Abstract

Social media has changed the way individuals construct self-image, particularly through posts about physical activities such as exercise. This study aims to analyze the influence of Fear of Missing Out (FOMO) and lifestyle on self-representation on social media, with exercise activity as a mediating variable. This study used a quantitative, explanatory approach and involved 200 respondents from Generation Z and millennials who actively share exercise activities on Instagram and TikTok. Data analysis was conducted using Structural Equation Modeling based on Partial Least Squares (SEM-PLS). The results show that FOMO has no direct influence on self-representation, but does have an indirect influence through exercise activity. Conversely, lifestyle has both direct and indirect effects on self-representation. Exercise activity proved to be a significant mediator in shaping digital self-image. These findings confirm that self-representation on social media is not only driven by social pressures such as FOMO, but also by engagement in meaningful, real-life activities. This research contributes to the study of digital consumer behavior, as well as practical implications for lifestyle and community-based marketing strategies.

Abstract

Abstract

This study explores the development of Islamic character values through the implementation of a case method–based learning model in Islamic Religious Education (PAI) at the university level. The research highlights three fundamental pillars of character formation: curricular learning, the establishment of a religious campus culture, and character reinforcement through co-curricular activities. Within the curricular aspect, character values are integrated through systematic instructional planning, including syllabus development, course design, and the use of Islamic civilization materials as contextual learning resources. The study also emphasizes the strategic role of the campus mosque as a practical learning space and cultural symbol that represents the integration of Islamic teachings with Indonesian local culture. The case method enables meaningful learning experiences by engaging students in problem-solving activities grounded in real socio-religious issues and by encouraging the examination of scriptural evidence within contemporary contexts. Digital learning media, interactive multimedia, and authentic assessment techniques—such as observation, self-assessment, peer assessment, worship journals, and interviews—are utilized comprehensively in the evaluation process. The findings indicate that this approach effectively enhances students’ religious literacy, critical thinking abilities, and social character, particularly in responding to the challenges of the disruption era. In conclusion, the case method–based PAI learning design offers a progressive, humanistic, and value-oriented pedagogical framework that contributes significantly to the revitalization of Islamic education management. This approach not only strengthens students’ abilities in problem-solving and religious practice but also provides a strategic foundation for advancing character education in higher education institutions.

Abstract

Higher education Islamic Religious Education plays a strategic role in shaping students who not only understand Islamic teachings conceptually but also internalize spiritual values in their daily lives. However, learning practices in universities often emphasize cognitive understanding rather than the integration of cognitive and affective dimensions. This study aims to analyze the implementation of mind mapping in the “Manusia Bertuhan” (Human as a Theistic Being) learning material to integrate students’ cognitive understanding and spiritual awareness in the Management Study Program, Faculty of Economics and Business, Universitas Negeri Makassar, Indonesia. The study employed a quantitative approach using a quasi-experimental design with a one-group pretest–posttest model. The participants consisted of 38 management students enrolled in the Islamic Religious Education course in the 2025/2026 academic year, selected through purposive sampling. Data were collected through cognitive tests, a spiritual awareness questionnaire using a Likert scale, observation sheets of student engagement, and assessment rubrics for mind mapping products. Data analysis included descriptive statistics, normality testing, paired sample t-test, normalized gain (N-gain), correlation analysis, and effect size calculation (Cohen’s d) using SPSS. The findings revealed significant improvements in both cognitive and affective domains after the implementation of mind mapping. The mean cognitive score increased from 67.4 to 82.6, while spiritual awareness scores increased from 72.1 to 85.3. The paired sample t-test showed a significant difference (p < 0.001) with a large effect size (Cohen’s d = 0.87). In addition, correlation analysis indicated a positive relationship between cognitive understanding and spiritual awareness (r = 0.61, p < 0.01). These results suggest that mind mapping effectively supports the integration of knowledge and value internalization in Islamic Religious Education learning. The study implies that visual and student-centered learning strategies can strengthen both conceptual understanding and spiritual development of university students. Future studies may expand the design using control groups and broader academic contexts.
