Abstract

The feminization of poverty in Aceh Besar is a complex phenomenon in which women experience the impacts of poverty that are much more severe than men, although it is often not detected in statistical data. This study aims to identify the causes and impacts of poverty among women, with a focus on gender constructions that always position women in a vulnerable state. Although official poverty figures are often calculated based on male groups, women's experiences show that they bear a greater burden, both in terms of domestic responsibilities and in access to resources. Using a qualitative approach, this study collected data from in-depth interviews and focus group discussions with women in Aceh Besar, to explore their experiences related to education and poverty. The results show that education plays a key role in women's empowerment, as well as a tool for reducing poverty. Therefore, an emphasis on women's education and gender-based policies are crucial as solutions in addressing the feminization of poverty. This study suggests the need for more accurate and inclusive data to understand the dimensions of poverty faced by women and to formulate policies that are responsive to their specific needs

Abstract

Penelitian ini mengkaji isu gender dikalangan perempuan kepala keluarga dalam konteks pembangunan di Aceh, serta implikasinya terhadap pemberdayaan perempuan. Meskipun jumlah keluarga yang dipimpin oleh perempuan semakin meningkat, keberadaan mereka sering kali tidak diakui dalam kebijakan pembangunan. Penelitian ini mengidentifikasi faktor-faktor yang menyebabkan ketidakakuan ini, termasuk norma sosial yang patriarkal, kurangnya akses terhadap sumber daya ekonomi, dan minimnya representasi perempuan dalam pengambilan keputusan. Data menunjukkan bahwa mayoritas keluarga yang dipimpin oleh perempuan berada dalam kondisi kemiskinan, yang memperburuk ketidaksetaraan gender. Dengan menggunakan pendekatan kualitatif, penelitian ini mengumpulkan data melalui wawancara mendalam dan diskusi kelompok terfokus dengan perempuan kepala keluarga di Aceh. Temuan menunjukkan bahwa pengakuan dan dukungan terhadap perempuan kepala keluarga sangat penting untuk meningkatkan kesejahteraan keluarga dan mendorong pemberdayaan perempuan secara keseluruhan. Penelitian ini merekomendasikan perlunya kebijakan yang lebih inklusif dan responsif gender untuk mengatasi tantangan yang dihadapi oleh perempuan kepala keluarga, serta meningkatkan partisipasi mereka dalam proses pembangunan.

Abstract

This study aims to explores how transmen in Aceh construct and negotiate their gender identity within a social and cultural context dominated by religious norms. Using the Narrative Inquiry method, this qualitative study focuses on the life stories of two transmen to uncover the interplay between personal desires, social pressures, and cultural constraints. The findings reveal that transmen in Aceh interpret their male identity as a response to internal self-awareness and external societal expectations. Despite facing significant challenges, such as family rejection and societal stigma, transmen employ various strategies to adjust their gender identity within the boundaries of Islamic norms and local culture. These strategies include selective social interactions, adhering to certain cultural expectations, and maintaining religious practices in alignment with their biological sex. The study also highlights the importance of family support and social networks in helping transmen navigate their identity amidst societal constraints. Community involvement provides a sense of solidarity, while flexible approaches to cultural norms enable transmen to sustain their identity without completely rejecting societal expectations. Abstrak Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengeksplorasi bagaimana transman di Aceh membangun dan menegosiasikan identitas gender mereka dalam konteks sosial dan budaya yang didominasi oleh norma agama. Dengan menggunakan metode Narrative Inquiry, penelitian kualitatif ini mendalami kisah hidup dua transman untuk memahami hubungan antara keinginan personal, tekanan sosial, dan batasan budaya. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa transman di Aceh memaknai identitas laki-laki mereka sebagai respons terhadap kesadaran diri dan harapan sosial. Meskipun menghadapi tantangan besar, seperti penolakan keluarga dan stigma masyarakat, transman mengembangkan berbagai strategi untuk menyesuaikan identitas gender mereka dalam batasan norma Islam dan budaya lokal. Strategi ini meliputi interaksi sosial yang selektif, mengikuti sebagian norma budaya, dan tetap menjalankan ibadah sesuai jenis kelamin biologis mereka. Penelitian ini juga menegaskan pentingnya dukungan keluarga dan jaringan sosial dalam membantu transman menavigasi identitas mereka di tengah tekanan sosial. Keterlibatan dalam komunitas memberikan solidaritas yang memperkuat, sementara pendekatan fleksibel terhadap norma budaya memungkinkan transman mempertahankan identitas mereka tanpa sepenuhnya menolak ekspektasi sosial.

