Abstract

In Indonesia, English is a compulsory subject that is learnt by students for the first time in junior high school. Although the teachers are expected to use English in the classroom, sometimes students do not understand the explanation. Code switching becomes a natural part of classroom interaction in foreign language classroom. Therefore, this study aimed to explain the use of code switching, students perceived the teachers’ code switching, the students respond to the teacher’s code-switching practices and the influence of teachers’ code-switching practices on students’ understanding in the teaching learning process. It was conducted at SMP N 1 Comal. The method used in this research was qualitative study. To get the data, researcher used observation, video recording, questionnaire and interview. The results of the study showed that first there were six functions of code switching in the foreign language classroom, those are to explain grammar, to manage classroom, to index a stance of empathy or solidarity, to translate words, to help students when they have difficulty in understanding and to emphasis some points. Second, the students preferred a combination of Indonesia and English in the classroom. Third, there were five responses from students in the teaching learning process, those were specific response, choral response, open-ended or students initiated response, silence and laughter. Fourth, teachers believed that code switching had positive influences in teaching English for their students.

Abstract

This study aimed to investigate the psychological factor influencing the students’ anxiety in speaking English. It used a descriptive qualitative approach. The data were acquired by using observation, open-ended questionnaires, and interviews. There were nine students in the second semester of ITB Adias Pemalang participating in this research. The data was analyzed through data reduction, display, and conclusion drawing established. The findings indicated that communication apprehension, test-anxiety, and fear of negative evaluation were three main factors causes of the students’ anxiety when speaking English. The findings of this research can be as a guide to examine the students’ anxiety during their studies in order to improve the students’ motivation and confidence when speaking the target language.

Abstract

Motivation is the internal or external drive that pushes individuals to take action toward a goal, whereas demotivation refers to the loss or lack of interest, energy, or willingness to continue an activity or pursue a goal. In Indonesia, English is considered a foreign language, and many students struggle with speaking fluently due to various factors, including a lack of interest. This study aims to explore the processes that cause demotivation in English classes, as well as how teachers implement their strategies during the learning process. This study employed a mixed-method approach with convergent parallel design, integrating quantitative and qualitative data. The researcher collected the data by using questionnaires and interviews. The questionnaire provided quantitative data, while the interviews offered deeper qualitative insights. This study involved students from first-semester non-English major at the Islamic University of KH. Ruhiat Cipasung. The results indicated that although many students initially lacked interest in learning English due to their limited proficiency, the majority agreed that the teacher’s methods and strategies positively influenced their understanding of the material. Several students experienced increased motivation but some still showed minimal engagement. ABSTRAK Motivasi adalah dorongan internal atau eksternal yang mendorong seseorang untuk melakukan tindakan menuju suatu tujuan, sedangkan motivasi merujuk pada hilangnya atau kurangnya minat, energi, atau kemauan untuk melanjutkan suatu aktifitas atau mencapai tujuan. Di Indonesia, bahasa Inggris dianggap sebagai bahasa asing, dan banyak siswa kesulitan berbicara dengan lancar karena berbagai faktor, termasuk kurangnya minat. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengeksplorasi proses yang menyebabkan demotivasi dalam kelas bahasa Inggris, serta bagaimana guru menerapkan strategi mereka dalam proses pembelajaran. Penelitian ini menggunakan metode campuran (mixed-method) dengan desain konvergen paralel, menggabungkan data kuantitatif dan kualitatif. Data dikumpulkan melalui kuesioner dan wawancara. Kuesioner memberikan data kuantitatif, sedangkan wawancara memberikan wawasan kualitatif yang lebih mendalam. Subjek penelitian ini adalah mahasiswa semester satu jurusan non-bahasa Inggris di Universitas Islam KH.Ruhiat Cipasung. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa meskipun banyak mahasiswa awalnya menunjukan sedikit minat dalam belajar bahasa Inggris karena kemampuan yang kurang, sebagian besar setuju bahwa metode dan strategi pengajaran guru berpengaruh positif terhadap pemahaman mereka terhadap materi. Beberapa siswa menunjukan peningkatan motivasi, meskipun sebagian dari mereka menunjukan keterlibatan yang kurang.

Abstract

Banyak upaya untuk yang perlu dilakukan terkait pengembangan suatu usaha dalam peningkatan laba usaha UMKM.  Penerapan strategi marketing dan pengelolaan sumberdaya manusia  menjadi pilihan untuk pencapaian tujuan yang dinginkan.  Strategi marketing produk dalam hal ini dijelaskan sebagai uraian rencana secara rinci yang berisikan tentang bagaimana cara mengenalkan maupun menjual sebuah produk yang bisa menarik konsumen potensial menjadi konsumen riil. Upaya ini dilakukan untuk memastikan bagaimana sebuah produk dapat dipasarkan secara efektif kepada satu target pasar tertentu.  Sedangkan pengelolaan sumberdaya manusia dalam pembagian tugas yang jelasakan menghasilkan output yang lebih optimal karena adanya speialisasi kerja.
