Abstract

ABSTRACTThe study discusses Short Message Services (SMS’s) used to express “Happy Idul Fitri” in relation to politeness principle and cooperative principle.The aims of the research are (1) to describe the way of writing the SMS’s, (2) to explain the sentence variety of the SMS’s, (3) to describe the language used in the SMS’s, (4) to explain the variety of relation between the writers and the reader of the SMS’s, and (5) to describe communicative act found in the SMS’s.This research is descriptive-qualitative in nature. The data are 54 SMS’s used to express “Happy Idul Fitri” in 2011. The SMS’s were received by the reseacher from her friends and colleagues. All of the SMS’s were analyzed to reveal the five aims of the research as stated above.The expressions of “Happy Idul Fitri” are found in the initial, middle, and final parts of the SMS’s. Some of them made use of associative language.Due to their variety, the sentences applied in the SMS’s expressing “Happy Idul Fitri” are (1) declarative, (2) imperative, and (3) exclamatory.The languages used in the SMS’s include (1) Indonesian, (2) Indonesian-Arabic, (3) Indonesian-Javanese, (4) Javanese, (5) Indonesian-English, and (6) Indonesian-Arabic-English.While, the relations between the writers and the reader of the SMS’s are of five kinds, namely (1) intimate parallel, (2) respectful parallel, (3) lower respectful writers, (4) lower intimate writers, and (5) neutral parallel.The variety of communicative act used in the SMS’s comprises (1) to express “Happy Idul Fitri”, (2)to apologize, (3) to expect, and (4) to thank.

Abstract

This study tried to answer three questions, namely (1) what are the forms of personal pronoun used to address and to refer to?, (2) what are the factors which influence the use of personal pronoun to address and to refer to?, and (3) what are the degrees of intimacy between the speaker and the listener in the use of personal pronoun to address and to refer to? The research is qualitative-descriptive in nature. It is based on 60 utterances taken from short message services (SMS), BlackBerry Messagers (BBM), and writings in accounts or comments in facebooks. The result of the research indicated that (1) personal pronoun used (a) to address is the second personal pronoun - singular and plural and (b) to refer to is the first personal pronoun - singular and plural as well as the third personal pronoun - singular and plural, (2) the factors influencing the use of personal pronoun to address and to refer to in 10 communicative acts include (a) social environment, (b) local language, and (c) national culture concerning courtesy, and (3) the degrees of intimacy between the speaker and the listener comprise four - (a) intimate, (b) respectful, (c) neutral, and (d) respectful-intimate.

Abstract

This research aims to know and explain the characters, plot, setting, theme, and the role of women which covers three aspects, namely the education of women, the position of the woman in the family, and the role of the social character of women in society. Use a descriptive qualitative approach. Data source: Endah Alberthiene Athirah novel works. Characterizations: Athirah, Kerra, Mufidah, Jusuf Kalla, Haji, and Mohamad. The depiction of the character of the offender/figure using the techniques ekspositori and dramatic. Plot: plot mix. The setting of the place took place in Makassar. The setting time of incident at dawn, noon, afternoon, and evening in 1920-1970. A major theme in the novel is the struggle of a woman dipoligami. A minor theme is patience and sincerity, kindness his wife, struggle, love and family. Athirah and Kerra gets informal education, Mufidah get formal education and informal education. The position of the woman in the family as a son, wife, and mother of his children. Athirah is a very obedient son. A very obedient son Kerra. Mufidah and the very diligent. Athirah a wife who loves her husband, she continued to fight polygamy victims although finally defeated and resigned. Kerra are a wife to her husband, she was a victim of polygamy since resigned to accept the situation. Mufidah a wife who always supports the decision of her husband, she was the girl's anti polygamy. Athirah deeply loved his children. Kerra a mother loves her children. Mufidah is concerned his children. The social role of the woman in society: active women figures Athirah follow activities. Kerra not addressed. Mufidah involved in the wedding of his friend. Keywords: characters, plot, setting, theme, the role of women

Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan (1) mendeskripsikan bentuk peribahasa yang memberi sumbanganterhadap pendidikan karakter, (2) menguraikan makna peribahasa yang memberi sumbangan terhadap pendidikankarakter, dan (3) menunjukkan pendidikan karakter yang didukung oleh peribahasa. Penelitian ini termasukpenelitian deskriptif kualitatif berdasarkan 318 data yang dikumpulkan dari dua kamus peribahasa, dianalisisuntuk menjawab tiga permasalahan penelitian. Hasil penelitian ini (1) Peribahasa dibedakan ke dalam tigabentuk, yaitu pepatah (158 data), pemeo (152 data), dan perumpamaan (8 data). Susunan kata dan kalimatdalam peribahasa menunjukkan keajegan dengan pola (a) empat kata: dua-dua, (b) enam kata: tiga-tiga, (c)delapan kata: empat-empat, dan (d) kalimat dengan tiga klausa, (2) Peribahasa mengandung nasihat danungkapan yang bernilai positif. antara lain (a) nasihat agar religius, (b) nasihat agar rendah hati, (c) nasihatagar adil, (d) nasihat agar setia dan dapat dipercaya, (e) nasihat agar menjadi pemimpin yang baik, (f) nasihatagar santun, (g) nasihat agar berhati-hati, (h) nasihat agar tidak lupa asal-usulnya, (i) nasihat agar sosial dantoleran, dan (j) nasihat agar tangguh, (3) Pendidikan karakter yang dikandung dalam peribahasa, yaitu peduli,tangguh, religius, jujur, kreatif, komunikatif, dan nasionalis.Kata kunci: peribahasa, makna peribahasa. pendidikan karakter

Abstract

The aim of this study is to describe formal forms, marker characteristics, and meanings of imperative sentences used in Catholic prayer. The research  made use of descriptive qualitative method. The data were analyzed using the following techniques:  (1) paraphrasing, (2) deletion, (3) substitution, (4) expansion, and (5) permutation. The results indicated that (1) the formal forms consist of (a) transitive active imperatives (117 in number), (b) intransitive active imperatives (37 in number), and (c) passive imperatives (4 in number), (2) the  imperative sentences are characteristized by four markers, namely (a) the absence of functional subject  (120 in number),  (b) the usage of particle -lah (109 in number), (c) prefix deletion (92 in number), and (d) the inversion of order, placing verbs at the beginning of sentences, and (3) there are five kinds of meaning of imperative sentences, namely (a) polite command (104 in number), (b) invitation (34 in number), (c) request (14 in number), (d) prohibition/negative command (5 in number), and (e) common order/command (1 in number).

Abstract

Research on the use of language, sentence, the content of pornography and connotations of pornography, and the content of character education in the campursari song text are aimed to describing at: (1) language, (2) sentence variations, (3)  pornographic content and pornographic connotations, and (4) content character education in the campursari song text. This study included qualitative descriptive research. The research data are in the form of words, phrases, clauses, and sentences. The data source for this study is ten songs downloaded from the internet. The results of the study: (1) ten songs analyzed by nine song texts used Javanese as the title and one song used the Javanese language and Indonesian language. Of the ten songs, all song texts use Javanese, there are mixed Indonesian language codes into Javanese, mixed Javanese language codes and English into Indonesian, Indonesian language code switching to Javanese, and there are letters written that violate General Guidelines Enhanced Javanese Spelling (PUEBJYD), (2) the use of sentences consists of: (a) declarative sentences, (b) interrogative sentences, and (c) imperative sentences, (3) there are six songs containing pornography and connotations of pornography, and (4) the value of prominent character education is creative, besides that it is a violation of polite and religious values.

Abstract

This study aimed to describe: (1) grammatical aspects, (2) lexical aspects, (3) contextual, and (4) the content of character education in children's song texts. This study included a descriptive qualitative study of ten song texts namely "Bintang Kejora", "Burung Kutilang", "Dua Mata Saya", "Kebunku", "Kring Kring", "Layang-Layang", "Naik Delman Istimewa", "Naik Gunung","Naik Kereta Api", and “Pelangi". The research results show that (1) grammatical aspects include (a) reference: personal, demonstrative, and comparative, (b) substitution, (c) ellipsis, (d) conjunction, and (e) repetition, (2) lexical aspects include (a) synonymy, (b) antonymy, (c) hyponymy, (d) collocation, (3) the contextual includes the social context of beauty, excitement and rural culture, and (4) the contents of character education include (a) caring, (b) tough, (c) creative, (d) religious, and (e) polite and communicative.

Abstract

The aims of this research are to know the language varieties that are used, to describe the sentence construction, to reveal the communicative act, and to expose the contended charactereducation in political slogans. This is a descriptive qualitative research on 37 political slogans retrieved from news, political portal, or political party’s website on internet. From this research, it is shown that (1) the language varieties that are used in political slogan: 28 data of Indonesian langauge, 7 data of slang expressions, 1 datum of Javanesse language, and 1 data of English language, (2) the sentence constructions that are applied are 20 data of exclamative sentences, 11 data of declarative sentences, 5 data of imperative sentences, and 1 datum of interogative sentence, (3) communicative acts that are shown in 37 data is clasiffied into asserting (20 data), suggesting (11 data), and inviting (6 data), (4)  there are 7 educational values found in political slogans, they are (a) 11 data of caring values, (b) 8 data of creative values, (c) 6 data of tough values, (d) 4 data of nasionalism values, (e) 3 data of politeness and communicativeness value, (f) 3 data of religious values, and (g) 2 data of honesty values.

