Abstract

The purpose of this research was to determine changes in forest cover of Mount Sirimau Protected Forest in Ambon City which have been analyzed since 1990, 2000, 2006, 2011 and 2015. This research was conducted using analytical methods where satellite imagery of 5 different years in 1990, 2000 and 2006 recording years, 2011 and 2015 were interpreted digitally through supervised classification. After the interpretation, the mapping was carried out using ArGIS to analyze changes in forest cover. It is supported by the data from the Forest Monitoring Center of Ambon Area IX that had been obtained using ArGIS into primary data. The data were analyzed by using the digital analysis method or the maximum opportunity method. The results showed changes in land cover in 2000, 2006 and 2011 from areas of forest become agricultural land and in 2015 the area of agricultural land was changed into settlements areas. The augmentation of non-forest areas (Settlements) along the Toisapu hamlet and Soya villages up to 2015 for residential areas has reached 16,997 Ha with an average annual increase of 70.59 km2.

This study aims to analyze the social, economic and cultural characteristics of the community around the Mount Sirimau Protected Forest Group in Ambon City, Maluku Province. In this study, we use an interdisciplinary approach to understand the relationship between humans and the environment in the region. Data was collected through field surveys, interviews and literature studies. The results of the analysis show that communities around protected forests have a high dependence on natural resources provided by these forests as their main source of livelihood. They also have a rich culture, with a diversity of traditions, beliefs and cultural practices deeply rooted in their daily lives. However, this study also reveals the social and economic challenges faced by society, including limited access to public services and income inequality. The importance of community participation in protected forest management is also highlighted in this study. In conclusion, this study emphasizes the importance of a holistic approach in protected forest management, which takes into account social, economic, cultural and ecological aspects. Collaboration between government, non-government organizations and local communities is needed to formulate sustainable strategies to preserve protected forests and improve the welfare of surrounding communities.

Abstract

Suli Village, Salahutu Sub District, Central Maluku Districts is one of the coastal villages located in the east and directly opposite Baguala Bay, Ambon Island. As a Coastal Village, Suli has various potentials for biological natural resources. This existing potential must be managed by taking into account the conservation aspects, namely, protection, preservation, and utilization, to remain sustainable. The problems that arise in Suli Village include the lack of sensitivity among the community to be able to manage the environment properly. If left unchecked, natural resources which are the potential for development will be damaged and cause other problems in society. This is a challenge in the management of natural resources and existing ecosystems because they must maintain a balance between meeting human needs and the sustainability of their use to support life in development. To realize sustainable development, one of the efforts that can be done is to implement conservation activities as mandated in Constitution Number 5 of 1990. One way to do this is to carry out community service activities. This activity aims to conserve natural resources and the biodiversity contain while at the same time encouraging the achievement of sustainable development goals starting from the smallest community groups. The activities carried out are socializing the importance of living natural resources and their conservation efforts, environmental problems due to waste, and encouraging environmental conservation activities by becoming a customer of a waste bank. Finally, this service activity also indirectly contributes to the achievement of several goals and targets in the SDGs. Among the goals achieved were the environmental pillars, especially Goal 13 (handling climate change) and Goal 15 (terrestrial ecosystems).

Abstract

Mangrove ecosystems have an important role in supporting the life of living things. The physical benefits of mangrove ecosystems are that they resist sea abrasion, withstand salt-laden storms and winds, and bind pollutant substances (poisons) in coastal waters. Climate change that occurs causes many problems, including extreme seasonal changes that cause abrasion, and rising sea levels due to melting polar ice. The problems that occur do not only affect the big islands but are also very much felt in the archipelago, especially Maluku which has many small islands. Efforts to conserve mangrove ecosystems are needed to minimize the impact caused by the effects of global warming. Conservation of mangrove ecosystems can reduce 10 to 31% of the estimated annual carbon emissions from the land use sector in Indonesia. This community service activity aims to realize climate change mitigation efforts on small islands, specifically in Negeri Suli, Maluku Province. Climate change mitigation efforts in Suli State, Maluku Province are carried out by providing socialization related to the role of mangrove ecosystems and then planting mangroves by existing youth and youth. in the village. Monitoring efforts are carried out by forming groups to monitor the success of mangrove growth. Replanting is carried out if mangrove seedlings are damaged or carried away by the current.
