Abstract

A distal radius fracture is a fracture that occurs when the radius bone, one of the two long bones in the forearm, breaks near the wrist. This paper aims to determine the application of the biomechanical frame of reference in cases of fractures of the distal radius ulna in the independence of wrapping food. This research was conducted by taking the case of a patient, conducting assessment, observation, and intervention on the patient. Specifically, the assessment carried out focuses on range of motion abilities, muscle strength and endurance, pain scale and functional activity abilities. The patient's problems were decreased joint range of motion, muscle strength, and muscle endurance and experienced pain caused by a fracture of the distal radius ulna, so that they experienced difficulties in productivity activities, especially in carrying out food wrapping activities. Occupational therapy provides interventions using a biomechanical approach to help increase the range of motion of the joints, muscle strength and muscle endurance as well as adapting ways for the recovery of patients with distal radius-ulna fractures and increasing the patient's productivity abilities as a food seller.

Abstract

Herniated nucleus pulposus (HNP) is a situation where the annulus fibrosus along nucleus pulposus protruding into the spinal canal. HNP patients often complain of back pain radiating to the lower limbs, especially when bending activity. Rehabilitation programs do to help reduce the pain. The aim of this research knew which treatment was more effective among William's Flexion compared to Core Stability in reducing pain for HNP patients. This study used a double-blind experimental design with an alpha value of 5%. The study was conducted at the Clinic “X”. Sample was 18 patients with medical diagnoses HNP undergoing therapy from September to December 2013, taken with randomization techniques. Pain was measured using the Visual Analoque Scale (VAS). The results of the t-test analysis showed that Core stability (mean=4.56, SD=1.130) was more effective than William's flexion [mean = 2.78, SD = 0.972; t(16) = - 3.578, p = 0.003] in reducing pain for HNP patients. The results of One-Way ANOVA showed that there was no significant difference in pain reduction produced by William's flexion frequency of treatment [F(2, 6)=1.857, p=0.236]. In contrast, there were significant differences in pain reduction produced by Core stability frequency treatment [F(1, 6)=12.333, p=0.007].

Abstract

Down syndrome is a condition of physical and mental developmental delays caused by chromosomal abnormalities. Children with Down syndrome generally show differences in motor development compared to other children, including delays in developing independence in daily activities. This study evaluates An. N, a 9-year and 9-month-old child with Down syndrome, who has issues with independence, particularly in toileting activities. To address this issue, an occupational therapy program was implemented using behavior modification and sensory integration approaches. The behavior modification techniques employed included positive reinforcement and prompting (physical, verbal, gestural, modeling), while the sensory integration techniques involved play. The results of the study showed that after 20 therapy sessions, An. N's ability in toileting activities significantly improved, as reflected by the change in the WeeFIM assessment score for the toileting component from 1 (Total assistance) to 5 (Supervision). This indicates an improvement in the child's independence in daily activities.

Abstract

Anxiety is a common mental condition characterized by feelings of nervousness, fear, and restlessness that can interfere with daily life. Parents who have children with intellectual disabilities often experience anxiety due to various factors, including psychological pressure and high emotional burdens. The aim of this study was to analyze the level of anxiety among parents who have children with intellectual disabilities at SLBN 4 Jakarta and to identify the relationship between predisposing and precipitating factors and the level of anxiety. This research employed a quantitative descriptive approach with a cross-sectional design. The sample consisted of 81 parents at SLBN 4 Jakarta. Data were collected using a researcher-developed questionnaire to assess predisposing and precipitating factors, and the Hamilton Anxiety Rating Scale (HARS) to measure anxiety levels. The results showed that the majority of parents had mild anxiety levels (46.9%), while 40.7% did not experience anxiety. Spearman correlation analysis revealed no significant relationship between predisposing factors (r = 0.002; p = 0.988) or precipitating factors (r = 0.060; p = 0.593) and parental anxiety levels. However, there was a significant relationship between marital status and anxiety levels (p = 0.000). This study concludes that genetic and precipitating factors, such as medical conditions or exposure to certain substances, had little influence on parental anxiety in this context, although emotional vulnerability showed the highest average score. The implications of this study highlight the importance of social support and tailored interventions for parents.