Abstract

Penelitian ini dilatarbelakangi oleh adanya nama-nama jalan di Kota Madiun dengan ciri khas masing-masing daerah. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menemukan wujud penamaan dan mendeskripsikan makna jalan di Kota Madiun. Metode yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini adalah kualitatif kajian semantik. Sumber data dalam penelitian ini adalah nama jalan (tempat), dokumen penamaan jalan (maps), dan sejarawan. Data dalam penelitian ini berupa kata atau frasa nama-nama jalan di kota Madiun. Teknik pengumpulan data berupa dokumentasi dalam bentuk tulisan dan gambar. Teknik analisis data dalam penelitian ini ada tiga tahap, yaitu (1) menganalisis pola penamaan berdasarkan jumlah kata, jumlah suku kata, penanda, dan kelas kata, (2) menganalisis makna nama jalan dan mengaitkan nama dengan referensinya, dan (3) menganalisis ada atau tidaknya sumbangan nilai historis dan kebangsaan pada nama jalan. Penelitian ini menghasilkan temuan nama-nama jalan di Kota Madiun menggunakan 2 kata, 4 suku kata, kelas kata berupa nomina, dan penanda terbanyak adalah nama pahlawan. Ditemukan 14 makna dari nama-nama jalan di Kota Madiun. Penamaan jalan memperoleh sumbangan nilai historis berupa perubahan nama dan adanya objek penanda, sedangkan mendapat sumbangan nilai kebangsaan melalui nama-nama jalan berupa nama pahlawan dan organisasi sebagai pengenangan jasa dan perwujudan cinta terhadap Indonesia.

Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan mendeskripsikan pola penamaan, makna, dan kandungan pendidikan karakter yang terkandung dalam nama-nama mahasiswa Universitas Katolik Widya Mandala Surabaya kampus kota Madiun. Data berupa nama 112 mahasiswa yang diperoleh dari data di Biro Akademik Kemahasiswaan (BAK) Universitas Katolik Widya Mandala Surabaya kampus Kota Madiun dianalisis secara deskriptif kualitatif. Hasil penelitian (1) pola penamaan dengan (a) jumlah kata 3 dan 2 dan jumlah suku kata 5-9, (b) penanda jenis kelamin: perempuan dengan Putri, Ayu, -ani, -anti, -wati, -sari, -yanti, -ningsih, -ningrum, dan penanda feminin dalam bahasa Arab dan nama baptis dan laki-laki dengan Putra, -o/-a, -wan, penanda maskulin dalam bahasa Arab dan nama baptis, (c) kelas kata terdiri atas nomina, adjektiva, dan numeralia, (d) pembentukan kata dengan pengimbuhan dan penggabungan kata, dan (e) pengaruh agama Islam dengan bahasa Arab dan agama Katolik dengan nama permandian/baptis, (2) makna nama mahasiswa berupa harapan atau doa, penanda waktu kelahiran, dan penanda urutan kelahiran, dan (3) pendidikan karakter yang terkandung dalam nama mahasiswa adalah religius, peduli, tangguh, kreatif, dan jujur.Names are made unique and therefore interesting to be analyzed since they correlate closely with language and culture. This research aimed at describing the naming pattern and the meaning containing in the names of Widya Mandala Surabaya Catholic University, Madiun Campus students. The data of the research are 112 names of Widya Mandala Surabaya Catholic University, Madiun Campus students which are obtained from the Student Academic Center (BAK) of Widya Mandala Surabaya Catholic University, Madiun Campus. The data are analized descriptive qualitatively. The research result shows that (1) the naming pattern (a) containing 3 and 2 words and 5-9 syllables, (b) containing gender identification: female name signified with Putri, Ayu, -ani, -anti, -wati, -sari, -yanti, -ningsih, -ningrum and other signifiers in Arab language and baptist name, male names signified with Putra, -o/-a, -wan, masculine signifiers in Arab and baptist name, (c) containing some class of words; noun, adjective, and numbering, (d) forming names by adding suffix and words combination, and (e) there found the influence of Islam, Arabic, and Catholic baptist names, (2) the students’ names containing wishes and prayers, birth time signifiers, and birth order signifiers.
