Abstract

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the European Union's policy response to increasingly sophisticated tax avoidance practices facilitated by the rise of cryptocurrency between 2013 and 2023. It adopts a qualitative research method with a descriptive approach and draws upon literature studies of books, scholarly journals, policy reports, and official online sources. The phenomenon of digital globalization and the growing adoption of cryptocurrency as an alternative asset have posed critical challenges to the integrity of transnational taxation systems, particularly within the EU. This research employs concepts of regionalism, regional organizations, and tax avoidance theory related to crypto assets to evaluate the effectiveness of the EU’s policy instruments. Findings indicate that the European Union has progressively developed a regional policy framework, including anti-money laundering regulations on crypto transactions, enhanced roles for central authorities in overseeing digital assets, and more integrated cross-border information exchange mechanisms. These measures aim to limit the maneuvering space of tax avoiders, strengthen fiscal transparency, and reinforce the institutional legitimacy of regional governance in the face of digital economic transformations. The study contributes to the broader understanding of how regional organizations adapt to evolving economic realities and the shifting architecture of global taxation.

Abstract

This study investigates the impact of geopolitical factors on Bitcoin price movements from 2022 to 2024. Employing a qualitative, explanatory approach, the research draws on secondary data from scholarly literature, official reports, and credible online sources. The analysis is grounded in the Geopolitical Risk theory, focusing on six indicators: armed conflict, foreign policy changes, international sanctions, regional tensions, terrorism threats, and diplomatic crises. Findings reveal that armed conflicts, particularly the Russia-Ukraine war and the Iran-Israel confrontation, had the most significant and immediate effect on Bitcoin prices, often triggering panic selling and market downturns. Other geopolitical events, such as U.S.-China tensions and international arrest warrants, produced less pronounced effects or even positive sentiment, depending on investor perceptions. Regulatory developments, such as the UK's crypto legislation, were associated with short-term price gains, suggesting geopolitical stability can enhance market confidence. The study concludes that while Bitcoin operates outside traditional financial systems, it remains highly sensitive to global geopolitical developments. Armed conflicts continue to be the primary driver of volatility, underscoring the importance of geopolitical awareness for investors and policymakers in the evolving digital asset landscape.

Abstract

Social rehabilitation is a process of refunctionalization and development that enables persons with disabilities to perform their social functions appropriately in society through self-adjustment, accessibility services, guidance, and assistance. This study aims to identify and describe the accountability of the Social Service Agency in the social rehabilitation for persons with disabilities in Medan City, using a descriptive research method with a qualitative approach. Data collection was conducted through interviews, observation, documentation, and literature review, with data analysis meliputi data reduction, data presentation, conclusion drawing, and verification. Data validity was ensured using source and technique triangulation. The research findings indicate six obstacles affecting accountability: (1) the absence of Standard Operating Procedures for social rehabilitation services, (2) the slow feedback process regarding public complaints, (3) low public enthusiasm in understanding service mechanisms, (4) the Performance Accountability Report of Government Agencies (LAKIP) not being published openly and periodically, (5) limited human resources and public facilities that are not yet disability-friendly, and (6) the unsuitability of the quality of disability aids and their uneven distribution. All these obstacles have caused the social rehabilitation program to not run effectively, efficiently, and accountably.
