Abstract

The aim of this research is to see science concept understanding of 5th grade Elementary School students towards learning material about air through Blended Learning model. This research uses qualitative descriptive method that involved 20 Elementary School students in grade 5 at a school in Sumedang Regency, West Java Province. The data collection was conducted by using instruments in the form of essay test questions to measure the students’ science concept understanding towards aspects of factual, conceptual, and metacognitive knowledge that were collected through google form. The results show that the students’ understanding about air material towards factual aspect enters high category with a percentage of 76.7%, towards conceptual aspect enters middle category with a percentage of 74.1%, and towards metacognitive aspect enters middle category with a percentage of 61.8%. Therefore, it is proved that students’ science concept understanding towards air material by using Blended Learning model is good enough. This happened because Blended Learning model can make students capable to follow the learning activity well that is shown by the good learning results and their activeness during learning activity in the class. However, to maximize the implementation of this learning model, the combination between Blended learning with another learning model is needed.

Abstract

The purpose of the study was to describe the initial critical thinking skills of elementary school students in Bandung. Descriptive qualitative method was used in this research by involving 64 fifth grade students in learning science of air material from three elementary schools in Bandung, West Java. The data was collected using an instrument in the form of a description test that includes all critical thinking indicators assisted by google form. The data were analyzed by calculating the percentage value of the students' answers and categorizing them into very high, high, medium, low, and very low. The results showed that in general the students' initial critical thinking abilities were included in the low category. Very low category 27 people (42.19%); low 27 people (42.19%); while 9 people (14.06%); and the height of 1 person (1.56%). Based on critical thinking indicators, aspects of Advanced Clarification and Strategies and Tactics fall into the very low category with an average percentage value of 21.25% and 33.44%, Elementary Clarification aspects fall into the low category (46.34%), Basic Support aspects is in the medium category (58.77%), while the Inferring aspect is in the high category (79.17%). In general, the critical thinking aspect of students in several elementary schools in Bandung is still in the low category (47.88%). These results indicate the need to improve the critical thinking aspects of students through habituation of these aspects in learning and the need for information on the impact of their effects through a follow-up study.

Abstract

This research was conducted since the decline of sense of responsibility and the concern towards environment. The emergence of various natural disasters is caused by the hands of human itself in taking advantage of natural environment. The objective of this research is to reveal the teacher’s strategy in developing environmental care through simple science experiment. This research uses quantitative approach with survey method regarding to nature of science, simple science experiment, and caring attitude towards the environment. The research data were obtained online by using google form media. There were 224 of elementary school teacher as respondents that become sample of this research, the teachers were from different schools in West Java. The instruments used in this research are questionnaire related to implementation of nature of science and caring attitude towards the environment. The results showed that environmental care attitude to students that had been carried out frequently by the teacher through simple science experiment scored average value 38.5 %. Moreover, the research indicates there were several teachers who had never developing environmental care attitude to their students scored 5.25%. It shows that it is necessary to conduct alternative activity as an improving effort through teacher’s strategy in developing environmental care attitude towards elemntary school student through simple science experiment.

Abstract

Understanding by Design (UbD) is a learning activity that focuses on the desired learning objectives. The purpose of this study was to determine the responses of elementary school teachers and students regarding the application of UbD to science learning in elementary schools. This study was conducted using a descriptive qualitative method using questionnaires and interview sheets involving 3 teachers and 52 elementary school students in several areas in Java. This study was conducted on science material in elementary schools. Data collection was carried out using a questionnaire referring to the Likert scale and interviews. The results showed that teachers and students gave a positive response to the application of UbD-based learning in elementary school science material. The average value of the teacher's response, which was 76.62, was in the good category. The average value of the student's response, which was 75.92, was also in the good category. UbD-based learning can make it easier for teachers to plan learning, structure learning activities well, and motivate students to learn and understand science material more easily, resulting in increased student learning outcomes.elitian ini untuk mengetahui tanggapan dari guru dan peserta didik sekolah dasar mengenai penerapan UbD pada pembelajaran IPA di sekolah dasar.
