Abstract

The Great Commission has been considered as one of the most important commands of Jesus Christ by the church. It has been passed down from the disciples to the early church fathers and so on until today. Many followers of Christ have tried to fulfill it to their best effort. However, the interpretation of such command, and therefore its implementations, in different churches throughout history, have not always been the same. Without saying that these approaches are wrong, more often than not, they are quite pragmatic and therefore they tend to become the end rather than the means to usher the ultimate vision of what Jesus’ followers ought to live. Additionally, the crucial role of the Holy Spirit is often downplayed in these missionary efforts. This paper attempts to provide a discussion in relation to the Great Commission from a Pentecostal perspective and to suggest some steps that can be applied in Gereja Bethel Indonesia (GBI) in its missionary approach as a result of this perspective. GBI was chosen as it is the largest Pentecostal Church in Indonesia.

Abstract

History records that there are several systems of Church government namely: First, the system of government of the Episcopal Church; second, The system of government of the Presbyterian Church; third, the system of government of the Congregational Church; Fourth, There is no system of Church government. All its management activities move by relying on the Holy Spirit. P there was a session of the GBI Synod in 2021 which it was stated that the Indonesian Bethel Church (GBI) stated that it adheres to the system of government of the Synodal Pastoral Church.  The system of government of the Synodal Pastoral Church is a system of Church government that gives autonomous rights to the pastors of the congregation to administer their local Church.  What is the biblical basis of the Synodal Pastoral Church's system of government? It is this policy that has implications for the decision of the pastors of the local Church congregation to remain faithful to join this GBI synod until its old age because its leadership can be passed on to the next generation in accordance with the expectations of the pastors of the local Church congregation.  With the loyalty of the congregational pastors, it will lead to the enlargement of the second largest GBI synod in Indonesia. Sejarah mencatat ada beberapa sistem pemerintahan Gereja yaitu: Pertama, Sistem pemerintahan Gereja Episkopal; kedua, Sistem pemerintahan Gereja Presbiterian; ketiga, sistem pemerintahan Gereja Kongregasional; Keempat, Tidak ada sistem pemerintahan Gereja. Semua aktifitas manajemennya bergerak dengan mengandalkan Roh Kudus. Pada sidang Sinode GBI tahun 2021 yang lalu telah dicetuskan bahwa Gereja Bethel Indonesia (GBI) menyatakan menganut sistem pemerintahan Gereja Pastoral Sinodal. Sistem pemerintahan Gereja Pastoral Sinodal adalah sistem pemerintahan Gereja yang memberikan hak otonom kepada para gembala sidang untuk mengelola Gereja lokalnya. Bagaimanakah landasan Alkitab sistem pemerintahan Gereja Pastoral Sinodal? Kebijakan inilah yang berimplikasi kepada keputusan para gembala sidang Gereja lokal untuk tetap setia bergabung dalam sinode GBI ini hingga masa tuanya karena kepemimpinannya dapat diturunkan kepada generasi selanjutnya yang sesuai dengan harapan gembala sidang Gereja lokal. Dengan adanya kesetiaan para gembala sidang maka akan berujung pada pembesaran sinode GBI terbesar kedua di Indonesia.

Abstract

Abstract The Bible is the most translated book into various languages. Although, studies on the impact of these Bible translations on the spirituality of the language readers in their local community is still limited. This research is aimed to measure the role of Bible translations into the various heart languages as an integral part of contextual mission. This research uses a library research method with a qualitative theological approach, characterized by two main frameworks: a narrative and a hermeneutical approach to the Bible. The result of the research shows that Bible translations into heart languages, significantly increases understanding, affection and spiritual involvement of the users. Therefore, heart language translations are not just about a communication tool, but also as an emotional and cultural bridge that is important in spreading the Gospel. To that end, translating the Bible into more heart languages need to be supported even more as a relevant and transformative strategy for contextual mission.  AbstrakAlkitab merupakan buku yang paling banyak diterjemahkan ke dalam berbagai bahasa. Namun, studi tentang dampak penerjemahan Alkitab ke dalam bahasa ibu terhadap spiritualitas pengguna bahasa tersebut di dalam komunitas lokal masih terbatas. Penelitian ini bertujuan mengkaji peran penerjemahan Alkitab ke dalam bahasa ibu sebagai bagian integral dari misi kontekstual. Penelitian ini menggunakan metode studi pustaka dengan pendekatan kualitatif teologis dengan dua corak utama yaitu pendekatan naratif dan hermeneutik dari Alkitab. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa penerjemahan Alkitab ke dalam bahasa ibu, secara signifikan memperkuat pemahaman, afeksi, dan keterlibatan spiritual masyarakat penggunanya. Dengan demikian, fungsi bahasa ibu tidak terbatas sebagai alat komunikasi saja, tetapi juga sebagai jembatan emosional dan budaya yang penting dalam pewartaan Injil. Oleh karena itu, penerjemahan Alkitab ke dalam bahasa ibu perlu terus didukung sebagai strategi misi kontekstual yang relevan dan transformatif.
