Abstract

Abstract. This research aims to determine the influence of implementing  the think talk write (TTW) strategy of cooperative learning model towards mathematics reasoning and communication abilities and students motivation in mathematics learning. The type of this research was a quasi-experimental study involving two different treatment groups. The population of this study were students of grade VII SMPN 1 Sinjai Utara and selected by cluster random sampling that  were class VII-6 and VII-7. The results obtained from descriptive statistical analysis was: the mathematics reasoning abilities of students by applying cooperative learning model with TTW strategy is in low category, communication ability is in moderate category, and student learning motivation is in moderate category, and the mathematics reasoning abilities of students by applying direct learning model with expository strategy is in very low category, communication ability is in low, and student learning motivation is in moderate category. The results of inferential statistical analysis obtained that: mathematical reasoning, and communication ability, and the motivation of students by applying cooperative learning model with TTW strategy better than the mathematical reasoning, and communication ability, and the learning motivation of students taught by direct learning model. From the result of this research, it can be concluded that there was the  influence of applying cooperative learning model with think talk write strategy to mathematical reasoning, and communication ability, and the learning motivation of students.Keyword: Cooperative Learning Model, Direct Learning Model, Think Talk Write Strategy, Expository Strategy, Mathematics Reasoning Ability, Mathematics Communication Ability, Student Learning Motivation.

Abstract

This study investigates the role of Islamic religious counselors in eradicating Qur’anic illiteracy in Somba Opu Subdistrict, Gowa Regency. Qur’anic illiteracy remains a significant issue in Indonesia, affecting individuals’ ability to access and practice core Islamic teachings. Utilizing a qualitative descriptive method with a case study approach, the research involved interviews, observation, and documentation to understand the strategies implemented by religious counselors. The findings reveal that counselors play a central role in facilitating Qur’anic literacy programs by providing instruction using structured methods such as Iqra and Al-Barqi, conducting outreach activities, evaluating learner progress, and engaging with community leaders. Supporting factors include strong religious motivation, collaboration with local stakeholders, and institutional backing from the Office of Religious Affairs (KUA). However, challenges such as digital distractions, limited human resources, and low learner motivation continue to hinder program effectiveness. This study highlights the importance of strengthening the role of religious counselors and promoting community-based religious education as a key strategy for addressing Qur’anic illiteracy in Indonesia.

Abstract

This article examines how Islamic jurisprudence engages with transgender rights through two landmark fatwas in Egypt and Iran: Sheikh Muhammad al-Tantawi’s 1988 fatwa and Ayatollah Ruhollah Khomeini’s 1987 fatwa. Using qualitative methods—document analysis, hermeneutics, and comparative case studies—the study analyzes how religious authorities interpret sex reassignment surgery (SRS) within Islamic law. Al-Tantawi permits SRS only for intersex individuals, reinforcing binary gender norms and sustaining legal ambiguity and social stigma in Egypt, though his ruling nonetheless inspired activism for more inclusive interpretations. In contrast, Khomeini’s fatwa employs theological principles such as aṣālat al-ibāḥa (original permissibility) and taslīṭ (personal authority) to allow SRS for transgender individuals diagnosed with gender dysphoria, shaping Iranian state policy through formal medical protocols and insurance coverage. However, tensions remain, as this recognition coexists with the criminalization of homosexuality. The study shows that while medical diagnostics are central to legitimizing contemporary fatwas in both countries, such reliance also reinforces the pathologization of gender variance. By foregrounding this tension, the article demonstrates how medicalization both enables and constrains Islamic legal reasoning. It argues that applying maqāṣid al-Sharīʿa—particularly justice, welfare, and human dignity—offers a more compassionate and ethically responsive framework. The findings highlight the need for expanded ijtihād that incorporates non-binary and intersectional identities to support a more inclusive, human-centered Islamic legal approach.
