Abstract

Forest landscape management in the Wae Batu Merah Watershed (DAS) in Ambon City is a complex and urgent issue, given its strategic role in maintaining ecosystem balance, reducing natural disaster risks, and supporting the sustainability of natural resources for local communities. Forests in this watershed protect ecosystems from erosion and soil degradation and provide critical ecosystem services, such as clean water sources and biodiversity habitats. However, pressures from human activities, such as land-use changes, urbanization, and poorly planned management practices, have threatened the sustainability of forest landscape functions in this area. This study explores stakeholders' views and perceptions regarding forest landscape management in the Wae Batu Merah Watershed, Ambon City. This research employs in-depth interviews and field observations involving key stakeholders, such as the Forestry Department, the Provincial Forestry Technical Unit (UPTD) of Maluku, and the communities of Batu Merah and Soya villages. The results reveal that stakeholders’ perceptions of forest landscape management in the Wae Batu Merah Watershed fall within the moderate category regarding knowledge, understanding, and attitudes. These perceptions vary from full support to rejection. Support is generally associated with initiatives actively involving stakeholders and providing tangible benefits. Conversely, rejection arises when policies or management practices are perceived as harmful or insufficiently inclusive. These findings underscore the importance of collaborative and inclusive approaches to forest landscape management to achieve ecological and social sustainability in the Wae Batu Merah Watershed.

Abstract

Negeri Suli Maluku Province, has various natural and cultural tourism potentials that can be developed into leading tourist destinations. This study aims to identify the natural and cultural tourism potential in Negeri Suli and map the existing tourist attractions using Geographic Information System (GIS). The data used in this research consists of primary data, obtained through direct observation and interviews with local communities, and secondary data from relevant institutions. The analysis used a qualitative descriptive approach, with mapping performed using ArcGIS 10.6 software. The results of the study show that Negeri Suli has a variety of tourist attractions, including beach tourism, land-based natural tourism, and cultural tourism. The use of GIS in mapping tourism objects provides spatial visualization that can be used as a basis for developing a tourist village. This study recommends improving tourism infrastructure and digital-based promotional strategies to attract more tourists.

Abstract

Ambon City is the capital of Maluku Province, which is experiencing rapid growth, which can cause environmental degradation and even ecological damage. Therefore, there is a need for sustainable urban forest management as a way to increase green open space. This study aims to analyze urban forest management's technical and social aspects using rationalistic methods through interviews and observations. The assessment results of the three main criteria with assessment indicators show that the understanding of the parties related to urban forests (1168) is included in the high category (1130-1452). The results of the parties' assessment regarding the existence of urban forests based on their function (511) from the score range (368-513) and indicators of forest harmony and balance are in (score 575) from the score range (441 616), each total score is in the medium category. The results of the study technically and socially showed relatively good results. However, urban forest management towards sustainable forest development has yet to be optimally implemented sustainably.

Abstract

Most of the area in East Buru Utara Regency, Maluku Province are categorized as coastal lowlands, especially the Teluk Kayeli area. This area has the potential to be developed into a destination area for mangrove ecotourism destination due to its natural and preserved mangrove. The purpose of this study was to analyze the suitability of mangrove areas as an object of ecotourism attraction in Siahoni Village, Buru Utara Timur Regency, Maluku Province. The research approach is descriptive quantitative, using the survey method. Primary data including thickness, density, biota, and type of mangrove were collected through field observation at four observation stations, while secondary data including geographical condition, village monograph, and tide data were collected through literature study. Vegetation data were analyzed by measuring the relative density of each plant species and tourism suitability was analyzed by using tourism suitability index (TSI). Also, a SWOT analysis was also conducted to determine the strategy for developing mangrove ecotourism. Mangrove species observed in mangrove ecosystem at Teluk Kayeli, Siahoni Village consisted of Avicennia lanata, Sonneratia caseolaris, Bruguiera gymnorrhiza, Ceriops tagal, Nypa frutican, Rhizophora apiculata, Rhizophora mucronata, Rhizophora stylosa, Scyphyphora hydrophyllaceae, dan Xylocarpus granatum. The results showed that the TSI of mangroves at the observation station 1, 2, 3, and 4 were 65%, 72%, 72%, and 69%, respectively, and corresponded to the S2 category (suitable). Efforts to improve the suitability index of the mangrove area as an object of ecotourism attraction could be done through rehabilitation and reforestation, hence the environmental attraction and ecological function of the mangrove area could be improved. Abstract

Suli Village, Salahutu Sub District, Central Maluku Districts is one of the coastal villages located in the east and directly opposite Baguala Bay, Ambon Island. As a Coastal Village, Suli has various potentials for biological natural resources. This existing potential must be managed by taking into account the conservation aspects, namely, protection, preservation, and utilization, to remain sustainable. The problems that arise in Suli Village include the lack of sensitivity among the community to be able to manage the environment properly. If left unchecked, natural resources which are the potential for development will be damaged and cause other problems in society. This is a challenge in the management of natural resources and existing ecosystems because they must maintain a balance between meeting human needs and the sustainability of their use to support life in development. To realize sustainable development, one of the efforts that can be done is to implement conservation activities as mandated in Constitution Number 5 of 1990. One way to do this is to carry out community service activities. This activity aims to conserve natural resources and the biodiversity contain while at the same time encouraging the achievement of sustainable development goals starting from the smallest community groups. The activities carried out are socializing the importance of living natural resources and their conservation efforts, environmental problems due to waste, and encouraging environmental conservation activities by becoming a customer of a waste bank. Finally, this service activity also indirectly contributes to the achievement of several goals and targets in the SDGs. Among the goals achieved were the environmental pillars, especially Goal 13 (handling climate change) and Goal 15 (terrestrial ecosystems).
