Abstract

This article examines the Mapacakke’ tradition, which is alive and practiced by the community of Pangalli Village as part of their religious and social expressions in daily life. This study aims to uncover the values of the Qur’an contained within it. The research employs a qualitative method with a phenomenological approach, which seeks to understand the meaning of the tradition as experienced, believed, and interpreted by its practitioners. Data were collected through observation, in-depth interviews with religious leaders, traditional leaders, and community members, as well as documentation. The results indicate that Mapacakke’ is understood as a religious-social ritual serving to seek safety, bring inner peace, and strengthen social bonds. Its implementation involves preparation stages, a central ceremony consisting of collective prayer and the sprinkling of water, and a concluding communal meal. This tradition embodies Qur’anic values such as ta‘āwun (mutual aid), syūrāh (consultation), silaturahmi (social bonding), collective dhikr, and the reinforcement of tawhid, which are naturally internalized within the community’s cultural practices. Thus, Mapacakke’ represents the harmonization of local customs and Islamic teachings, and demonstrates how the values of the Qur’an are lived out and actualized within the socio-cultural context of the Pangalli Village community.

Abstract

Contemporary Qur'anic interpretation faces a significant challenge in the form of a persistent gap between the revealed text and continuously evolving social realities. This article aims to examine in depth how M. Quraish Shihab contextualizes the tahlili approach in responding to contemporary issues through his monumental work, Tafsir Al-Misbah. The study employs a qualitative descriptive-analytic approach grounded in library research methodology. The primary data source is Tafsir Al-Misbah by M. Quraish Shihab, while secondary sources comprise a range of peer-reviewed journals, classical and modern works of Qur'anic exegesis, and other relevant supporting literature. Data were analyzed through content analysis and comparative-critical methods. Three principal findings emerge from this study: first, Quraish Shihab actualizes social verses by employing a contextualization mechanism that integrates linguistic, historical, and sociological approaches; second, the wasathiyah mindset serves as the epistemological framework for cultivating inclusive and humanistic human relations; and third, Quraish Shihab's exegesis functions simultaneously as social critique and as an instrument of moral reorientation for modern society. This study recommends that Quraish Shihab's contextual exegetical approach be adopted as a developmental model for Qur'anic studies in Indonesia, one that is responsive to contemporary social and cultural dynamics.

Abstract

The rapid advancement of digital technology in the era of disruption has reshaped family dynamics and raised concerns about parenting crises, moral deterioration, and the weakening of spiritual bonds among young Muslims. This study aims to examine the actualization of Wahbah az-Zuhaili’s thought in Tafsir al-Munir on Q.S. Luqman verses 13–19 as a Qur’anic parenting framework responsive to the challenges of modern digital life. Employing a qualitative library research approach, the study applies thematic tafsir and content analysis to interpret the educational values embedded in these verses. The findings indicate that az-Zuhaili conceptualizes Q.S. Luqman verses 13–19 as an integrated Islamic educational framework comprising four core parenting values: tawhid as the foundation of children’s theological identity, birrul walidain as the basis of moral relations, muraqabah as divine awareness that cultivates personal integrity, and social character as a means of balancing individual piety with collective responsibility. These values are relevant and applicable as practical guidance for Muslim parents in strengthening faith-based parenting amid the complexities of digital disruption. The study concludes that Qur’anic parenting derived from az-Zuhaili’s interpretation offers a normative and practical framework for reinforcing Islamic family education, preserving children’s spiritual identity, and guiding parental roles in the contemporary digital era.
