Abstract

Abstract The focus of this study is to analyze the services of medical personnel for Covid-19 patients in the framework of Emmanuel Levinas' responsibility ethics. The total service they have been providing is an ethical consequence of their encounter with the faces of Covid-19 patients as the Others. This could happen because the faces of Covid-19 patients show their nakedness as weak human beings. Moreover, this responsibility is also the impact of the awareness that the Others’ faces bear the imprint of the Infinite One. Here, Covid-19 patients have become means of the Infinite One giving commands to serve to medical personnel. This encounter in turn has succeeded in transcending medical personnel in their responsibility for Covid-19 patients. The methodology used in this study is a critical reading of news items in Kompas daily of April 26, 2020, and in Tempo magazine, edition of January 3, 2021, regarding the total service of medical personnel. These news items were then elaborated according to Emmanuel Levinas' philosophy of responsibility ethics. The findings of this study are that the responsibility of medical personnel for Covid-19 patients is an ethical consequence of their encounter with the patients’ faces.

Abstract

This study aims to explain human dignity in the Gaudium et Spes review dealing with acts of terrorism that occurred in Indonesia. According to Gaudium et Spes, humans are the image of God who has a reason, conscience, and free will. This nature makes humans special creatures created by God. So humans are also called to love and respect each other's dignity as imago Dei. Based on this, acts of terrorism that result in the loss of another person's life are seen as crimes. In comparison, human life and death are only in the hands of Allah. The methodology used in this study is a qualitative method by conducting a critical reading of the Gaudium et Spes document on human dignity. This theme is then analyzed with the issue of terrorism that occurred in Indonesia. The findings of this study are that acts of terrorism are contrary to the teachings of the Church which upholds human dignity. This can be seen in human nature as the image of God and as a free and independent person.

Abstract

This study aims to explain Jean Baudrillard's concept of hyperreality specifically the objectification of the subject in the context of contemporary culture. According to Jean Baudrillard, in the world of hyperreality which is controlled by the latest information and communication technology, humans have lost their subjectivity. The object has controlled the subject so that there is no other choice for the subject but to allow himself to be in the control of the object. The objectification character of this subject is evident in the subject's passivity when using the internet, being in front of the television, and also the advertising machine. According to Baudrillard, in the face of these three forms of contemporary culture, the subject has been reduced to an object so that the subjectivity and dimensions of the subject's consciousness become dead. The methodology used in this study is a qualitative method by conducting a literature study. The author specifically explores Jean Baudrillard's writings entitled “Simulacra and Simulation” (1981) which discusses a lot about the concept of hyperreality. The findings of this study are (1) subjects in contemporary culture have been reduced to objects through the simulation and simulacra skills of mass media technology, especially the internet, television, and advertising; (2) the objectification of this subject can be countered by re-realizing human subjectivity, namely the subject of consciousness.

Abstract

This study examines the relationship between democracy education management in schools or universities and student political participation in demonstrations. Focusing on five major demonstrations in Indonesia over the past decade, it explores how democracy education shapes students' political awareness and involvement in social actions, while also contributing to the development of Pancasila Student profiles. The research uses a literature review method to delve into issues surrounding democracy education and the Pancasila Student profile. Empirical data was gathered from media reports, particularly Kompas daily, which has extensively documented student demonstrations in Indonesia. The findings suggest that democracy education management in educational institutions significantly influences student political participation in national and societal life, as envisioned in the Pancasila Student profile.

Abstract

This article aims to identify school management strategies in addressing juvenile delinquency through preventive and curative approaches, considering the important role of schools as the second environment after family in shaping student behavior. Juvenile delinquency has become a complex issue in the school environment, often influenced by various internal and external factors, such as family background, peer environment, and the quality of guidance provided. This study employs a qualitative method with a literature review approach to examine various research and theoretical concepts related to school management strategies in dealing with juvenile delinquency. Data collection in this study was conducted using documentation techniques combined with the PRISMA (Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses) approach to ensure a systematic process of literature search and selection. Research findings indicate that preventive approaches, such as character education, strict rule enforcement, and proactive counseling, are effective in preventing students from engaging in deviant behavior. On the other hand, curative approaches are also important in addressing students already involved in delinquency through intervention actions, counseling, and collaboration with external parties such as psychologists or counselors. Both approaches complement each other in creating a school environment that supports positive change in students.

Abstract

This study aims to explain the function of the Mbaru Gendang as a public sphere in resolving land conflicts in Manggarai. The Mbaru Gendang as the traditional house of the Manggarai people has become a central place in every public policy making, including in resolving land conflicts. Manggarai people's awareness of the function of the Mbaru Gendang can be explored more deeply by using Jurgen Habermas' philosophy about public sphere. According to Habermas, a public sphere is not just there for locative information, but a condition that enables a joint discourse, openly and freely, for the sake of reaching a public decision. Thus, a public sphere is conditioning rational communication and dialogue through a discursive process. The methodology used in this study is qualitative phenomenological by conducting interviews with Manggarai traditional leaders. The results of the interviews are then elaborated with Habermas' philosophy about public sphere. The finding of this study is that the Mbaru Gendang has become a space for discourse in resolving land conflicts in Manggarai. This issue requires open and free rational communication and dialogue.
