Abstract

This research aims to determine the student’s readiness to learn English at the tertiary level through vocabulary tests. This research was carried out due to the low English skills at the tertiary level for English-specific purposes in accounting. Students find it difficult to use general English, which is possibly because of a lack of vocabulary. Furthermore, the researchers attempted to investigate this assumption further by using an online vocabulary test through the Oxford online vocabulary test with quantitative data analysis techniques. There were 233 tertiary students from 8 different classes who participated in this research, taking English for Accounting and English for Business as one of the courses in the first semester at Universitas Negeri Makassar. The tools for collecting data were the Oxford online vocabulary test, survey questionnaires, and observation. Quantitative data were used to collect data through questionnaires. The findings showed that the majority of respondents (38%) at the tertiary level were at A1 or the elementary English vocabulary level, which is inadequate to learn English for ESP at the university level. This research also found that the majority of respondents (50%) have learned English since elementary school which contradicts the vocabulary level test result. It can be concluded that students’ English vocabulary levels are insufficient for academic demands at the university level, particularly in preparing for ESP courses. Moreover, students’ vocabulary development shows inconsistent with the extended period of English learning since elementary with the increase of English vocabulary proficiency. However, integrating learning methods such as social media, online apps, website, games, movies, songs, and novels can be an effective approach for enhancing English learning in the classroom.

Abstract

Cash control is a crucial aspect of financial management for micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs), which often face challenges in maintaining liquidity stability and operational efficiency. This study aims to analyze the implementation of cash control systems in MSMEs and their impact on business sustainability. The method used is qualitative descriptive with a case study approach conducted on several MSMEs in the trade and service sectors. the results show that most MSMEs have not adequately implemented cash control systems, particularly in daily transaction recording, segregation of financial functions, and the use of cash budgets. As a result, MSMEs are at risk of experiencing operational fund shortages and difficulties in making financial decisions. this study recommends the need for education and assistance for MSMEs actors in implementing simple yet effective cash control systems to enhance business sustainability and competitiveness.

Due to this, students can have the knowledge and skills to actively build their understanding of the materials. Therefore, this study aims to find out the effectiveness of contextual teaching and learning in improving students' reading comprehension at SMP Negeri 2 Mappakasunggu Takalar. This study involved 56 students of seventh-grade students. This study used a quasi-experimental with two classes, the experimental class, and the control class. Data was collected through a reading test that was given to students before and after giving the Contextual Teaching and Learning method. In analyzing the data, the researchers used the SPSS version 22. The results of data analysis showed that the post-test mean value was 26.04 compared to without using CTL or conventional in the control class, the post-test mean value was 23.71. In addition, the calculation results of the SPSS version 22 application showed that the value of the t-count calculation was 2.3. Compared with table df = 54, namely (2.0) the significance level was 5%, t count > t table, then Ha was accepted and Ho was rejected. In other words, accept the alternative hypothesis (Ha) and reject the null hypothesis (Ho) to test both variables. From the results of hypothesis testing, it was proven that There was a significant effect between the use of contextual learning.

Abstract

This study aims to explore students' perceptions of the use of interactive digital media and its influence on learning motivation. Interactive digital media is expected to increase students' engagement in learning and motivate them to be more active in the learning process. This research uses a descriptive qualitative approach with data collection techniques through semi-structured interviews and observation. The sample used was 5-10 students selected as key informants in one junior high school. The data were analyzed using thematic analysis techniques which included data reduction, categorization, and meaning of emerging themes. The results show that students have a positive view of the use of interactive digital media in learning, which they feel can increase their motivation to learn. Based on these findings, it is recommended to utilize interactive digital media as an effective tool in the learning process to increase students' motivation and engagement. The implication of this study shows that the integration of interactive digital media in the learning curriculum can be an innovative strategy to create a more engaging learning environment, encourage student-centered learning, as well as support the development of 21st century skills such as critical thinking, collaboration, and digital literacy.

Abstract

This community service program was implemented through an English Camp integrating a Treasure Hunt activity using a Project Based Learning (PjBL) approach, aimed at improving students’ English competence, particularly speaking ability, communication fluency, and self-confidence. The program was conducted in Malino on 14–16 November 2025 and involved 148 accounting students who were divided into small groups and required to use English throughout all activities. The Treasure Hunt was designed as a collaborative project in which students completed a series of English-based tasks at four different posts, enabling them to experience learning through planning, discussion, teamwork, task completion, and reflective communication in authentic contexts. Data were obtained through direct observation, speaking performance assessment, and participants’ responses. The results indicate significant improvement in students’ confidence to speak, ability to understand English instructions, discipline, teamwork, and learning motivation. Furthermore, the program provided meaningful and authentic learning experiences that differ from formal classroom learning. Therefore, the Treasure-Hunt-Based English Camp with a Project Based Learning approach proved to be an effective and systematic strategy to enhance students’ English competence and is recommended as a sustainable model for strengthening English learning in higher education settings.

Abstract

This study aims to explore the influence of Problem-Based Learning (PBL) on improving students' critical thinking skills in schools. PBL is a learning method that prioritizes solving real-world problems as a means to develop critical thinking skills. This study used a pseudo-experimental design with two groups, namely the experimental group that followed problem-based learning and the control group that followed conventional learning. Data was collected through pre-tests and post-tests to measure changes in critical thinking skills, as well as questionnaires to explore students' perceptions of the learning methods applied. The results showed that the experimental group experienced a significant improvement in critical thinking skills compared to the control group. The implementation of PBL was also responded positively by students, who felt more engaged in learning and more motivated. These findings indicate that PBL is effective in improving students' critical thinking skills, with supporting factors such as student engagement and teacher readiness playing an important role. The implication of this study is the importance of teacher training and the provision of adequate resources to optimize the implementation of PBL in schools in Indonesia.