Abstract

Women’s poverty in Aceh persists due to entrenched gender norms restricting their economic access and social welfare, despite the poverty alleviation efforts. Gender mainstreaming policies (GMP), initiated through Presidential Instruction No. 9/2000, remain ineffective due to weak institutional coordination, inadequate funding, and exclusion of women in planning. This qualitative study analyzes policy implementation via document reviews, observations, and interviews, revealing multidimensional challenges. Institutional fragmentation, short-term program focus, and financial constraints limit women’s empowerment. Women’s exclusion from policy planning further reduces program ownership and engagement. Field data underscore women’s undervalued economic roles in coastal and agricultural sectors. In fishing communities, women contribute to fish processing, while female coffee farmers in Bener Meriah manage harvesting and small businesses. However, restricted access to resources, credit, and decision-making stifles their potential. To address these gaps, the study advocates strengthening institutional collaboration, increasing gender-responsive budgets, and integrating women into planning and evaluation. Sustainable outcomes require prioritizing long-term strategies with robust monitoring. Enhancing resource access, financial support, and decision-making power for women is critical to reducing poverty and advancing gender equity. These reforms aim to transform policy frameworks into actionable, inclusive solutions, ensuring Aceh’s poverty alleviation efforts align with the needs and contributions of its women.

Abstract

This study explores how employees perform and negotiate their religious identities in a professional environment through the dramaturgical perspective of Erving Goffman. The research focuses on Bintang Prima Perkasa, a consumer goods distribution company in Aceh Besar, Indonesia, where Islamic values are deeply integrated into everyday organizational life. Using a qualitative descriptive–analytical approach, data were collected through in-depth interviews, participant observation, and documentation. Participants included managers, supervisors, administrative officers, sales personnel, and delivery staff selected through purposive sampling. The findings show that religiosity in the workplace operates as both a spiritual and social performance. On the front stage, employees express faith through punctual prayer, greeting with salam, and participation in collective pengajian to project professionalism and integrity. On the back stage, they practice a more personal and emotional form of worship beyond social observation. Religion serves dual functions: socially, it fosters trust, cooperation, and moral discipline; psychologically, it provides emotional stability and stress relief. Supported by organizational facilities, these practices have evolved into institutional norms that strengthen solidarity and moral order. The study concludes that religiosity in this workplace functions as a dramaturgical strategy that integrates faith, ethics, and professionalism, contributing to a cohesive and value-based organizational culture.

Abstract

The emergence of anime among university students has influenced the formation of a distinctive lifestyle, primarily through the imitation of concepts depicted in these anime. Consequently, this paper examines the impact of anime on the lives of university students in Banda Aceh, aiming to understand both the positive and negative effects of anime and Japanese culture on students' lifestyle changes. This qualitative research utilized observation, interviews, and documentation as data collection methods. The findings reveal various forms of lifestyle changes, including alterations in motivation, social interaction, the incorporation of the Japanese language into daily life, the adoption of anime fashion, imitative behaviors, and shifts in students' perspectives towards anime and Japanese culture. The positive impacts identified from anime include the development of Japanese language skills, anime serving as a source of inspiration, and anime facilitating social interaction among students. However, the study also highlights negative impacts, such as the excessive amount of time spent watching anime, experiences of hallucinations, and exposure to inappropriate content or content overly focused on sexuality. Abstrak Munculnya anime di kalangan mahasiswa memberikan pengaruh dalam membentuk gaya hidup tersendiri akibat mengimitasi konsep anime tersebut. Oleh karena itu tulisan ini mengkaji bagaimana dampak anime bagi kehidupan mahasiswa di Banda Aceh untuk mengetahui dampak positif dan negatif dari pengaruh anime dan budaya Jepang terhadap perubahan gaya hidup mahasiswa. Penelitian kualitatif ini menggunakan teknik pengumpulan data observasi, wawancara dan dokumentasi. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan terdapat beberapa bentuk perubahan gaya hidup yaitu perubahan motivasi, interaksi sosial, penggunaan bahasa Jepang dalam kehidupan sehari-hari, adopsi fashion anime, serta perilaku imitasi, hingga perubahan perspektif mahasiswa terhadap anime dan budaya Jepang. Adapun dampak positif yang ditimbulkan anime kepada mahasiswa adalah pengembangan keterampilan berbahasa Jepang, anime sebagai sumber inspiratif dan anime sebagai pembangun interaksi sosial bagi mahasiswa. Namun, anime juga memberikan dampak negatif yaitu menghabiskan banyak waktu untuk menonton, halusinasi, serta konten yang tidak sesuai atau lebih mengarah ke seksualitas.
