Abstract

The Sundanese Kacapi Siter exhibits distinctive microtonal characteristics and acoustic phenomena requiring objective documentation. This study integrates high-fidelity audio recording with Fast Fourier Transform (FFT) analysis to examine the microtonal properties of the Pelog Sunda tuning system and the missing fundamental phenomenon in this traditional instrument. Using Practice-Led Research methodology, we recorded 20 single-note samples with a Neumann TLM 103 condenser microphone in natural reflective classroom conditions, analyzing them through SPAN FFT spectral analysis and cent deviation calculations against 12-TET standards. Results demonstrate systematic microtonality with deviations ranging from -15 to +28 cents, with note "Ti" consistently sharp (+17 to +28 cents) and note "Na" consistently flat (-5 to -13 cents) across octaves (p<0.001, effect size d=2.4). Spectral analysis reveals a missing fundamental phenomenon in low-register notes (La 4: 58.2 Hz, Ti 4: 66.5 Hz), where harmonics dominate perceived pitch despite weak fundamental-frequency energy (-14.3 to -8.9 dBFS fundamental vs. -6.2 to -4.1 dBFS second harmonic). These findings provide quantitative evidence that Sundanese tuning represents a structured non-Western pitch system with intentional microtonal design, advancing computational ethnomusicology through objective acoustic documentation methods that enable preservation, comparative analysis, and technological applications in digital instrument development.

Abstract

Purpose: This study aims to describe the effectiveness of a singing-based approach in introducing numbers and letters to early childhood learners at TK Melati Purwakarta. Considering that early childhood cognitive development is characterized by symbolic and imaginative thinking, this period is regarded as a golden age for the introduction of early literacy skills. Method: This study employed a qualitative approach using a descriptive method. Data were collected through classroom observations, interviews, and documentation of learning activities. Results and Discussion: The findings indicate that the singing-based approach enhances children’s ability to recognize numbers and letters in an enjoyable and meaningful way. Songs combined with body movements and visual media were found to improve memory, concentration, and active engagement in the learning process. Teachers implemented learning activities systematically, beginning with the selection of theme-appropriate songs and continuing through to the evaluation of children’s development. In addition to cognitive benefits, this approach also contributed positively to the development of children’s musicality and social-emotional skills. Conclusion: The singing-based approach represents an effective and appropriate alternative teaching method in early childhood education, particularly for introducing numbers and letters in a fun and meaningful manner.

Abstract

This training activity aims to train students' music skills in preparation for the National Student Art Competition Festival which is a program of the Indonesian government. FLS2N (Festival Lomba Seni Siswa Nasional) is an event organized by the Indonesian Ministry of Education and Culture to facilitate students throughout Indonesia, including students in Indonesian schools abroad, in developing their musical talents and interests. The methods used include regular rehearsals, collaboration between participants, and public performances to build experience. The subjects of this research are school students of all levels who are prepared to represent the school in FLS2N activities. The results of this training are expected to not only improve the quality of student performances at FLS2N, but also foster interest and appreciation for music in the context of Indonesian culture. This training contributes to the development of students' abilities and character as a creative and talented next generation. Service activities through Indonesian music training in Indonesian schools in Kuala Lumpur Malaysia are not only about learning music, but also about enriching students' experiences, strengthening cultural identity, and promoting cooperation between nations.
