Abstract

The climate change crisis triggered by the greenhouse gases emission because of the usage of coal have pushed for the establishment of UNFCCC dan the COP26 meeting, where Indonesia is actively participating. This research aims to analyze the implications of the COP26 results towards the environmental policy in Indonesia, along with the opportunities and challenges faced by the mining sector in implementing those policies. Using the neoliberal theory, qualitative approach, and case study method through secondary data analysis, this research produces two main findings. First, the COP26 results are integrated into Indonesia’s environmental policy through the roadmap towards net zero emission, constructed with the International Energy Agency (IEA). This roadmap includes the early retirement plan of coal power plants, the development of renewable energy, the super grid technology, CCS/CCUS, and the conversion of electronic vehicle. Second, even though there are some significant opportunities to achieve that commitment, Indonesia also faces huge challenges, including the coal dependency, regulation that is not optimal yet, and concerns towards improper fundings.

Abstract

Peace is both a need and a necessity for the Indonesian nation which has diversity. The difference that God has given to Indonesia is a gift that must be maintained and managed. Therefore, to avoid divisions and conflicts resulting from differences, it is only fitting that the Indonesian people are equipped with the knowledge and skills to manage this diversity. By focusing on the youth generation, as social agents in a peace society can be realized. Tunas Daud School, which was chosen to be a partner, houses students from various backgrounds and cultures. As a school built on Christian values in a province where the majority adheres to Balinese Hinduism, the potential for conflict within the individual and group spheres is high, both in teaching and learning settings and in non-formal settings. In the process, a series of participatory interactive training activities were implemented for junior and senior high school students at this school. The team provides an understanding of peace and conflict resolution through nine training modules with a constructivist approach packed with various methods adapted for students in the age range of 12 to 18 years. The application of this skills training yielded very good overall results with the initial objectives being achieved. It also appears that there is an influence shown through the results of the pre-test and post-test as well as the evaluation results of the facilitator and participants.

In addition, other external factors namely international organizations, non-governmental organizations, encouragement from other countries, and cooperation between countries play a role in the reversal of the decision. From the results of the discussion that the author has described, national interests contribute to the formation of Germany's foreign policy.

Abstract

The European Union (EU) has implemented stringent trade regulations, particularly regarding consumer privacy protection governed by the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR). Countries or organizations facing privacy issues or lacking adequate data protection standards must encounter barriers in business expansion in the EU. Through a case study of Alibaba, this research specifically analyzes the challenges and GDPR compliance strategies in business expansion within the European Union. The study investigates the implementation of GDPR in the EU and analyzes all the strategies and actions taken by Alibaba to comply with GDPR. The research framework is based on Neoliberalism theory, as well as international trade concepts, privacy and personal data concepts, public authority concepts, and multinational corporation concepts. The research employs a qualitative approach with descriptive research methods and a case study. Data were obtained from secondary sources and analyzed using narrative analysis techniques. The study analyzes the economic relationship between the EU and China as a background, reviews the development of consumer privacy protection regulations in the EU, and analyzes Alibaba's expansion strategy in the EU. Based on the research findings, GDPR does not allow countries/companies with privacy issues and inadequate data protection to operate in the EU. As a company meeting these violation criteria, Alibaba successfully expanded in the EU by addressing internal issues and establishing regulations compliant with GDPR in each of its subsidiaries.

Abstract

Abstract

Indonesia, as the world’s largest producer of nickel, faces significant challenges in leveraging its resources for economic development. These challenges are compounded by external pressures, including the U.S. Inflation Reduction Act (IRA), and internal issues related to China’s dominance in Indonesia’s nickel sector. Despite its vast nickel reserves, Indonesia is excluded from the green incentives provided under the IRA, which threatens to undermine its strategic position in the global nickel supply chain. The study seeks to understand the underlying factors driving this exclusion and the impacts of China’s dominance on Indonesia’s nickel industry. This research employs an explanatory qualitative approach, drawing from literature reviews and interviews with an industry expert. The methodology focuses on interpreting the interrelations between international trade policies, environmental sustainability, and Indonesia’s domestic challenges. The study identifies three key factors behind Indonesia’s exclusion from the IRA: the lack of a Free Trade Agreement (FTA) with the United States, environmental concerns over Indonesia’s mining practices, and the significant presence of Chinese companies in Indonesia’s nickel sector. China’s dominance has also led to environmental degradation, reduced domestic industrial competitiveness, and economic dependency. To address these challenges, the research proposes that Indonesia negotiate an FTA with the United States. Such an agreement would create a framework for accessing IRA incentives, strengthen Indonesia’s economic sovereignty, and mitigate China’s dominance. While the negotiation process will require strong political will and careful diplomacy, it presents a viable path for Indonesia to secure its economic and geopolitical interests.
