Abstract

The challenge of implementing character education has an impact on the development of children's character. This study aims to describe the form of parenting using tueak serembeak in early character development and education in the Rejang tribe. This qualitative research uses a case study method with two male respondents. Data was collected by documentation, interviews, observations, and field notes and analysed using the Miles and Huberman stages. The theoretical study as the basis of research shows that tueak serembeak can form twelve characters in early childhood, responsibility, courage to take decisions, sharing, caring, survival, tenacity, cooperation, hard work, never give up, keep the spirit, dare to accept challenges, and be patient in dealing with problems. However, the findings in the field show that there are only four characters that appear, being responsible, sharing, caring and patient in dealing with problems. Other characters that appear not based on the teachings of tueak serembeakare independent, creative, and friendly characters. This happens because of the influence of external intervention, education in Air Raman Village, which has developed, advanced technology and open community life. A suggestion for further research, is experimental research based on tueak serembeak teachings that can explain more clearly the influence of this teaching on other aspects of child development. Abstract

Abstract

This study aims to explore how the use of picture story books can build reading interest in early childhood. A qualitative approach with descriptive methods was used in this study, involving observation, in-depth interviews, and documentation studies. The subjects of the study were children aged 3-6 years in several Kindergartens (TK), as well as their teachers and parents. The results of the study showed that picture story books were effective in increasing children's reading interest. Children who regularly interact with picture books showed a significant increase in reading interest, story comprehension, and active engagement during reading activities. Illustrations in books help children understand and remember stories better, as well as encourage their creativity and imagination. The use of picture books also contributes to the development of children's language skills, with increased vocabulary and confidence in speaking. Active support from parents and teachers has been shown to be important in fostering children's reading interest. Children who receive this support show stronger reading habits. The findings also show that children have a preference for books with bright colors, interesting characters, and adventurous stories

Abstract

The low level of student interest and participation in science and social science learning in elementary schools, particularly in the topic of Light and Its Properties, poses a challenge that affects the effectiveness of the learning process. This study aims to determine the effect of applying the Make a Match method in increasing students' interest and participation in learning. The research employed a qualitative approach with a case study method focused on a single fifth-grade student from class V-B at SDN Gobang 01, who initially showed very low learning engagement. Data were collected through observations and interviews during two phases of learning, before and after the implementation of the Make a Match method. The results showed that after applying the Make a Match method, there was a significant increase in both learning interest and participation. The student’s participation improved to 64%, as reflected in their increased willingness to ask questions, answer, and actively engage in classroom discussions. The student also demonstrated greater enthusiasm toward the subject matter. It can be concluded that the Make a Match method is effective in enhancing learning interest and participation among previously passive students, particularly in science subjects at the elementary level. This study recommends that teachers adopt more interactive and participatory teaching strategies to create enjoyable learning environments and foster comprehensive student engagement.
