Abstract

Background: When humans enter the old phase, humans will experience physical, mental, social, and health changes and many older people feel alone, frustrated, and finally lose confidence in their health. One of the efforts to improve the health of the elderly can be made by increasing physical activity such as prayer. Objective: Our study aims to review the effect of Islamic prayer (shalat) on the cognitive function of moslems aged 60 and over.Method: Journal searches are conducted with English studies relevant to the topic and are carried out using ProQuest, SagePub, PubMed, Google Scholar, and Semantics databases. The journal year used is limited from 2015 to 2020. The related journals used in this research are four journals. Results: The study results reported that about 95% of the elderly said that praying five times a day would help their cognitive function healthy. These similarities suggest that exercise can help older adults maintain their cognitive abilities, whether prayer or exercise only. Prayer as physical activity may be beneficial for general and selective cognitive aspects, especially among older adults. Conclusion: prayer is an activity that can be done by the elderly and has several sound effects on cognitive function.

Abstract

Background: The increasing population of the elderly can cause health problems in the elderly, including a decrease in cognitive function that is clearly visible in memory and intelligence. This can be prevented by doing activities that maximize brain power through increasing spiritual activities, such as reading the Qur'an.Objective: To determine the effect of reading the Qur'an on cognitive function in the elderly. The study population was 60 years of age or older, with an indicator of reading the Qur'an regularly every day. Cognitive function was assessed using the Mini-Mental State Examination (MMSE).Method: The type of literature study used is the literature review by assessing, identifying, and interpreting all findings on a research topic. Conducted using PubMed and Google Scholar restricted from 2010-2020. The keywords used in the article search were elderly, reading the Qur'an, and cognitive function. Results: Reading the Qur'an has a significant impact on the cognitive function of the elderly. Results: This study used seven journals, where five journals were obtained from Google Scholar and two journals from PubMed. Conclusion: From several studies collected, it can be concluded that the longer the duration (>15 minutes) and the more regularly the elderly read the Qur'an, the better their cognitive function.

Abstract

Muslim families in coastal areas face complex ecological challenges stemming from marine resource exploitation, pollution, and limited environmental awareness. This study employs a qualitative empirical approach, with data collected through observation, interviews, and documentation of Muslim households in coastal communities. Data were analyzed using a descriptive-analytical method and interpreted within the framework of fiqh al-bi’ah (Islamic environmental jurisprudence). The findings reveal that while positive practices—such as the provision of household waste bins—are already in place, unsustainable behaviors persist, including open burning and sea dumping once bins are full. The availability of household waste bins serves as the primary supporting factor for pro-environmental behavior, whereas the absence of village-level Temporary Disposal Sites (TPS) and limited ecological awareness among coastal families act as major constraints. From the perspective of fiqh al-bi’ah, practices such as burning and sea dumping constitute ḍarar (harm), as they generate social problems, degrade marine ecosystems, and threaten both biodiversity and human health. This study highlights the urgent need to strengthen environmental awareness among coastal Muslim families through religious-ethical frameworks to ensure ecological sustainability.

Abstract

This study evaluates the validity and reliability of ChatGPT in presenting Islamic legal knowledge on waqf, focusing on its usefulness for early learners relying on free digital tools without formal Islamic education. Conducted in Indonesia, the world’s largest Muslim-majority country, the research uses ChatGPT-3.5 in Indonesian. Data were analyzed qualitatively by comparing ChatGPT’s responses with Al-Mawsūʿah al-Fiqhiyyah al-Kuwaitiyyah, Buku Pintar Wakaf, and Buku Wakaf Kontemporer across four dimensions: basic concepts, pillars and conditions, nazir (trustee) aspects, and contemporary issues. Each was rated on a five-point scale. ChatGPT scored highest in basic concepts (validity 4.80, adequacy 4.60), followed by pillars and conditions (4.44; 4.06) and Nazir (4.23; 4.06). The lowest performance was in contemporary issues (3.57 for both). Findings indicate that ChatGPT provides an accurate foundational understanding but lacks sufficient legal depth and contextual precision for advanced study. Thus, it should serve as a supplementary learning aid, not a substitute for scholarly guidance, authoritative references, or structured Islamic education grounded in sanad.
