Abstract

An illustrated description of Triposporium novoguineensei Rifai sp. nov. is presented based on a specimen collected at Garaina, New Guinea.A special visitor award from the Australian Government enabled me to attend the 42nd Australian and New Zealand Association for the Advancement of Science (ANZAAS) Congress held in August 1970 in Port Moresby (Territory of Papua and New Guinea), and to participate in a botanical and agricultural post-congress tour around the Territory. The ample opportunity to collect fungi during this tour was fully utilized and a specimen which appeared to represent an undescribed species of Triposporium was found in Garaina Tea Estate, Garaina, Territory of Papua.

Abstract

A new dacrymycetaceous fungus is described and illustrated baaed on specimens found growing on Schima, Vaccinium, Casuarina and other decayed wood in mountain areas in Java.

Abstract

The lectotype specimen of Podoeonis megasperma is selected and this species is reclassified as Exosporium megaspermum (Boedijn) Rifai, a newly proposed combination.An illustrated redescription is presented.

Abstract

The host of this smut variety is identified as Panicum repens L. The fungus is considered conspecific with Ustilago overeemii Cif., which sub- sequently is reclassified as Sporisorium overeemii (Cif.) Rifai, comb. nov.

Abstract

After a long illness, Prof. Ir. Kusnoto Setyodiwiryo died peacefully in his home in Bogor on 29 April 1981. He was the first Indonesian to become the Director of the Botanical Gardens of Indonesia, the forerunner of the National Biological Institute.

Abstract

Melanographium laxum Rifai is described and illustrated, based on colonies growing on palm petioles collected in Bogor Botanic Gardens, Java. Unlike the other members of Melanographium, the present species does not form tufted or fasciculated conidiophores.

Abstract

Single ascospore isolates of Sarawakus succisus Rifai produce a Trichoderma like anamorph. The hypocreaceous nature of the genus Savawakus Lloyd is therefore indicated. A detailed illustrated description of this conidial state is presented.

Abstract

Two species of the hyphomycete genus Tetraploa are reported from Java, namely the widespread Tetraploa aristata and the newly described Tetraploa javanica. Illustrated descriptions are presented for both species.

Reinwardtia 12 (4): 275 – 276.–– A new species of Endophragmiella is described and illustrated based on a specimen found growing on dead branchlets of Morinda citrifolia in Bogor, West Java, and compared with its closely related congeners thus far known.

Abstract

RIFAI, M.A. 2008. Another note on Podoconis megasperma Boedijn (Hyphomycetes). Reinwardtia 12 (4): 277– 279. –– Exosporium megaspermum (Boedijn) Rifai and Exosporium ampullaceum (Petch) M.B.Ellis are transferred to Neopodoconis Rifai, a newly created genus extracted from Exosporium Link based on the nature of the true septation of their rostrate conidia. Two new combinations, Neopodoconis ampullacea (Petch) Rifai and Neopodoconis megasperma (Boedijn) Rifai, accordingly are proposed.
