Abstract

Nowadays, psychological burnout is prevalent in all professions. The purpose of this study is to investigate the prevalence, causes, and consequences of burnout among non-government school teachers in Panchagarh. This study used an explanatory sequential mixed approach. A stratified random selection methodology was employed to pick 25 schools, and 242 teachers were chosen using a simple random sample procedure. Finally, a purposive sample technique was used to select 15 teachers. Data was acquired using a standardized questionnaire and in-depth interviews. The Maslach Burnout Inventory-Educator Survey (MBI-ES) was used to assess the prevalence of burnout. Data was analyzed by descriptive statistics and thematic analyses. The study found a high prevalence of burnout in non-government school teachers in Panchagarh, with 48.35% experiencing high emotional exhaustion, 51.24% high depersonalization, and 45.04% low personal accomplishment. Also, the study found that low salary are the most contributing factor to burnout. Furthermore, 78.6% of respondents agreed that teacher burnout has negative effects on student academic achievement. Finally, the presence of teacher burnout in education is a challenging issue, as it negatively affects every aspect of the learning and teaching process. This study has implications for policymakers to develop plans to reduce teacher burnout and enhance teachers’ overall well-being.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the influence of deep learning (DL) and problem based learning (PBL) on the active and independent learning of students with the mediation variable of self-regulated learning (SRL) at high school in Surakarta. The research method used was an explanatory quantitative approach with data collection through a closed questionnaire distributed to 157 students in grades X and XI. Data were analyzed using the structural equation modeling (SEM) approach SmartPLS 4.0 software. The analysis stage includes evaluating the measurement model (outer model) by testing convergent validity (AVE). Furthermore, the structural model (inner model) was analyzed by testing the path coefficient and significance using the bootstrapping method. Hypothesis testing was carried out with the ho rejection criterion if the p-value was < 0.05 and the t-statistic > 1.96. The results of the study show that deep learning and problem based learning have a significant effect on active and independent learning, both directly and through the mediation of self-regulated learning. All study variables met the criteria for validity and reliability, as indicated by AVE and Cronbach's alpha values above 0.5 and 0.7. The model fit index (SRMR = 0.089, and NFI = 0.931) confirms the fit of the proposed model. The results show that deep learning and problem based learning significantly affect active and independent learning through self-regulated learning strategies and are capable of enhancing students’ active involvement and independence in learning process.

Abstract

As the multimedia classroom gained enormous importance from the government of Bangladesh to modernize the educational system, this study initiated the objective to investigate the state of those classrooms at secondary schools. The study used a mixed-method approach with qualitative and quantitative data to explore the execution and possible improvements for those multimedia classes. Five secondary schools were selected purposively from each of the two districts named Sylhet and Cumilla. From these ten schools, hundred students and hundred assistant teachers were selected randomly to conduct ten focus group discussions (FGD) with each of the two groups. Moreover, ten interviews were conducted with the head teachers. Besides those, classrooms were observed while the multimedia was in use, along with a case study in a school. Although head teachers and assistant teachers mentioned many classes using multimedia, the students' words and observed class information gave alternative facts. Almost similar types of outcomes were found regarding digital content development, monitoring, and mentoring activities. While teachers were optimistic about the quality of digital content and classroom teaching, researchers found those to be less standard. In terms of monitoring the multimedia classroom, the majority of head teachers were more concerned about the number of multimedia used in the classroom due to administrative obligations than the quality.

Abstract

The study aims to investigate the issues embedded in the secondary-level teacher recruitment system from the structural perspective, which affect the motivation of the teaching profession, appointment and retention, and teacher development. The study applied the qualitative method and identified the issues that cause skill teacher shortage through causal relation analysis. The study used interviews with policymakers and administrators to identify the causes of the shortage of high-quality teachers in secondary institutions and discerned the solutions to ensure quality secondary education in Bangladesh. Adverse appointment and retention systems; and weak and stagnant teacher development facilities, were identified as the demotivating factors for taking the teaching profession. The solutions were found to enhance the attraction for teaching: firstly, by increasing salary, upholding teachers’ position in society and educational administration, and improving the working environment. The appointment and retention systems should be friendly by selecting and facilitating quality teachers. Lastly, a comprehensive and interconnected teacher development system should be initiated to ensure high-quality teachers at the secondary level.

Abstract

The use of ICT in teaching and learning processes at all levels was highlighted in Bangladesh's educational policy. According to studies, there are not enough secondary-level instructors in Bangladesh who are proficient in using digital technologies for instruction. The purpose of this research was to explore options for updating the teacher education curriculum by filling up any gaps found in the development of ICT-Pedagogy integration abilities. In this study, the TPACK framework was utilized to pinpoint curriculum gaps, and a mixed-method approach was used to achieve the study's goals. The curriculum was first examined to find any deficiencies, and then key informant interviews looked at potential updates to the curriculum that might fill those gaps. The study discovered a lack of proper teaching-learning methods and assessment, as well as clear objectives and topics on ICT and pedagogy integration. The study promoted a few approaches for teacher skill upgrades to improve their ability to teach with ICT.
