Abstract

Abstract The aim of this research is to examine Aceh's culinary business strategy which emphasizes commodification and innovation in order to transform Islamic identity. Aceh's rich culinary heritage reflects the varied and diverse Islamic values that make it the home of Mecca. This study looks at how innovative menus, presentation and customer experience are used by Acehnese food companies to project a strong Islamic identity. This research methodology is qualitative with a descriptive analysis approach including direct observation of industrial operations, literature review, interviews with industry professionals in the culinary arts field, and documentation. The findings of this research show how creative culinary entrepreneurs in Aceh are actively implementing new ideas in preparing and serving food in a way that respects Islamic principles. In addition, the use of branding, MPU Aceh's halal certification, and the provision of places of worship all contribute to the commodification of Islamic identity and are important components of business strategy. The results of this research are that this change in Islamic identity is increasing the gastronomic appeal of Aceh, both among local people and visitors. This business plan is expected to uphold and preserve Aceh's Islamic culinary heritage and have a positive impact on regional economic growth. These results provide in-depth information for the growth of culinary businesses based on Islamic identity in a similar context. Abstract

Ideally, identity commodification can be an effective strategy in the development of the culinary business by utilizing local cultural and religious values as an attraction for consumers. However, in reality, significant challenges arise in the implementation of this strategy, especially related to cultural diversity and the dynamics of the global market. This study aims to analyze the application of identity commodification in the development of Acehnese culinary businesses, and compare it with the approach applied in Egypt. This article is a field study using a qualitative approach. The methodology employed includes descriptive analysis and comparative study. The research findings show that Aceh has successfully utilized its local identity, which is deeply rooted in Islamic culture, as an appealing culinary business strategy, with a strong halal guarantee even without official halal certification. A comparison with Egypt shows that, although both leverage cultural and religious identity, Aceh emphasizes the diversity of local cultures combined with religious values, while Egypt focuses more on preserving the authentic Arab-Islamic culinary traditions and history.

Abstract

Abstract This research explores the challenges faced by female influencers from Aceh in managing their digital identities on social media, considering the cultural shift towards a modern lifestyle that often conflicts with Islamic values. Although social media provides a space for expression, social and religious pressures invite identity conflicts. This study employs a virtual ethnographic approach to understand how Acehnese women blend religious principles with the demands of modern lifestyles. Using a descriptive qualitative and virtual ethnographic approach, the research examines the experiences of Acehnese female influencers in navigating their digital identities on social media. Through observations and in-depth interviews, this study investigates the interactions between cultural norms and hedonistic lifestyles in the conservative context of Aceh, leading to insights about self-representation. The findings indicate that Acehnese female influencers face significant challenges in reconciling traditional identities with modernity on social media. Despite exposure to hedonistic lifestyles, they strive to remain faithful to their religious and cultural values by creating positive and educational content. Community support is essential in creating an inclusive space that enables them to act as agents of change while maintaining a balance between modernity and tradition. The implications of this research highlight the need for community support to assist Acehnese female influencers in integrating traditional values into their digital content, thereby creating a balance between modernity and Islamic law.
