Abstract

This study investigates the efficacy of audio-visual technologies in assisting MSU third-year students in learning English vocabulary. The interplay of audio-visual aids in educational conversations has been researched from a variety of perspectives (Tuovinen, 2000). Multimedia is a multimodal experience in which information is communicated through text, graphics, pictures, audio, and video. It has been demonstrated that a combination of words and images always carries a substantial quantity of information (Mayer, 2018: 55). The use of multimedia in teaching and learning. The goal of this research is to determine the efficiency of audiovisual aids in the learning of English vocabulary among MSU third-year students. The use of multimedia in instruction and learning threatens the foundations of higher education. The current study investigates how third-year students at Malaysia's Management and Science University use multimedia in their English studies (MSU). To fulfill the study's aims, the researchers used both a qualitative and quantitative approach. An online poll of 200 students enrolled in the Bachelor of English as a second language program was used to construct the study corpus (BTESL). In addition, 150 MSU students from the same program were polled. The study's findings indicate that multimedia inspires BTESL students to learn English creatively and engagingly. It also aroused students' attention and compelled them to learn new terms. Multimedia, according to the study, is an excellent tool for third-year English students. It also helps students enhance their understanding of correct terminology and language.

Abstract

Tolerance in religion practices among different groups or differen religious communities is always important in plural societies like Indonesia. However, the fact shows that many intolarance cases still occur in the country. This study is an endevour to explore the tolerance teaching brought  by Gus Baha in his traditional islamic lectures. In addition, the reaction of the public to the teaching was also examined. It adopted a digital ethnography approach employing virtual data as the main sources, including YouTube Video, and the comments of netizen following them. The ideas of tolerance were analyzed thematically, and the comments were classified, following the Appraisal theory (Martin & Rose, 2005). Based on the analysis, it reveals that Gus Baha makes use of old stories involving prophets, the Prophet and his companion as they implemented tolerant practices of daily business and religious matters. The stories there proved upscaled tolerance exemplified by the best models for Moslem communities. The public (netizen) have shown positive responses toward the ideas, as it is proved from their positive emotion (80%), and judgment (74%), meaning they like the idea and agree that they are right. In turn, it is expected that they would practice the models of tolerance in their own daily lives.

Abstract

In producing competent college graduates in the 21st century, two skills must be taught to students: writing and metacognitive skills. This research explores the impact of the task-based teaching-learning method on Sharia banking students' writing and metacognitive abilities at a state university in Banten Province, Indonesia. This research used a pretest-posttest experimental design involving 60 students. Data collection in the research used essay writing tests, essay writing assessment rubrics, and metacognitive skills questionnaires. Next, the data was analyzed using a quantitative approach by running the SPSS 20.00 program with paired sample t-test and one-way ANCOVA. The research results show that the TBLT model can improve students' writing performance and metacognition skills. This means that there has been a significant change in the average score in writing ability [t = -16.871, p < .000] and writing metacognitive awareness score [t = -17.197, p < .000] in the experimental group that received treatment with the task model. -based language teaching (TBLT). This study recommends that the TBLT method can be used as an alternative for teachers to simultaneously improve writing abilities and metacognition skills. In addition, this study emphasizes the importance of using comprehensive learning methods to develop both skills.
