Abstract

Secang wood has strong antioxidant properties because it contains phenolic compounds such as flavonoids and brazilin. Also, red ginger has antioxidant derived from nonvolatile phenolic compounds. Until now, there has been no use of a combination of secang wood extract and red ginger specifically for the manufacture of effervescent tablets. The purpose of this study was to formulate an effervescent tablet by doing combination of secang wood and red ginger extracts with using various concentrations of citric and tartaric acids. The formulations conducted were three acid sources of 20%, 25%, 30%, using wet granulation. The evaluation subjected to the formulas included the physical properties of the granules, such as the water content and flow properties of the granules. Meanwhile, the evaluation performed to the tablet included the hardness test, tablet friability, weight uniformity, dissolution time, and acidity (pH). The analysis was carried out in accordance with the requirements of the Indonesian Pharmacopoeia Edition III and BPOM. The results obtained are effervescent tablet with an acid variation of 20% with physical quality values of water content of 2.91% and granule flow properties of 6.03 s. Meanwhile, the physical quality requirements of effervescent tablets were tablet hardness of 4.02 kp; tablet friability 0.46%; weight uniformity 0.132%; 71 s dissolution time; and 6.4 degrees of acidity.

Abstract

Currently, nanoparticles are one of the promising technologies and have been applied in various sectors. Silver nanoparticles is one of implementation in nanoparticles and have been applied in the industrial and medical. Green synthesis of silver nanoparticles is still in development. This method is carried out using plant extracts as bioreductors, because secondary metabolite compounds in extracts can reduce Ag+ ions into nanoparticle form. This study was conducted with the aim of determining the potential of Chrysophyllum caintio leaf extract as a bioreductor based on the UV-Vis sepctrophotometric instruments and to determine the potential of synthesized silver nanoparticles as antibacterial agents against Salmonella typhimurium through the disc diffusion method. The synthesis was carried out by volume ratio between kenitu leaf extract and AgNO3, 1:1, 1:2, 1:3, and 1:4. The result stated that the four variations have absorption in 422-465 nm. Where silver nanoparticles are formed can be known from the formation of peaks at a maximum wavelength of 400-500 nm. In a ratio of 1:2, a peak was formed at a wavelength of 453 nm with an absorbance of 0.758. Antibacterial activity in synthesized silver nanoparticles produced an inhibitory zone of 17.2 mm so it is classified as strong category.

Abstract

The synthesis of ZnO nanoparticles was conducted using a green synthesis method that utilizes plants as bioreductors. The secondary metabolites contained in the plants can act as bioreductors in the reduction process of metal oxides and as capping agents in the production of ZnO nanoparticles. This research aims to determine the characterization of ZnO nanoparticles using Syzygium cumini leaves extract as bioreductor. The type of research is experimental research. In this study, the characteristics of ZnO nanoparticles were examined using extracts from the leaves of the duwet tree (Syzygium cumini). Synthesis was performed with varying compositions of zinc acetate dihydrate solution and duwet leaf extract at ratios of 1:1, 1:2, 1:3, and 1:4, as well as pH levels of 7, 8, 9, and 10. The nanoparticles were then characterized using UV-Vis spectrophotometry and a Particle Size Analyzer (PSA) to determine the optimal conditions. The optimal conditions for synthesizing ZnO nanoparticles were obtained with a maximum wavelength (λmax) of 368 nm at a ratio of 1:2 and pH 8. The particle size distribution analysis from the PSA indicated an average size of 19.52 nm, with a Poly Dispersity Index (PDI) value of 0.2491. The analysis results using XRD showed the synthesized nanoparticles showed the typical peak for ZnO with 2θ values of 31,7680o, 34,3699 o, and 36,2281o, confirming that the synthesis of nanoparticles had successfully produced ZnO nanoparticles. The UV-Vis, FTIR, and XRD characterization results showed that the nanoparticles produced were pure ZnO nanoparticles.

Abstract

The noni (Morinda citrifolia L) is one of Indonesia’s traditional medicinal plants, which people have widely used to treat dysentery, hypertension, diabetes, and heart attacks and prevent cancer. The noni contains phenolic compounds, namely flavonoids, anthraquinones, alkaloids, and tannins, which have the potential to act as bioreductors. The research aims to synthesize copper nanoparticles (CuNPs) using noni leaves extract as a bioreductor and assay their antibacterial activity. CuNPs were synthesized by mixing noni leaf extract and copper sulfate in a 1:1, 1:2, 1:3, and 1:4 ratio. It was characterized using UV-Vis, PSA, FTIR, and XRD. Antibacterial activity was tested using the disc diffusion method on Streptococcus pyogenes. The results showed that the optimum synthesis of CuNPs was at a ratio of 1:3 and pH 10. CuNPs had a maximum UV-Vis absorption wavelength at 305 nm, an average particle size of 5.46 nm with a polydispersity index (PDI) of 0.2048, and the Cu-O peak was observed at 560 cm-1 in the FTIR spectrum. XRD measurements revealed peaks at 2θ angles of 43.38°, 50.50°, and 74.43°. CuNPs showed good potential as an antibacterial agent against Streptococcus pyogenes with an average inhibition zone diameter of 17.3 mm. Thus, copper nanoparticles synthesized using noni leaf extract bioreductor had the potential to be developed as an antibacterial agent for Streptococcus pyogenes.
