Abstract

Peace is both a need and a necessity for the Indonesian nation which has diversity. The difference that God has given to Indonesia is a gift that must be maintained and managed. Therefore, to avoid divisions and conflicts resulting from differences, it is only fitting that the Indonesian people are equipped with the knowledge and skills to manage this diversity. By focusing on the youth generation, as social agents in a peace society can be realized. Tunas Daud School, which was chosen to be a partner, houses students from various backgrounds and cultures. As a school built on Christian values in a province where the majority adheres to Balinese Hinduism, the potential for conflict within the individual and group spheres is high, both in teaching and learning settings and in non-formal settings. In the process, a series of participatory interactive training activities were implemented for junior and senior high school students at this school. The team provides an understanding of peace and conflict resolution through nine training modules with a constructivist approach packed with various methods adapted for students in the age range of 12 to 18 years. The application of this skills training yielded very good overall results with the initial objectives being achieved. It also appears that there is an influence shown through the results of the pre-test and post-test as well as the evaluation results of the facilitator and participants.

Abstract

The phenomenon of medical tourism from Indonesia to Penang, Malaysia, has continued to show a significant upward trend in recent years. In today's digital era, social media platforms such as X (formerly Twitter) have become active public discussion arenas, places where netizens share experiences, provide recommendations, and even consider decisions to undergo treatment abroad. This study aims to explore how digital narratives related to the practice of seeking medical treatment in Penang are formed, spread, and negotiated by Indonesians on the X platform. Using a netnography approach, this study analyzes tweets containing keywords related to treatment in Penang, revealing the dynamics of conversations in various discussions in the digital space. The results of the analysis identified four main themes that dominated the conversation: (1) ease of access and convenience of services; (2) exchange of information and recommendations between users; (3) crisis of trust in domestic health services; and (4) considerations of price, quality, and added value offered by services in Penang. These findings indicate that the decision to seek medical treatment abroad is not only influenced by medical needs or individual preferences, but also by social constructions formed in the digital space. Social media plays an important role as an e-WOM (electronic word of mouth) channel that shapes public perception and preferences for cross-country health services. This research is expected to contribute to the development of health communication and digital culture studies, as well as being a basis for thinking about managing information and health service reputation more strategically in the era of social media.

Abstract

Singkawang, known as the “Hong Kong of Borneo,” is one of the most tolerant cities in Indonesia, where the Chinese ethnic group, with its distinctive cultural values, is the dominant cultural group in the city. With a population originating from diverse cultural backgrounds, interactions through inter-ethnic marriages, especially between Chinese, Dayak, and Malay ethnic groups, produce various dynamics of acculturation. This study aims to analyze the communication dynamics of cultural value acculturation in inter-ethnic marriages involving Chinese, Dayak, or Malay (Tidayu) ethnic groups in Singkawang. Using a phenomenological approach, this study explores the experiences of married Tidayu couples to understand how cultural differences are harmonized, shared identities are built, and family and social traditions are integrated. Data were obtained through interviews, observations, and literature review. The results of the study show that through inter-ethnic marriages Tidayu, Singkawang society has developed to be more inclusive by accepting each other. In the established dynamics of communication, it is important to maintain customs as part of efforts to adapt and acculturate culture. Communication dynamics cannot be separated from the worldview of the individuals involved. The results of this study are expected to have practical benefits in strengthening unity in the multicultural landscape of Singkawang, especially when facing the challenges of ethnic diversity.

Abstract

The concept of All Gender Facilities has sparked controversy in many countries, particularly due to user concerns about the presence of other genders in private spaces such as changing rooms. This study aims to explore the acceptance of All Gender Facilities among Jabodetabek residents, focusing on their use in toilets and changing rooms. Employing a qualitative approach with a case study method, the research seeks to understand and analyze public responses influenced by social and cultural norms. Data were collected through in-depth interviews with eight purposively selected informants. The findings reveal that awareness and initial experiences with All Gender Facilities are shaped by media exposure and personal experiences when using such facilities. Security and cleanliness, encompassing the design and management of the space, are key factors influencing user privacy and comfort. Cultural norms significantly impact the acceptance of All Gender Facilities, emphasizing their role in societal resistance or approval. Support and neutrality toward All Gender Facilities are conditional, reflecting varying perspectives. The multicultural community in Jabodetabek demonstrates resistance to All Gender Facilities based on cultural and religious considerations, yet from a functional standpoint, these facilities are seen as acceptable.
