 9 was 45% and Kampung Bulang was 38.8%. The Containteir index value is 12.6% in Batu 9 and Kampung Bulang. The Breteau index value in Kelurahan Batu 9 was 76% and Kampung Bulang was 68%, while the Larva free rate in Batu 9 was 55% and 61% in Kampung Bulang Village. Density of dengue vector larvae based on HI, CI and BI in both DHF endemic villages is on a scale of 4-7 and is included in the medium and high risk categories. This explains that the entomological index in East Tanjungpinang District is still low, so it is necessary to control Aedes spp larvae by draining the bath, closing water storage, conducting mosquito nest eradication, and burying used goods so that they do not become a breeding place for DHF vectors.

Abstract

Dengue hemorrhagic fever (DHF) is a disease that is still a health problem in Indonesia caused by the dengue virus and is transmitted through the Aedes spp mosquito as the main vector that causes this disease. Tanjungpinang Timur District since January-December 2020 in the Pinang Kencana Village has recorded 52 positive right. The type and design of this study used observational research by conducting a descriptive analysis survey with a cross sectional study approach, the variables studied were the entomological index and the distribution of the Aedes spp mosquito vector. How to collect data by surveying larvae and taking the coordinates of the houses of DHF sufferers and their surrounding houses. The results of this study show that as many as 100 houses were surveyed, the House Index (HI) was 28%, the Container Index (CI) was 14% and the Breteau Index (BI) was 33%. The distribution of the presence of Aedes spp mosquito larvae is based on the coordinates of the house of dengue cases adjacent to the positive house of Aedes spp mosquito larvae in Pinang Kencana Village, Tanjungpinang Timur District. The conclusion of this study, based on the results of the entomological index, obtained a Density Figure (DF) in Pinang Kencana Village with a medium density category. Suggestions for the community to more attention cleanliness of controllable containers. Containers are most found larvae is bucket containers  inside house and bottle containers outside house. Suggestions for health agencies can be a reference in vector control and can further mobilize Mosquito Nest Eradication (MNE) and 3M Plus in Pinang Kencana Village, Tanjungpinang Timur District.

Abstract

Tiban Baru area is one of the endemic areas of Dengue Fever (DHF) in Batam City. Previous studies have reported nocturnal blood-sucking activities of Aedes spp mosquitoes in several regions in Indonesia. The behavioral change of the blood-sucking activity of Aedes spp mosquitoes may impact the transmission of dengue fever. The study aimed to determine the activity of Aedes spp, a vector of DHF in the Tiban Baru area, Batam City. The research was descriptive with a cross-sectional design. This study was conducted in 25 houses, with mosquito collection in the field using the resting mosquito collection method starting from 6:00 pm to 6:00 am.  Measurement of environmental parameters including temperature and humidity in the environment around the study.  The results stated that there was a change in the blood-sucking activity of Aedes spp mosquitoes from 16.00 to 17.00 to 18.00 to 21.00. The distribution of Aedes albopictus mosquitoes in the Tiban Baru area was 89.4% of the total Aedes spp mosquitoes collected with a Man Bitting Rate (MBR) value of 56.6%. The average temperature and humidity in the Tiban Baru area were 280C and 75%. Changes in the blood-sucking activity of Aedes spp mosquitoes can increase the risk of dengue transmission so efforts are needed for the prevention and control of dengue vectors in the study area.

Abstract

Clean and healthy living behaviours (PHBS) are habits practised by individuals or families that enable them to take independent action on health issues and play an active role in health initiatives both within the family and in the community. PHBS can start with oneself and one's family through clean and healthy habits in daily life. The implementation of PHBS is also an important step in preventing various diseases in children, especially diseases that are difficult to prevent, one of which is stunting. The target audience for this outreach programme was housewives in Kampung Sidomulyo RT 002/RW 13. The outreach programme was conducted through presentations and discussions. Before the outreach programme was implemented, a pre-test questionnaire was administered to determine the level of knowledge about PHBS related to stunting. Then, outreach material on household PHBS and clean water was provided. Following the presentation of the material, a discussion session and post-test were conducted to assess the level of understanding of the material provided. The results of the respondents' knowledge before the PHBS counselling (pre-test) were 5.12%, and the results of the respondents' knowledge after the PHBS counselling (post-test) were 5.94%. Socialisation of PHBS to housewives has been proven to increase their knowledge about the importance of implementing clean and healthy living behaviours in the household environment. This increased understanding plays an important role in encouraging the adoption of daily healthy habits, which not only maintain family hygiene and health, but also serve as a strategic step in preventing stunting in children. With better knowledge, housewives can play an active role as the main drivers of family and community health.
