Abstract

Eradicating rice pests in South Kualuh is difficult to do optimally, because most farmers do not understand the types of pests that attack their rice plants. The objective of this study was to obtain information about the type of pest insects in rice plants and to find out the diversity index of insect pests in rice plants. This research was conducted using trap method and collection of insects was done using a insect net. Observation data was analised using Shanon Wiener (H) diversity / diversity index. The result showed 13 types of pest insects which belongs to 10 families. That is Tettigonia sp.(Linnaeus, 1758), Sogatella furcifera (Horváth, 1899), Nephotettix virescens (Distant, 1908), Cofana spectra (Distant, 1908), Atractomorpha crenulata (Fabricius, 1793), Erotides sp.(Laporte, 1836), Leptocorisa acuta (Thunberg, 1783), Aulacophora indica (Gmelin, 1790), Chrysochus cobaltinus (LeConte, 1857), Silba capsicarum (McAlpine, 1956), Hercostomus germanus (Wiedemann, 1817), Cnaphalocrosis medinalis (Guenée, 1854), Scirpophaga incertulas (Walker, 1863). The diversity index of rice pest insects was categorized as moderate with a value of 2,35 and a dominance index of 0,108. This value indicates that the distribution of species is evenly distributed so that no insect species dominates in the area.

Abstract

Kata kunci: media tanam hidroponik, sistem wick, sistem NFT, dan ketahanan pangan wargaFresh Lettuce has been produced by residents of Medan Labuhan Subdistrict through training and mentoring activities using the results of developing hydroponic growing media to support family food security. Community service activities based on the study program resulted in the development of hydroponic growing media which consisted of two models, namely hydroponic growing media with the wick system and the NFT system. The wick system produces Lettuce production capacity for a home scale and the provision of nutrition is practical, while the NFT system produces business-scale Lettuce production and the provision of nutrients is regulated through sensor readings of the conductivity of the solution. This hydroponic growing media development activity uses a research and development approach while the process of utilizing the results is training and mentoring with the Participatory Action Research Model from Stephen Kemmis. The achievement of this activity was that the residents received training in hydroponic farming by utilizing recycled materials to increase the economic function of the yard. In addition, the pattern of assistance from the use of hydroponic planting media has increased people's understanding of family food security. Keywords: hydroponic growing media, wick system, NFT system, and family food security

Abstract

Nocturnal insects are a type of insect that is active at night and plays a role in maintaining the balance of the ecosystem and has an ecologically and economically occurring role. This study was conducted to determine the diversity, evenness, and dominance of nocturnal insects based on the color of the light trap lamp at the Vegetable Crop Research Center of Tongkoh Village, Karo Regency, North Sumatra. This study used the light trap method by making a transect 100 m long and on the transect, 5 observation stations were installed. There are 27 insect families consisting of 35 types of nocturnal insects with a total of 240 individuals. The most common type of insect found is Empoasca fabae. The diversity index (H') is included in the moderate category with a value of 2.10 on the green lamp trap, 1.38 on the blue lamp trap, 2.23 on the yellow lamp trap, 2.76 on the white lamp trap, and 2.26 on the red lamp trap, this shows that the insect diversity at the study site is in a stable condition. The dominance index (C) is categorized as low with a value of 0.184 on green light traps, 0.347 on blue lamp traps, 0.222 on yellow light traps, 0.092 on white light traps, and 0.150 on red light traps. This situation occurs because there is no type of nocturnal insect that is too dominant so that the diversity of insects is classified as being in a stable state.

Abstract

Pollinating insects are insects that have an important role as intermediaries for pollinating plants by collecting pollen and nectar found in strawberry flowers (Fragaria sp.). This research was conducted to determine the types of pollinating insects and the diversity of pollinating insects. This research was conducted in Tongkoh Village, Dolat Raya Sub District, Karo District, North Sumatra. Intake of pollinating insects is done by observation method. The results of the study obtained 3 orders and 7 families as well as 11 types of pollinating insects with a total of 147 individuals. The most common type of insect found was Apis cerana. The diversity index of pollinating insects was moderate with an H' value of 2.15. This indicated that the diversity of pollinating insects at the study site was in a stable condition because there were no pollinating insect species that were too dominant.
