Abstract

This study aims to discover the reasons for the culture of peace instilled in Islamic spiritual (rohis) activists and the role of rohis activists in cultivating a culture of peace. This field research took place in SMA Negeri 1 Purworejo. This qualitative research seeks to describe the data from the field related to the discussion. This research focuses on the implementation of rohis activities. To get the data, data collection techniques were conducted through observation, interviews, and documentation. All data were then analyzed in stages: reducing the data, presenting the data, and concluding the research results. Meanwhile, the data validity was checked by triangulation in two modes: multiple sources and methods. This study concluded that (1) the reasons for instilling the character of a culture of peace in rohis activists is that the teachings of Islam practiced are intolerant and contradict the values taken from the history of the school. (2) The role of rohis activists in cultivating a culture of peace was carried out in two steps, i.e., preventing the entry of intolerance and constructing new knowledge. This construction of new knowledge was conducted by internalizing the attitude of a culture of peace. The method was done using lectures, practice, and dialogue.

Abstract

Hidden behind insufficient data, the number of persons with disabilities is growing in surface. Like a pyramid, disability students are high at the primary level but drop off at the secondary, and particularly at the university level. An estimated data (2016) indicates that Indonesian people with disabilities have reached 12,15%. Out of 29 State Islamic Universities (Universitas Islam Negeri or UIN), a very limited number of campuses are inclusive. UIN Yogyakarta is considered the first inclusive campus, while UIN Surabaya is underway. This study tries to look closer at the curriculum policy for disability students at the above-mentioned UINs. The research method applied in this study is a combination of policy analysis and case study. Sources of evidence and information are documentation (digital and printed materials), direct observation and interview with 7 informants. The research findings can be summarized into several points: first, inclusive practices at UINs have gradually developed to meet the global demand for education for all and national policies on disabilities. However, during their learning process, disabled students have met barriers and difficulties in communication, social interaction, and using multimedia and accessible infrastructures. Second, curriculum policies and strategies have already been standardized by the national law of education and adopted by UIN’s authorities into syllabi and subject materials. UIN Yogyakarta has modified Universal Design for Learning (UDL) model, and UIN Surabaya maintains an integrated curriculum to solve the problem of disabilities. Third, both UINs have provided facilities and support systems, hardware and software, but need to be upgraded, and in some cases are ineffective.

Abstract

AbstractThis study recruited participants from UIN Sunan Kalijaga and Universitas Sanata Dharma in Yogyakarta and the University of Sydney, and the University of Western Sydney in Australia and aimed at investigating whether policies are implemented as a bridge to accommodate disabled students for admission and academic pursuits. In this combined policy research and case study, individual, group, and policymaker interviews were conducted. The findings indicate that, while university policymakers admit students with special needs, a lack of academic advocates among faculty has hampered understanding of pertinent policies. As a result, some lecturers do not pay attention to inclusiveness. There are environmental impediments, a dearth of services throughout the enrollment process, a lack of faculty competencies, and a paucity of information in syllabi indicating where impaired students can access resources. In Australia, colleges are more forthright about accommodating students with special needs during the enrolling process and during class time. Both campuses have disability assessment clinics. However, some are more physically and centrally positioned to facilitate impaired students who self-refer for services. The purpose of this paper is to argue that genuinely inclusive education is not segregated schooling that separates 'normal' pupils from those with special needs. For authentic inclusion, disabled populations require considerate, if not extraordinary, care and services. How to Cite: Lessy, Z., Assegaf, A. R., Sirait, S. (2021). Abstract

In facing modern developments, universities are required to carry out innovative learning designs and processes in order to produce graduates who are able to compete with the demands of the times. The purpose of writing this article is to examine the Islamic Religious Education (PAI) policy in higher education and its development based on the Twin-Tower paradigm. The author uses the library research method to answer the problem formulation that has been formulated. The data analysis technique includes three steps, namely data condensation, data presentation and drawing conclusions. The results of this paper show that the State Islamic University (UIN) Sunan Ampel Surabaya applies the Twin Tower paradigm in the development of Islamic Religious Education (PAI), which emphasizes integration between religious knowledge and general knowledge. This paradigm aims to create graduates who not only have a deep understanding of religious knowledge, but also competence in the fields of science and technology. The Islamic religious education curriculum at UIN Sunan Ampel was developed in accordance with the guidelines set by the government with an integrative multidisciplinary approach based on the twin tower concept. The strategy implemented by the PAI study program includes integrating the religious science curriculum with modern technology. Through a multidisciplinary approach, the curriculum is designed to meet the needs of society and answer the challenges of the times, with the aim of producing a generation of ulul albab who have intellectual, spiritual intelligence and good character.

Abstract

This study explores the use of Smart Hafiz, an interactive digital media device, in middle-class Muslim families in Yogyakarta as a symbol of piety for children. The study aims to understand how Smart Hafiz is integrated into daily life and how its use reflects the religious aspirations as well as the social identity of middle-class Muslim families. By using a qualitative approach through in-depth interviews and participant observations conducted in 2024. This study found that Smart Hafiz is not only used as a means of religious learning, but also as a symbolic reinforcement that piety is not enough to be practiced, but supported by religious symbols. These findings show that digital media plays an important role in shaping religious practices in the modern era, as well as reflecting the dynamics of interaction between religion, technology, and social classes. This research contributes to the study of media and religion, digital media is currently an alternative need for the piety of Muslim middle-class families.
