Abstract

Retinal vessel segmentation is part of the morphological extraction of retinal blood vessels that plays an essential role in medical image processing. Manual segmentation is possible to do, but it is time-consuming and requires special operators. Moreover, the possibility of variability between operators is vast. This study aims to answer the shortcomings of the manual segmentation process by automatically segmenting retinal blood vessels. The main contribution of this study is the use of a simple method to iteratively segment retinal blood vessels.  All processes in the segmentation are simulated using Matlab. The algorithm was evaluated by comparing the results of the automatic segmentation with 20 manually segmented images from the STARE dataset. The result show specificity 98.13%, accuracy 93.60%, sensitivity 56.42%, precision 80.48%, and the dice coefficient 64.06%. In conclusion, the automatic retinal blood vessel image segmentation process worked well.

Abstract

Stroke is an acute clinical event of focal or global neurological disorders associated with cerebral circulation disorders. A stroke usually lasts more than 24 hours and can lead to death with no known cause. Stroke is a disease in which blood cannot flow to the brain to supply oxygen and nutrients and cannot get rid of waste products. This causes brain cells to rapidly die. The success of stroke treatment management is very dependent on time. The sooner the first aid is given, the better the clinical outcome will be. Through these problems, technology is needed that can monitor the condition of stroke patients on a regular basis. The technology needed is primarily able to monitor several risk factors for stroke, namely blood pressure, cholesterol, pulse, and blood sugar using Photoplethysmograph (PPG) sensors and provide education in reducing these risk factors. This innovation has tested the function of the tool by measuring blood pressure, cholesterol, pulse, and blood sugar levels using an innovative tool compared to the results of laboratory measurements. The results of the measurement of innovation tools with blood pressure measurement accuracy of 95,78%, total cholesterol measurement accuracy of 96,88%, and blood sugar level measurement accuracy of 96,49%. Result of the monitoring application supported by the ANFIS system, the results of the classification of user conditions were obtained with an accuracy rate of 95 % in testing five patients who had high risk factors for stroke. Abstract

The prevalence of oral cancer reached 14,197 cases from 2015 to 2020 in Indonesia. On the other hand, delay in cancer treatment can be fatal. However, there are less than 5 specialist dentists in some provinces, and even zero in West Papua. Therefore, screening by Public Health Center nurse needed to reduce oral cancer mortality rate. This scientific article aims to design, create, and test an early detection system for oral cancer based on IoT-integrated fluorescence imaging that is practical, functional, and clinically innovative. The method started in literature study, system design, fabrication, operational and clinical testing, and evaluation. System’s function examination is done by measuring HPL LED temperature, object temperature, and ozone plasmatemperature. A clinical trial was conducted on six subjects with linea alba, RAS, mucocele, ameloblastoma, leukoplakia, and behcet syndrome. Functional test resulted in the system components remains in 28,4˚C, the illuminated object temperature does not over 24,8˚C within 10 minutes, thus there is no heat side effects damaging components and things, and also the ozone temperature does not over 29,5˚C within 10 minutes. Clinical tests obtained 100% true negative results in all subjects. The oral cancer early detection system has been successfully made and tested. Functional tests show that the system has good durability, and clinical tests show true negatives in normal mucosa and non-malignant lesions. Abstract

During the COVID-19 pandemic, online learning became an unavoidable impact. To adapt, students are increasingly using Personal Listening Devices (PLD) for their online learning needs. However, intensifying and frequent use of PLDs can increase the risk of noise-induced hearing loss, which happens due to noise causing a person's hearing threshold to increase by disrupting the hearing cells in their inner ear's organ of Corti. The objective of this research was to examine whether there exists a correlation between the PLD usage by medical students and their average high-frequency threshold and hearing loss incidence while they study online. A cross-sectional analytic observational design was employed in this study. The dataset was analyzed using Chi-square test. The results showed that the significance value (p value) of the student behavior with hearing threshold average was and hearing loss incidence as follows: the PLD usage (p=0.160, p=0.498); the length of PLD usage (p=0.452, p=0.071); the duration of PLD usage per day before the pandemic (p=0.895, p=0.309); the duration of PLD usage per day during the pandemic (p=0.957, p=0.428); the duration of PLD usage per week before the pandemic (p=0.764, p=0.796); the duration of PLD usage per week during the pandemic (p=0.811, p=0.942); the PLD volume (p=0.731, p=0.731); the time of PLD usage (p=0.812, p=0.092); the increased intensity of PLD usage (p=0.291, p=0.887); the PLD type (p=0.879, p=0.476); and PLD's noise reduction facilities (p=0.879, p=0.353). This study concludes that there is no influence of the PLD usage behavior among the medical students on high-frequency thresholds and hearing loss incidence during pandemic online learning. Abstract

Inequality of health care facilities, especially radiology resources, occurs in West Java Province. There are many class A hospitals in provincial capitals, while in areas far from the provincial capital and from DKI Jakarta Province, the quantity and quality of hospitals are still lacking. Likewise with the quantity of radio diagnostic instruments and human resources. 12 radiology specialists and an additional 192 radiographers are needed in West Java Province. Archiving and image communication systems (PACS) can be used as a solution so that health workers in hospitals located far from the city or district centers can consult, and expert conclusions can be obtained from radiology specialists at referral centers.
