Abstract

The peculiarities of conventional techniques in textile processing make a significant contribution to the artwork’s value in terms of aesthetics and originality. The woodcut relief printing technique, also known as block printing, is a conventional surface design textile technique with its characteristics in terms of technical work and the resulting visual effects. The visual character of chiaroscuro can be built with the composition of color values with different intensities through the printing plate or matrix printing process in the block printing area. The primary purpose of this study is to determine the opportunities for textile materials to be processed using relief woodcut block printing with chiaroscuro visual characteristics in craft-based fashion product design. This study uses a qualitative method to analyze the studies' results based on data collection and application theories from literature and observations. So, it is possible to develop through experiments and analyses following research objectives. The research results include the visualization of motifs in the form of stylized images of fire and sky on sheets of ATBM woven cloth with kenaf and hemp fibers using a relief woodcut block printing with the multi-block method. Then it is implemented into a menswear fashion collection consisting of 5 (five) fashion design looks with a focus on placing motifs on the tops of shirts, jackets, and bomber jackets. Keywords: chiaroscuro, block printing, craft, fashion. AbstrakKekhasan teknik konvensional dalam pengolahan tekstil memberikan sumbangan yang signifikan bagi nilai sebuah karya baik dari segi estetika maupun orisinalitas. Abstract

This study explores Generation Z's view of fashion as a manifestation of social constructionism. This research attempts to answer questions about how Generation Z understands and responds to fashion trends and how fashion trends play a role in the social construction of their identities. The research problem studied is the role of fashion in shaping self-perception and how social views influence the acceptance and interpretation of fashion trends by Generation Z. The basic design of this study uses qualitative methods with a phenomenological approach. Data was collected through observation and distribution of questionnaires with several participants from Generation Z, who represented various social and cultural backgrounds. The collected data is then analyzed thematically to identify key trends and emerging findings. The analysis shows that Generation Z sees fashion as a means to express their identity and build a social image with community groups. Fashion for them is not only about personal style but also a form of expression of their culture and social values. The main trend found is that Generation Z tends to be more inclusive and accepting of differences in fashion, rejecting stereotypes and rigid social norms. The interpretation of the results of this study shows that fashion for Generation Z is not just a tool to follow trends, but also a form of self-expression and social identity. In addition, they tend to reject social boundaries and fight for inclusivity in fashion.

Abstract

Every individual, including children with special needs, possesses creative potential that can be continually developed. This creativity is often expressed through visual media, such as images, which serve as a means of communication to convey messages, emotions, and thoughts. However, children with special needs often face unique challenges in expressing themselves, such as difficulties with verbal communication, limited motor skills, and cognitive barriers. Therefore, an inclusive and adaptive approach is essential to ensure that these children can fully express their creativity. One promising method for fostering creativity is the use of digital technology, such as Adobe Photoshop, to create digital motif designs. Through digital motif design, children with special needs can not only express themselves visually but also explore various shapes, colors, and compositions without limitations. This research aims to analyze digital motif works created by children with special needs using a visual language approach. The focus is on the objects depicted (wimba) and how they are arranged within a field (tata ungkap). Through this research, we hope to identify the personality traits of children with special needs through the interpretation of their digital motif designs. This analysis may also support the classroom learning process, provide stimulation, and enhance motivation. As a result, children’s communication, emotional expression, and abilities can be further explored. The findings of this research indicate that the use of digital media facilitate creative expression in a more inclusive and adaptive way. Thus, the artworks produced by children with special needs are not only unique and interesting but also reflect their ability to adapt and innovate despite challenges.
