Abstract

The concept of childfree centers on the freedom to pursue personal life goals without the responsibility of raising children. Parenthood plays a significant role in determining one’s quality of life. This study explores the correlation between the interpretation of Maqasid al-Shariah and the childfree phenomenon from religious, social, and cultural perspectives. The research delves into the understanding of childfree through these lenses and employs the Maqasid al-Shariah interpretive approach for analysis. The methodology used in this research is qualitative, relying on a literature review approach (library research). The childfree phenomenon is often linked to the shift in modern values that emphasize individual autonomy, women’s rights over their own bodies, and economic considerations. In contemporary society, especially in urban areas, the decision to remain childfree is frequently viewed as part of a lifestyle that prioritizes career and personal achievements. Surah An-Nahl, verse 72, states that Allah created humans in pairs, from whom offspring are born. While this verse is pivotal, a maqasidi interpretation suggests that the decision to remain childfree should be considered within the broader context of individual well-being and circumstances

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the role and urgency of da'wah rhetoric in political communication in Indonesia, with a focus on the context of the Muslim-majority society. As an art of communication, da'wah rhetoric has evolved into a tool for building relationships between leaders and the public, both in spiritual and socio-political dimensions. In this study, the author employs a qualitative approach with a literature review as the primary method, relying on written sources such as books, articles, and previous research to explore the concepts of da'wah rhetoric and its application in political communication. The findings of this study show that da'wah rhetoric not only serves to strengthen religious identity but also functions as a strategic means of shaping public opinion and advancing public agendas, using moral and religious values that can influence the feelings and emotions of the audience. The study discusses three methods of da'wah rhetoric: the method of hikmah (wisdom), mau'izhah hasanah (good advice), and mujadalah billati hiya ahsan (debate in the best manner). The application of these methods is crucial for delivering political messages effectively and persuasively.

The debate occurred because Nahdlatul Ulama was considered to be playing practical politics, and on the other hand, the Nahdlatul Ulama Khittah was always discussed, saying that Nahdlatul Ulama should not enter into practical politics because of the 1926 NU Khittah. The type of research used was library research. Researchers studied documents, books, journals, magazines and various literature related to NU's position on politics in the 1926 NU Khittah and its position in political practice. The results of the research show that there are two meanings of khittah: the “khass” (far'i-juz'i) namely the NU Khittah text resulting from the Situbondo Congress, and the "am-kulli" namely all the himmah, ideals and guidelines for NU's struggle for religion. and nation. NU politics is part of the broad set of Khittah substance, which includes all the service and dharma of devotion to the nation in two strategic domains: social-national development: and, socio-economic-political dimensions which are based on justice and benefit.

Abstract

This study aims to explore the philosophical meaning of kembar mayang within the Javanese migrant community in Tanah Jawa, Simalungun Regency, and to examine its relevance for nurturing a sakinah family. Employing a qualitative phenomenological approach, the research collects data through observation, documentation, and interviews with traditional wedding specialists (dukun manten) and members of the local Javanese community. These findings are further supported by a literature review consisting of books, theses, dissertations, and scholarly articles addressing the symbolism of kembar mayang. Data analysis follows the stages of data reduction, data display, and conclusion drawing, interpreted through Paul Ricoeur’s philosophy of symbols to unveil the deeper layers of meaning embodied in the ritual practices and material components of kembar mayang. The results reveal that kembar mayang is preserved in its original form within the wedding practices of Javanese communities in the diaspora and continues to function as an ethical–spiritual foundation for cultivating a sakinah family. The interpretation of its materials, structure, and ceremonial use demonstrates that this tradition encapsulates philosophical teachings on relational harmony, steadfast intention, and the unification of two lives within an ordered and balanced framework.
