Abstract

Natural fibers have application in almost every item used in our daily routine and been contributing explicitly to the economic prosperity and sustainability in our lives. Among the natural fiber plants, bamboo is the most popular, because of its versatile applications and significant contribution to the environment. Bamboo fibers have been used in various application such as decoration, weaving, paper makin, textile, and high-performance composites for the past many years. They have several advantages such as superior tensile strength, low density, and high flexibility under flexible and compressive loads. In order to meet the requirements of each bamboo application, there is a need to study the mechanical properties of bamboo fibers. This study reviews mechanical properties of bamboo fibers for various species, extraction methods, plant age, sizes, and moisture contents.  Keywords: bamboo fiber; bamboo extraction method; mechanical properties; mechanical testing; tensile strength AbstrakIndonesia kaya akan tanaman yang dapat diambil seratnya untuk diolah menjadi produk yang bermanfaat. Di antara tanaman penghasil serat alami, bambu adalah yang paling populer, karena memiliki aplikasi yang serba guna, mudah tumbuh, tidak memerlukan perawatan dan dapat mengurangi pencemaran udara. Serat bambu telah digunakan dalam berbagai aplikasi seperti dekorasi, perabot, tekstil, kertas dan komposit. Beberapa keunggulan serat bambu adalah memiliki kekuatan tarik yang besar, densitas yang rendah dan fleksibilitas yang tinggi. Dalam rangka memenuhi persyaratan masing-masing aplikasi dari serat bambu, diperlukan studi mengenai sifat mekanik serat bambu. Penelitian ini membandingkan beberapa penelitian yang sudah dilakukan mengenai sifat mekanik serat bambu berdasarkan spesies, metode pengolahan dari batang bambu menjadi serat, umur tanaman, ukuran serat dan kadar kelembaban. Serat bambu yang dihasilkan dapat memiliki sifat mekanik yang optimal jika bambu yang dipilih adalah dari spesies tertentu, memiliki kadar kelembaban yang rendah dan menggunakan metode ekstraksi yang tepat.

Abstract

Pada umumnya, siswa SMA belum mendapatkan informasi mengenai transportasi pada membrane sel mamalia secara mendalam, sehingga dipandang perlu untuk dilakukan kegiatan sosialisasi untuk menambah pengetahuan mengenai transportasi pada membran sel mamalia dengan bantuan alat peraga yang telah dibuat oleh tim pengabdian masyarakat dari program studi Fisika Universitas Matana.Tahapan dalam melaksanakan kegiatan ini yaitu dengan melakukan persiapan, pelaksanaan, dan evaluasi. Dari hasil kegiatan ini, dapat disimpulkan bahwa kegiatan sosialisasi ini bermanfaat, dan sesuai harapan dan kebutuhan siswa.

Abstract

Pengabdian kepada Masyarakat ini bertujuan untuk memberikan pemahaman lebih dalam mengenai prinsip komunikasi pada sistem saraf kepada siswa SMA dengan menggunakan alat peraga yang telah dibuat oleh tim pengabdian masyarakat program studi Fisika Universitas Matana. Penekanan diberikan pada pemahaman transmisi sinyal, saluran ion yang membuka dan menutup, serta terjadinya potensial aksi pada sel saraf. Berdasarkan hasil evaluasi, nilai rata-rata ujian akhir para siswa-siswi mengalami peningkatan sebesar 4,87% dibandingkan nilai rata-rata ujian awal, yang berarti cukup baik mengingat para siswa-siswi belum pernah menerima materi mengenai komunikasi pada sistem saraf dalam pembelajaran di sekolah. Selain peningkatan pemahaman, siswa-siswi menyatakan bahwa materi yang disampaikan oleh tim bermanfaat serta sesuai dengan harapan dan kebutuhan.

Abstract

Community service is one of the three pillars of higher education, alongside education and research, which aims to bring scientific knowledge directly to the community. This community service activity was conducted through an interactive socialization program on hydrogen bonding in DNA for students at SMA Kristen Menara Tirza. The program utilized a visual teaching aid developed by the Physics Study Program at Matana University to support understanding of abstract molecular structures such as the DNA double helix. The activity involved presentations, hands-on demonstrations, and two-way discussions using the teaching aid. Thirteen students from grade 12 participated in the session, which included pre-tests and post-tests to evaluate learning outcomes. The average test score increased from 35.38 to 55.38, indicating an improvement. Based on this result, all students agreed or strongly agreed that the teaching team mastered the material and presented it engagingly and that the activity was beneficial to their learning. This program shows that a socialization method supported by visual teaching aids significantly improves student comprehension of complex scientific concepts. It is recommended that similar programs be implemented more widely and supported with the development of digital or interactive learning tools to reach broader audiences.

Abstract

Evaluation of CT scan image quality is a crucial aspect in ensuring accurate medical diagnosis. This research aims to evaluate noise values and image homogeneity of CT scans on a head phantom after daily calibration. Evaluation of these two parameters is critical because high noise can interfere with image contrast and lead to clinical misinterpretation, while low homogeneity may indicate artifacts or system inconsistencies that potentially reduce diagnostic reliability. Measurements were performed using Region of Interest (ROI) at five points (one in the center and four at the edges at 12, 3, 6, and 9 o'clock positions) across six image slices, for both head and body modes. The CT scan system used was Siemens SOMATOM go.Top, with primary scanning parameters for each mode: 120 kV voltage, 265 mA current (head) and 220 mA (body), as well as Hr40f and Br40f kernels. Research results show that the CT number homogeneity values in head mode ranged from -1.96 to 0.81 HU, and in body mode from -1.78 to 1.28 HU; all were within the tolerance limit of 0 ± 4 HU. Noise values for head mode ranged from 3.49 – 3.67 HU and body mode from 4.98 – 5.37 HU, also within standard tolerance limits. These findings indicate that the CT scan system functions properly and meets diagnostic imaging quality standards. Additionally, these results support the importance of implementing periodic quality control as part of improving radiological service quality and strengthening patient safety standards in medical facilities.
